These are looking good.
Caravan has some interesting concept arts, like this one:

Some new Pixel Piracy info and screenshots:

Loot system:
Now you can pick up loot from fallen enemies and opened treasure chests, and it all does something different. Upgradeable weapons are in, but more on that in the progression system post.
You can now get new weapons, armor, and items that offer certain benefits and stat upgrades. We plan on shoehorning in as much loot as possible to make this game cater to that Diablo itch we all have deep down inside.

Progression System:
Your pirates now have different stats that can be levelled up through use of that pirate, and you now hire each class seperately. All of them can enter combat, but only a cook will cook, a fisherman will fish, a sailor will mop the deck of poo, etc.
Besides that there's WEAPON progression, where you will get different items to advance the skills and stats of certain weapons. For now it's limited to the Grindstone item, but we eventually want you to be able to imbue your awesome spear of awesomeness with so much awesome that your mind will come out of your face and slap you, no joke...

Morale system:
Individual pirates have Morale now, they WILL get upset, moody and straight up not work for your captain if you don't pay them, give them time off, or reprimand them occasionally. Hope you have fun with a mutiny while an enemy boards you, nothing like fighting enemies on TWO fronts to keep a captain on his toes!

67.png

Salary Payment:
As stated before your pirates morale goes down, but you can counteract it for a time by PAYING them! Who would have thought that paying your employees would keep them from gouging your eyes out in your sleep, but I digress..

Enemy Ships.
We are scripting in MANY new enemy ships for you to encounter, and want the final tally to be absurdly high when the final game comes out. This way you'll have to think about each encounter, where and how to attack, and treat each with a seperate strategy, have fun!

77.png

Cannon Combat:
Yeah, nuff said, Cannon's work perfectly now, and will blow the enemy ship sky high, but do you WANT to sink it before taking that precious cargo or treasure?

Can we get some actual impressions on this from anyone? I've always been intrigued by the game, but at the same time, when I watch videos and stuff... it doesn't look like there's much of a game there.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...

You can download the alpha here. Not much of a game there yet or at least an interesting one. To be fair that could be because I couldn't figure out half the shit it said I could do so maybe you will have better luck.

Ah cool thanks, didnt see the dl link anywhere.

Damn, Risk of Rain is hard. I loved the demo and this full game takes everything the demo promised and turns it up to eleven. Tons of new enemies and stacking items and new areas. I just finished my first attempt, made it to the second area, got swamped by like 40 enemies.

And like Fancy Skulls, the enemies are just weird and you can't tell what they'll do before they attack.

Fantastic

Risk of Rain is a must buy, I can feel my hand inching towards the button with every passing second of that trailer.
There is almost enough interest from the posts above yours to do a 4-pack. How can you pass on that value?! It is one of my favorite games of the year, I just hope they add in some additional difficulty with the mutators.

Wow @ Risk of Rain. That game looks nuts! I grabbed Zomboid and tried to fire it up on Steam last night but it wouldn't start. I spent zero minutes attempting to troubleshoot so I'm not too worried, though.

Yeah I might want to get one together if I don't just outright buy it

Did you guys see this about Risk of Rain?
The current plan is that both the $10 or $25 tier will recieve both a Steam Key AND a Humble download by November 8th. However, we will begin selling only Steam Keys on our website, effective in-a-few-days. We will peruse other options for those who want DRM-free copies post-launch.
So if you want DRM-free copies, you should act fast

I'd be down to be in a 4 pack of Risk of Rain, PM or post here with your details.

You wanna host? In any case, we should get a list goin for sure:

1.) CheesecakeRecipe
2.) Fappenmeister
3.)
4.)

That's strange, I wonder why they'd abandon the DRM free edition? Doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to maintain both builds.

I finally got around to playing The Swapper.
Pretty amazing game, too bad it got overlooked. I don't quite get how that happened, it got great reviews and lots of coverage, yet the OT is 5 pages.

I would say it got overlooked. It may have not gotten a lot of attention on GAF, but I know it got a lot of reviews and positive impressions online

I know the people who made Serendipity and can probably get in touch with those who made Aku, in case anyone has questions or messages or whatever.

Also, after some complaints, the FrenchCows initiative is slowly getting better, and there is a chance that it actually becomes really interesting in a couple of months; I'll keep you all posted :)

Saw a friend play the Stanley parable it's an awesome game. Even the demo kept me playing for about an hour, so I might be buying that. And also audio surf 2 must be in my collection.

You should invite them here. The more the merrier, and it's always easier to keep track of interesting, but less popular games, this way.

Risk of Rain has potential but there are a few things that make it unenjoyable.

