Microsoft Studios' creative director has some choice words about always-online

I've favored 360 this generation. I will not buy an always online system. At least not at launch. Ive been at launch of every system since Sega. Nothing on PS4 seems too interesting to me and a always on 720 doesn't give me too much confidence. I'll be on PC for a long time it seems. I'm okay with that.

You and me both brotha. GabeN will eat well for the foreseeable future.

That's a pretty dumb way of thinking he got there.

Well, he can say whatever he wants, fuck him, I'm buying a PS4 especially because it won't have this shitty practice. So yeah, ''deal with it''.

Right, like I said in the last thread earlier today there's about a 30 million console gap between the total 360s sold number and the number of Live accounts. Even excluding the number of Live people you'd lose from this or some other bullshit, 30 million is a lot of people to leave in the dust.

I seriously cannot understand why people can't grasp this. Holy shit guys, it's not that hard.

It makes this whole dialogue even more ridiculous.

My ISP likes to do spot maintence work around midnight to 2am, it's random and sometimes only lasts 30 seconds or up to 5 minutes, it's something I can't avoid.

I work late in the day and get home at midnight, have a few hours to go online then sleep so I am fawked?

Naw, you're ok, buy a PS4.

I will not buy the next Xbox if this is the case. It's not even because I'm that concerned with an always online requirement, but I won't support it because somebody at Microsoft has already trumpeted irrelevant points and is supposedly convinced it's not a purely negative requirement. There is no benefit stemming from the actual *requirement* that a player be online. There are benefits of a player being online, but none from a player *having* to be online. If there were any sort of humility or acknowledgement about the negativity of the requirement I might be willing to accept it, but pretending the requirement itself is positive is just repulsive.

I hope the major media outlets pick up on this.

Twitter is public ground, you represent your company when you speak out like that.

Horrible horrible showing by Microsoft.

People are still going to buy the shit out of this console though. No doubts. Some folks would dream that all current MS-only players would switch to Sony but it's not going to happen.

As someone who was a big fan of Xbox this gen over PS4, it seems like I'll be switching over. Sony's gonna take it if Microsoft keeps this attitude up

Yeah I'm the same, I just really don't like the direction MS has been going with all of this and Sony has really been making all the right moves to catch my interest.

Honestly, if MS do go through with some of the stuff they've been taking about I hope it backfires. Just because I think it'd be better for all consumers if some of these ideas were to finally die.

It's like Microsoft is purposefully destroying their only profitable division. I can only imagine how dysfunctional the organization must be to commit to this strategy.

Windows, Office and Server are all profitable divisions. I think you mean the one portion of Entertainment and Devices that is profitable :)

This is also bad cause what happens to tourneys? What happens to LAN connection? No more system link?

What happens for us you mean? Nintendo is shitting the bed and MS is fucking crazy, that leaves Sony out there alone. Now if we only had to have one hardware manufacturer I'd want it to be Sony, because their shit is all class, but we need competition. Remember Sony at the beginning of this Gen? Imagine if they basically ran the industry. Nintendo, get your shit together. MS...dude. Duuuuuude. I can't believe they went full crazy lmao. E3 is going to be bananas!

edit: forgot about steambox. Get off your ass Gabe!

All this backlash means nothing if the console sells well. Gamers need to do their due diligence and spread the word.

Microsoft's worse enemy is themself, I can't wait to see the Durango's unveiling. Should be rather entertaining watching them try to sell a DRM console if the rumors are true.

Honestly, major media outlets will love it. Cool new tech! Always online! Social features! Cool online features! Xbox rules!

And this is why you don't talk about work on Twitter.

Doubly true if you're in a state of nerd rage and won't listen to any valid points that negate your stupid incoherent blathering. Congrats on making me even less excited for the next Xbox.

It's funny to me that Microsoft appears to be acting with Sony-PS2 levels of arrogance. Maybe they think going from last place to a solid neck-to-neck photo finish for second place gives them room to push their agenda through to us gullible gamers.

If this moronic series of twits ends up being preconfirmation of always online, I'll be very happy welcoming Sony back into my living room.

He just basically said, "A big fuck you to all gamers that live in rural areas." The fact that Microsoft employees are vehemently defending this fucking thing before it has even been announced speaks volumes. I've been saying all along that this thing is going to be an anti-consumer, focus tested nightmare.

Wow.

If you check my post history I've favored the 360 over the PS3, but MS is really starting to lose it. Such contempt for their potential customers. What a shame.

What I love most about the analogy, is that you use a vacuum cleaner for a few minutes. The chances of electricity cutting out is slim. It requires said electricity all the same to function.

A console does not require the internet to function (Single player games, movies etc) it is also used for a hell of a long time in comparison to a hoover. It's almost as bad as saying:

It isn't always windy in my area. A sail boat is no sale for me.

Wii U not looking so bad right now lol

Its possible hes just trolling but with such a serious issue you would think they wouldn't do something like that. Even if its not always online this isnt a good thing to do.

Goodbye next xbox system for me, at least for a while

Had amazing times and will continue with my 360 and will get the next xbox when it goes cheap. Lol dat 3rd curse

Only a banjo kazooie and perfect dark on launch would get me to buy one
