Anyone remember chasing these dogs

?

It was amazing.

Yep...I remember the first one I caught was Raikou and I used a fast ball to nab him. I'm not sure, but I think HeartGold and SoulSilver made them harder to catch. I mean they were hard to catch before, but I didn't remember them being as difficult. Although, funnily enough, I caught Ho-Oh in HeartGold with a Pokeball.

I don't remember the strategy, but I recall having a perfect strategy that I use to amaze my friends with because it always worked 100% of the time. It was a way to catch Lugia in Gold 100% of the time that is. All I remember is using the Heavy Ball because Lugia's weight.

Sushi Go Round is my LIFE. Lickitung is such an awesome Pokemon, and sushi is my favorite food. lol

Sushi-Go-Round is the most memorable minigame of all time. Seriously, every time I think of Pokemon Stadium, I just think of that minigame.

Sadly I never had sushi in real life

LOL what?! I participated in one of those when I was extremely novice at the cards and barely knew what I was doing. What I do remember is that you had to battle like 30-50 (depending on how good you did the number changed from 30-50) just to CHALLENGE the gym leader. I still have my League book as well.

Looks like my hardwork as a babby was all for naught.

Loved this game. Only Pokémon "proper", Mario Tennis and the Zelda games challenged it for domination in my GBC slot.

To this day, I'll still never understand why we never got the GBC sequel that Japan got, nor any more GBA/DS/3DS adaptations.

I loved playing the TCG, but as TCGs tend to be, it got way too expensive to keep up with after awhile. Thus why I was always hoping for more portable adaptations...

I've always wanted badges in real life as a kid. I remember just printing them from the Pokemon official site around '99. Good ol times

I have no idea either. Luckily I've been playing the Japanese only sequel since it's fully translated now but it still hurts that they didn't keep it going. I'd honestly say it rivals even the mainline titles at times. It's insanely polished and slick. Nice pick up and play game as well, and being able to make decks on the fly was nice. Not even the recent Yu-Gi-Oh! games are even a 10th of how fast it is when you set Message Speed to 5.

I played the original game so much, I didn't even need the translation for the sequel for years. :lol

Anyway, I'll still continue to hope that maybe one day, TPC will consider revisiting the prospect. I mean, if even the YGO adaptations are still relatively profitable and don't cut into card sales that much, I'd like to think that a new Poké-card adaptation would only be that much better for 3DS and/or Wii U.

And if that were to happen, maybe we'd finally get a modern day rendition of THIS godly theme:

Hahaha, yeah both are great games. That does remind me that that new Yu-Gi-Oh! game is coming out sometime for 3DS...

Coincidence, but I ran into this Ronald theme earlier today you might like. I absolutely love the TCG OST. Some of my favorite 8bit tracks of all time. I also really liked Ronald's character design, felt it was a unique appearance for a rival character. Although his actual personality is somewhat similar to Gary Oak.

Anyhow, here's the song.

I've never gotten into the physical card games but I remember enjoying Pokemon TCG for GBC as a kid. I forgot how far I've gotten, I've probably beaten 2 "bosses" or whatever they're called.

I wonder if I should track down a copy. Hopefully it's not too much as complete in box (haha unlikely...). How are the save batteries in those games? Are they as prune to losing saves as the main titles?

I love Pokémon TCG's music a lot (TCG2 being my favourite of the two). The comments lead me to a great cover of Ronald's theme. Also I'll link my favourite from TCG2 for good measure!

Duel Vs. Fortress Leader

The TCG's soundtrack is fucking bizarre in how good it is. They managed to create these songs that are completely suitable for something as lengthy as a game of the Pokemon TCG, yet are still incredibly catchy and have a great energy to them.

The composer deserves a medal or something.

I know I mentioned this earlier, but I feel it definitely needs some recognition.

Here's a video of me playing the Pokemon Red Colour patch via an emulator:

The IPS patch can be found at the link in the description. It's amazing. I've flashed it to an actual GBC cart, and it's a joy to play on the console.