Bad net-code and controls being the top ones. Allies jump and bounce around and it looks awful, and there are just too many buttons. Forcing the players to kill remaining enemies at the end of a level is quite annoying, that definitely should be optional. Jump distance is frustrating, there are so many ledges that look like they were designed to to be jumped to but turns out your character can't. I guess it's just the default class? I haven't had a chance to unlock the other classes (which seems like it takes quite a bit to unlock them?)

I also strongly dislike how enemies can spawn right on top of you. The constant re-spawning is fine, but I was on a tiny ledge fighting an enemy and suddenly 6 or 7 more enemies spawn right on top of the tiny ledge at the same time. It's just really terrible.

The level generator isn't that great either. Most levels are just a series of platforms hanging in the air. I guess it's functional and that's what matters, but aside from different tile-sets each levels seems to play the same and have similar layouts.

edit: oops apparently it is out of beta? if this version is the official release than I'm really disappointed. that netcode is way too terrible to be in a finished 1.0 product.
Graphics, effects, sounds, art style, and all that stuff are top notch though. All the power ups are fun and when I got past the controls the combat is fairly fun as well. Just the other things really bring it down, I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone in it's current state. With some more polish and improved netcode it'd be an easy choice though, but I suppose that's what betas are for?

Confederate Express tech demo is up. You can play it/download it here

Edit: demo isn't much. Just you on a rooftop, firing at zombies. Shows off the controls, graphics, and you pause the game to queue commands.

About Risk of Rain, I feel like if you staying still, you're going to die. So if you're getting swarmed, you're not moving enough. Well, you're going to get swarmed anyway, but then the best choice to get the hell out of there, run away.

And I do wish the levels were more varied and diverse in design. As alllen said, there is an over-prevalence for ledges and platforms, but I find the actual combat fun enough that I don't really mind and actual styles and aesthetics are nice and varied

I love how each character feels so different. I only have the Commando and Enforcer, but each feels so different. The Commando, you want to fight in open areas, keep your distance. With the Enforcer, you want to fight in areas where you can keep your back covered, strategically use your shield bash to gain some breathing room, and stun enemies to keep them in front of your shield.

I also think the "kill all remaining enemies" should be optional. And another thing, always spend all your money before going through the teleporter, because it resets to zero when you go to the next level.

I don't know how good this is, but this card game is going to be crowdfunded.

I actually played the Faëria alpha/beta demo a while back. It's sort of like a hex based Culdcept. It was enjoyable and it had a pretty slick interface. My only worry was the business model, and it sounds like they ditched any plans of F2P microtransactions. I didn't really get too deep into at the time, because my experience with almost every F2P game is, "Boy, this would be great if it wasn't for all the grinding to incentivize microtransactions. Oh well." So I might check it out again.

Thanks for making that Pioneers thread, MB. Actually downloaded it months ago, but never played it. Looks phenomenal.

I normally don't quote myself, but I didn't get any reaction to this:

Btw I think the Beta offer for Dog Sled Saga has expired. Any impressions? Maybe it would be better suited for the December thread.[referring to the OP here]

Their website says "Planned for delivery in December 2013".

What is Pioneers about? Well it's a turn based exploration game with some RPG elements where you lead a party of pioneers each with different professions, skills and attributes. You start out in a town where you first have to assemble your party from the tavern, plan out and buy equipment you need from the supply store and get yourself a ship. Or two. Then by conversing with different people you get quests, which may be to follow the steps of the previous explorers that never came back and find out what happened, find treasures, compose an accurate map, find contact with unknown native tribes and 'export' religion or simply be the first to disover a piece of the world.
Also dysentery, because what's a good wilderness survival game with dysentery? There's a build to download on the site and the game's on TIGForums and Greenlight Concepts

Made a thread too

April thread.. or something. Badass somewhat being late to the party ;)

Not sure how long you've played, but it has horrent UI issues which made the game really hard to play once it became a bit deeper. Might try again to see whether they improved it. It also had some game progression issues, meaning that it was kinda hard to see the incentive to keep exploring sometimes because you rarely got the impression that you will see something interesting soon. It was a bit weird.

This were my impressions back in the thread:

Some more Pioneers impressions. Surprisingly deep survival game with control issues. The game seems to be really worth a try. You basically start in a village where you can buy equipment and get quests to explore more of the world and find valuable plants etc. There are tons of possibilities for how to add to this kind of game. Really promising. Pioneers seems really good with 2 semi-big flaws. Quick gif of the preparation screen:

1. The UI is horribly inconsistent. Actions sometimes are done with left click, sometimes with right click. Closing windows is X sometimes, sometimes Escape.

2. Probably also due to the UI, the gameplay seems a bit slow. It takes very long to navigate around the actual islands and do the actions. Here is some Island landing and fight preparations + bear fight:
