Dragon's Crown - E3 2013 trailer

The video in here I think demonstrates a good idea of how spells might work. There is a charge above the sorceress and wizards head and the max in the demo is 300 points (sort of like the arrows above the elf). Whenever they cast a spell, it subtracts its cost from your mp. But at anytime you can recharge your mp. It's nice because I was worried spells would sort of be like items, sort of how it was like in Shadow over Mystara and how you had a limited number of each spell until you pick up a scroll, but this way it makes it so the spellcasters never run out, since they can spend some time to charge up. The wizard also seems to get 10 mp back each time he smacks an enemy in melee range, so it might be the same for the sorceress too.

Mmm, looks absolutely beautiful. I can't even remember if I have it preordered, the biggest question is which platform. Almost seems a shame to limit it to the Vita's tiny screen.

So that's the cursor Jeff was talking about. Maybe it's a a carry over from the Vita version that gives you an onscreen guide for what you're pressing....until the cursor appeared during gameplay and I have no reason why it exists.

The cursor (controlled with the right analog) is part of the looting system. You use it to point areas for the thief NPC to explore or loot; it's also how you open secret passages. Indeed, on the Vita you can just touch the screen (although perhaps you can use the right analog as well?).
By the way, that bit about the thief is a LIFESAVER. Anyone who's played DDTOD/DDSOM knows what I mean; behold the deadliest enemy in Mystara, the silver coin. :p I love that the Archer picks up and reuses arrows straight away just by walking over them, though. EDIT: After seeign the gameplay videos, it seems that the thief doesn't loot stuff on the ground; you do pick money yourself, but just by walking over it. As long as my character doesn't derp and go "ooohh, shiny" in the middle of a fight, I'm good. It also seems like handheld items like bombs are picked up using the Triangle button, which I assume is not otherwise used for attacking. In any case, you can see footage of the thief unlocking a chest as directed by the cursor in one of the videos.

Other stuff that's kind of new for me from the trailers:
1) I didn't know the spellcasters could recharge Magic Points; that's pretty cool to keep them in the action, although it kind of diminishes the resource managements aspect of the D&D arcades. EDIT: After seeing the gameplay videos, it seems that "big", equippable spells are still limited by number, and this energy is used for lesser spells like the air fireball. All is good! :)
2) We've only seen the sabertooth mount yet, right? Regardless, it's freaking awesome.
3) I LOVE the Amazon's dive kick, it's so TMNT arcade-like. :)
4) Also love how she can plant her axe and bring the pain bare-fisted, and how all characters can also lose their weapons. For some reason it's something I love, and it reminds me a lot of Aliens vs Predator arcade. This game seems to be channeling the best aspects of the entire history of sidescrolling beat'em ups!

hoping for it to be:
2) without region lock!

videos are truly amazing

I just came to this thread asking about this, does anyone know if it's region locked or not? I don't expect it to happen, but after what Atlus did with P4A I want to make sure.

Would you feel proud if I told you that Dust: An Elysian Tail is, in my humble opinion, the only other game that holds a candle to VanillaWare's stuff?

I thought so too at first, but if you look at the other video's equip/character select screen, it seems the Wizard has three spell slots with specific spells and limited charges. Note also that whenever we've seen them casting these "large" spells, mostly during their character trailers, they pulled out a books with a letter. My intuition is that the quick spells they're using in these gameplay trailers, like the air fireball, use this energy, while the big spells are limited by quantity. And, you know what? I prefer it that way. If the only thing between you and the cast of your biggest spell is a few seconds of charge while the team protects you, they lose a lot of their punch.

Seconded, though Dust blows VanillaWare away when it comes to animation.

I noticed that the melee fighters were constantly losing their weapons and having to pick them up or just punch stuff, so it makes sense that the mages are limited by quantity for their big booms.

Is the original info regarding Demon's Souls-like bloodstains and reanimating other players as NPCs in your game out?

One of the gameplay videos from E3 showed the party finding a pile of bones they could take back to town to be revived. I never heard anything about bloodstains though (in the "see the last moments of another player's life" sense).

Aside from the above, said skeletons seemed to have attached messages in the stage demo that looked quite a bit like Dark Souls messages; perhaps when you die you can write/select a message. If that was the case, I'm guessing for the purposes of the demo, those messages would have been left by the dev team.

At the 1:00 mark in the E3 trailer, on the character creation screen, besides your name, color, and voice, you get Greeting Message, Selection Message, Resurrection Message, and Dying Message.

Edit:

Here's the youtube of the live stream SolidSnakex linked: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azZTXP_9JUw (starts at about 2:39:00)

At about 2:44:30+ they explain that the piles of bones, if resurrected in town, become NPCs you can bring with you to the dungeons (like, if your friends are offline or if you're playing solo). So, I think that confirms 898's question.

Anyone know? Don't we have an atlus rep here?

Atlus confirmed yesterday that it's region free.

During the PSblog demo they mentioned how deaths work. Once you run out of lives you're given the option to resurrect on the spot, but it costs gold that's based on your level. The other option is to go back to town, and if you do that you lose all the equipment that you found in the dungeon.

Oh yeah, nice catch. I guess those are not context-specific then.

Atlus confirmed yesterday that it's region free.

As an European and considering it has not yet received an Euro release date, that's great news. I'm also guessing Euro copies of the game can play in the same servers as US ones?

Sounds pretty good! One thing that's been worrying me a bit is how the game seems way too easy right now (particularly for someone expecting a D&D arcade level of challenge), but considering a) these are demo builds, b) they're doing like level 1 quets, and c) harder difficulty levels have been confirmed, I guess I shouldn't worry.

You can take inspiration from it, your game looks good too.

Is there any difference in gameplay/features between the Vita and PS3 versions? If not I'll probably get Vita.

Shame it's not cross buy, would have been too good to be true.

Good to know. I'm still burned by P4A.

Refresh my memory (and as my work net restricts some sites) but
1- What's the trail price for PS3?
2- Will it get a digital YOPO-like release? If so what will it b priced at?

Love that sorcerers running animation lol I can't wait for this it's getting close!! Also didn't know D&D was coming next week so things will be a little easier to wait. All the NPC and shops in that playthrough have me excited looks more populated than Muramasa was.

If I'm not mistaken, $50 for the PS3 version and $40 for the PSV version.

I do not like pre-orders but I made an exception for this game looks amazing.

Also while no cross buy is lame I can completely understand why with a small independent developer like this. They have been making this game for like 2 years so need to make as much money as back possible. It is a niche title and risky in our current market so I hope it sells well.

$45 for PS3 version at Amazon and you also get a 64 pages artbook if you preorder.

Holy shit, you can ride fire-breathing dinosaurs and fight a greater variety of enemies than "Guy with gun and guy with slightly different gun". This is the game I never knew I needed. Playing Elf, because I like firin' arrows (And wizards are lame). From what I can tell, Elf and Fighter function as virtual meat-shields to more heavy damage dealing classes with their heavy armor and dodge mechanics, ala the fighter in a Pathfinder party.

The only concern I have is that the screen looks like it might get a bit busy with more than two people.

My game of the show by far, but I'm a fan of Vanillaware and the D&D games from Capcom. There it's a rumor out there about the game having infinite/random dungeons in the game, I hope it's true.

I've kind of lost the enthusiasm I had towards this title.

So if anyone else wants to do the OT just quote this post in the OT claim topic I guess.

I no longer want to do it

Crossplay? Not sure what this means, but I've heard "no" repeated as the answer to it.
Only local or online too? Yes, both.
Do you get both? No, but your save transfers between them.
