The SNAFU Show - 13 (END)

This series had a pretty good cast and a rather interesting take on things, but I'm a bit annoyed at how none of the plot threads lead anywhere. Or maybe they did but it just went over my head. 6/10

Wow, really? I mean... I guess I can't fathom how you could respond that way to the episode or the series, but if that's how you feel...
I am glad Aku no Hana exists. I wish it was better though. Watching it felt like it lacked appropriate curation and talent. As much as I came to accept the visual style of the show it never cast off the intensely awkward freeze frame moments that felt like time was being filled. The slow aimlessness and repeated meaningless CG backgrounds is one thing, but going out on a lengthy flashback is gross, and the
flash forward
was everything I hate about the episode previews after the OP cranked up all the way. This show could have been something that could be pointed to and recommended to all sorts of people, but an ending like this kills that opportunity. For the emotional highs the series initially had it just puttered out at the end as real progress stopped.

I don't even know what else to say at this point. It's just too awesome.

Rossiu man, I never thought I could actually like this character. He went from being my most hated character in this show to one of my most liked. He sure showed a lot more remorse for his actions than Lelouch did in Code Geass. I mean talk about a deep conversation he had with the priest down there.

All right. The stage is set. It's time for the final battle!

Is this Erika?

Methinks cajunator should stop requesting Erika art and go see the real Erika by watching some GODDAMN HEARTCATCH!

I kind of want to work my way to Heartcatch. To "earn it" so to speak by watching the other series first. That means toughing it through Max fart and watching them all up to that one.

cajun doesn't like Umakoshi art
U6g9FwY.jpg

Thats not why. I dont HATE Umakoshi art its just not my favorite.

So does Steins; Gate get good? What episode? I'm 3 in and am barely feeling it. My wife and I decided to bail if it doesn't get good by episode 8, is that fair? Also the character archetypes are quite possibly the most annoying I've ever experienced

Yes it does, but around episode 9-10. It takes a while to get rolling, but once it does, oh my god what a ride! The ending is pretty great and the omake episode afterwards is really brilliant too. This show left a really lasting impression on me.

All I take from this is if you buy BL, you are going to die and turn into a dachshund.

Actually I found it somewhat charming in spite the spastic humor. Maybe I'll get lucky and this will get better as it goes along.

It's appropriate to turn into a wiener I suppose.

I came for sadistic Marina inoue and I was satisfied. Other than that its was average, oh and DFC.

I don't know if it's because I read the manga, but last part of the finale was just amazing to me. lol
I can understand that it doesn't provide any narrative closure, but it also provides a climax of sorts, by suggesting that there journey to the place beyond the hill isn't over.

Of course, it'd be much easier if the series was just 26 episodes, but that just seems to be an impossibility these days.

Photo Kano 13

Not even mad they pulled the non-related card.

Photo Kano has already been such a let down after it proved they could not adapt six girls routes all into single episodes for each. Niimi's part was the only one that felt like they developed some connection leading to the confession, making it the one I would actually say was good. Still think this show should have just followed that two episode format, even if they had to cut out some of the girls to do so.

Most disappointing show of the season for me.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann - 24

Holy Shit. Nooooooo!

Dammit anime! Why must you kill off a bunch of the likable characters right near the end? WHY?!?

And that cliffhanger. That damn cliffhanger man. This show man, this show.

Kino's Journey 4

While Kino took a backseat to the social commentary in the previous episode, this one was all about her. I never really imagined her
origin story
to end up like this.
Born into a terrible dystopia where people are essentially lobotomized and brainwashed into serving whatever purpose society demands. A cog in a machine. The country has even got its own thought-police milling about. "Disposing" of citizens shows how friendship and family mean nothing, and not a trace of any sort of morality can be found on the "adults." If anything, these people aren't human, so I wonder how they fit in with the narrative's central theme. Could you really make the argument that it was human nature that lead to the creation of non-humans? I can't really say, but I found the imagery of the bird in flight to be a great catalyst in Kino's relationship with Hermes. The way the two of them started off without names and then donned some which belonged to a previous traveling duo almost suggests that they represent more than individuals, but rather something constant/universal. Maybe even the facet of human nature I've been searching for.

I feel this is something that could be done within the context of the world. The time skips both ways detach me from the experience and moment to highlight authorial ineptitude of a lousy director who can't do what needs to be done within the allotted time on an episode by episode basis and over the span of the series as a whole. So much more could have been done with thirteen episodes that when the conclusion amounts to little more than an allusion more will come the show just won't leave a very big impression on me.

Kasuga
reading the diary and seeing his reaction
was all the satisfaction I needed for the finale. It was enough closure for me without even seeing the second half of the episode yet. I can see why someone wouldn't like how a good chunk of the episode is
a flashback and an extended preview.
But from the chase and on, it felt like a cathartic release and a good note to end on.

Maybe the excitement of what has happened and what could unfold with that tease got to me though.

See, this is why I wasnt impressed with Hyouka. It has themes about human tendencies and all that shit but Kino's journey just takes all that and knocks it out the park while also being highly entertaining. One of the best animes ever made. That episode in particular is probably one of my favorites, though its so hard to choose one!
Things in this show tend to recur frequently and everything fits together like pieces in a puzzle. I could watch this show forever, but seeing you experiencing it unspoiled for the first time makes me kinda jealous.

You will not be disappointed with Wolf Children I promise you.

Get off the fence and put it on top of the list. Wolf Children is more than worth it.

Get the hell off that fence dude. Wolf Children is the bee's knees.

As others have said, if you like The Girl Who Leapt Through Time you need to see Wolf Children as soon as possible.

Ill take your words for it but it just seems really...too cutesy for my tastes. I'm fine with cute shows but it just looks, I guess, a little too cute for me?

Aku no Hana 12 & 13 [END]

Sleeper hit of the season. Not sure where I'll rank it in AOTY but I'd be willing to bat for it to be the #1 pick. This show already gave you an uncomfortable feeling with the drama between Kasuga, Nakamura, and Saeki, but if what was teased in this episode really did happen in the manga.. this was nothing! :lol

Here's hoping a second season comes our way.

In a press conference, Gundam Build Fighters was just announced. TV show starting in October. Clearly aimed at the kid market. Looks like Gundam model fighting is the centerpiece of the show.

Gundamic Layer.

If Bandai were smart they'd turn this into a Skylanders-esque game.

Dog & Scissors 1

Makes a good first impression. The banter is okay with the comedy being a little hit and miss. I could see myself watching more of this. Natsuno sort of looks like Reika from Papa Kiki (face and not body).

I bet there is going to be a lot of flat chested jokes throughout the show

Is a children focused gundam a common thing? I'm not a huge gundam guy but I remember that really awkward cgi children's gundam show that was on toonami a while back

Gargantia on the Veranda end

Some things happened and it was cool. Some were cliche, some were not so cliche. The end.

Was this made with another season in mind even if nothing is currently announced? It really feels like there's a billion more things that need to be said. The Hideauze/Whalesquid plotline was kind of set up to be more important toward the endgame, but it ended up being about a relatively contained skirmish that would normally be on par with a middle arc climax. I understand that this tried to subvert the epic, escalating space mech battle by keeping the scale low, but it still teased something way bigger than what happened, even when looking beyond the technobabble intro.

Anyway, it was a good show. Not great.

Huh? I don't recall that. Which Gundam series was it?

I don't remember the name. It had short squaty human sized cgi sentient gundams interacting with cgi humans. The villains were like turning the planet into concrete. You had like three main hero gundams.

I that's all I really remember.

Couldn't be EVOLVE, which is the only CG one I can recall. I think parts of Unicorn were CG, but not a lot.

Sounds like an SD Gundam show to me.
