#TeamCG vs. #TeamReal thread, a thread of crow buffets and madmen dreams

Where did this stem from??? Was it a user from Gaf that started the thought of it being CG or what?? Lol.

Edit: Ah, it was 4Chan? hahaha.

I think a lot of the CG fervor was people desperate for this whole thing to mean more than everyone had figured out the day of the VGAs.

If they were going through all this effort to pretend MGS5 was not MGS5, there had to be some reason. Suddenly, the theory that Kojima had to be showing off new tech and that's why he was doing all of this and there was still mystery left to The Phantom Pain was really appealing to people.

People wanted the whole thing to be more than "Hey, you figured it out, but we're still not going to talk about it for a few months, so, uh..."

Meh. I chose TeamCG because I win either way.

If I chose TeamReal and I was right? Whoohoo, I guess.

Wrong? That's heavy, heavy shit to eat.

TeamCG and I'm wrong? Again, what can TeamReal do? No fanfare or anything.

Right? Glorious day.

Your post is too reasonable for this thread.

How the hell would that stiff looking mask animate like this?

It's not even the same fabric.
Kojima is taking trolling to a level #TeamReal doesn't have access to.

Being publicly shamed for being unable to recognise a real human being is some heavy, heavy shit to eat.

Obviously it wasn't really Kojima in a mask in the interview. Aside from the natural animation and eye movements, he could never pull off that Norweigian accent, nor speak English that fluently. It was just a tongue in cheek joke about Joakim being Kojima all along.
First we see Joakim Mogren on TV. Then the next time we see him, he pulls off a mask, Mission Impossible style, and reveals his true identity is KOJIMA OMG
That's it. That's all there is to it.

It seems to me that a lot of the TeamCGers wanted to believe that next gen consoles would be capable of graphics far beyond what PCs are capable of today which is the real reason that so many of them are disappointed that it wasn't a Fox Engine demo.

I could be wrong though...

This is probably what it was like when all those people who thought the earth was flat were proven wrong.

TeamCG and flat earthers together forever.

I humbly accept defeat but I really hope this isn't the end of those gifs.
I'd do it all again if I could.

The Joakim actor must be proud that almost half of the people subjected to looking at him didn't think he looks like a real enough human being.

Where's the original thread?

I want to pull out the post of people who said they would get banned if this turned out to be real (not CG).

Don't tell me the old thread is deleted from the annals of GAF history...

You must be a blast at parties....

They've got Frostbite and Battlefield 4 for that at least, so photorealism VERY CLOSE to that at the least is absolutely possible, it's just we don't believe that specific instance (or Kojima Productions) was getting that close at this point. And if you were the only reason to do the interview like that was if the in-game stuff was matching it and thus wasn't a big deal to create, and as the trailer DIDN'T... yeah.

The B4 demo looks amazing, and I'm assuming that was very high end PC, and still doesn't come close to the level of realism as the Joakim interview.

People tried their best to point out that if it was CG then Kojima and his crew has surpassed even the very best that Hollywood was capable of and still it was like TeamReal just didn't understand how incredible next gen was going to be or something.

Why is TeamReal "dream crushing" or whatever? CG isn't there yet. Maybe someday (soon) it will be. That's not crushing anything. Telling your child "the movie starts at 7:00, not yet" isn't crushing his dream.

If anything, the ones crushing the dream are TeamCG. When that day arrives, and CG looks just like reality - or even better - they're the ones, apparently, who'll nit-pick it to death, claiming "real dogs don't wag their tails that way!" and "nobody can move their back like that!".

I have no idea where you're pulling these generalizations from. I don't recall anybody saying games were going to look like that. I honestly thought that the image could be created but that has nothing to do with thinking that games would look like that.

What would have been the point of this if it wasn't a demo of what would be in the game? My statement doesn't apply to anyone who thought it was CG just because they believed GC of that caliber is possible but it does apply to those saying it was the Fox Engine in action.

CG of that caliber necessary to animate Joakim will probably be in high budget films soon I would imagine.

Well, my implication there was also that BF4 came very close to reality there, so while things aren't AS good as some people hoped it's still really amazing, especially as the BF4 demo seems to indicate the potential bar next gen could set for game graphics. That's kind of the way things tend to be it seems to me, we may not be able to match our fantasies, but we can still put out something that's very impressive in its own right.

Funny, I would think the opposite.

TeamReal - wrong - holy shit, CG really is now indistiguishable from reality! It fooled me!

TeamReal - right - at least I don't look at reality and think "fake!"

vs

Team CG - wrong - I don't even know what "real" looks like, so why should I be excited by good CG?

Team CG - right - since I've nit-picked this to death, CG is still not good enough

edit: or, to put it more succinctly: mistaking reality for CG is not the dream. Mistaking CG for reality is.

I voted team real, but I wanted to believe so bad. That would have been such an awesome way to "kick off" next gen, if you will.

Not really. The point was that tech could do it.

Nah. If TeamCG were right... well you can imagine the chaos and fanfare. TeamReal? You guys are hardly going above a weak "I told you so."

Hardly shaming. Especially when, as per your example, you guys would have been ecstatic were it CG. Right now you get to feel like the grown up who proves to the kids that Santa Claus isn't real. It only ever meant anything if he was. :p

That's because almost all of TeamCG is saying it was all about fun and believing. Any serious shaming would just make people complain about how mean TeamReal is.

Honestly believing it was CG and having it end up NOT being CG is worse than honestly believing it's real and having it be CG. In the first scenario, you literally nitpicked a video of a REAL DUDE until you believed it was fake, his teeth were clipping, he had reptile-eyes, etc. In the second, the CG was convincing it fooled you. No real shame there.