Wow. This is kind of awesome. They even use the GSC graphics for the most part, even in battle!

it feels weird with the lack of EXP bar when the bar itself half exists in the UI lol

Yeah, all the opponent and monster graphics have been replaced with the Gen 2 ones, but there is a patch on the page to keep the original GFX too.

I've played through the whole thing on my GBC, and every single location is coloured perfectly. It literally makes the game seem ten years younger.

Want to play Gen 1, but feel it's too dated? Want the genuine experience (not the Leaf Green remake)? Then this patch is for you.

I could probably nostalgia about Pokémon for days. I still have most everything from back then, including my truckload of cards.

A couple years back, we were cleaning out the garage and I found a still-wrapped, unopened Pokémon Silver box (I think my mom bought me an extra copy or something by mistake when Crystal came out). Still waiting for when I move out of my parent's house to sell it off.

Really wish they would rerelease these games on the virtual console. They have multiplayer support already for Game Gear games on the 3DS, so it can't be that hard.

The only classic Pokémon game I own wish a working battery is Pokémon Yellow. I'm probably going to replay it once I finish X/Y.

I still have my original copies of Blue and Gold. Blue does not want to work anymore, it freezes at Oak's introduction before a single letter appears in the dialog box.

Gold still works, but the timer part of the save battery constantly resets, but the save works. Only other major issue is booting up the game, takes me too many tries.

I bought a complete in box copy of Blue Version a few months ago. It works perfectly, the save worlds and the game boots up with no hassle and the cartridge is very clean. It feels brand new.

Great thread here. I remember going to the trading card league too. Rarely actually played the game though, most just gathered there for trades, which you would get points for. I think it was just common promos you got in exchange for them, but still, free cards! Looking at the old art work is awesome too, definitely should of stuck to that style. I still have lots of the cards stashed away, some completed sets and binders. Might add some pictures tomorrow.

Playing through Pokemon Red was the first time I really got into a game, to the point of being hooked and continuing to level up my pokemon even after the elite four. I caught Missingno out of pure curiosity, the equivalent of pushing the red button. It messed up my hall of fame, but that was it. Pokemon Yellow was one of the most fun, just because it took on aspects of the actual anime show. I think it was the only one to do that, been a while since I played a game in the series, so could be wrong. The old series will always hold a special place to me.

This thread makes me happy.

Fun story: Growing up, I had this friend who went with his parents on business trips to Japan. He returns to America with a JPN copy of Pokemon Gold long before the game came out here.

I was so stoked because I thought it was possible to trade all the *new* Pokemon into my U.S Red. I would have PKMN no one else would have! I bragged about this prospect to everyone I knew.

So I go over to the guy's house on a Saturday, we boot up our games and... nothing. You can't trade new Pokemon to Red. I was crushed. Come Monday, I was so embarrassed about how I acted to everyone. No one wanted to play PKMN with me for weeks after that.

Also: since my friend and I couldn't read Japanese, we made up names for all the Gold PKMN in his possession. We dubbed Sentret "Squirrely Dude."

My fondest memory of Pokemon as a kid was back at school when I was ten. I was the only kid in the school with an Action Replay cheat cartridge. What did that mean?

I HAD MEW.

So what did I do? I sold mew to people at £5 each. Never told them my secret. I made enough to purchase GoldenEye 007 and Mario Kart 64.

So anyone else love the unown?

Anyone?

Probably one of my favourite parts of crystal. As an 8 year old it added so much to the mysticism aspect of the game.

I remember playing Japanese Silver on my tenth birthday and I had no real idea what I was doing, I flailed through it hard, I got stuck on the Sudowoodo tree part for months, I never finished it either.

Batteries in games aren't that hard to replace.
A bit trickier in Gameboy games than stuff like NES and SNES, since there isn't all the extra space for a holder on wires or such, but still.

Some GBC/GB games actually have the battery in a holder. Just take it out and shove a new one in.

It was extremely rare though.

This was the best past time on field trips; swapping Lunchables Pokemon "cards."

My class got into soooo much trouble with these. We paid we more attention to the cards than the stuff at the Science Center. And you know what? I don't regret it. Fond, fond memory.
