All this AOTY talk.

My list is currently looking something like this:

Eccentric Family
Kyousougiga
Little Witch Academia
Gargantia
Wolf Children
Blue Exorcist Movie
Yamato 2199
Kill la Kill
Yozakura Quartet
Aku no Hana

(not ordered yet)

Bunch of honorable mentions like Silver Spoon and Valvrave. When's the thread going up again? (sorry if I missed it)

Man, AOTY talk is tearing us apart like a Giant Bomb thread. We need to get it together, stay the course and unite behind a common cause e.g. war with Toonami-GAF, those twisted folk who dare to watch and enjoy anime. Those slimy dastards.

If everyone in the thread put Rozen in even the 7th or 8th place on their list, it would have a fair shot of scratching the top ten. Points add up if enough people vote. See: stuff like From the New World and Humanity Has Declined from last year. No one had them as their AotYs, but enough people at least listed them somewhere that they ultimately racked up more points than even SAO and Chooney Boo Boo.

There's a 100% chance of Meganebu, Samurai Flamenco, Blast of Tempest and Hakkenden being in your top ten, so you tell us!

Huh? What did I say? Did I screw up again? :(
The lack of Silver Spoon talk hurts me.

Don't let it bother you too much. While some noteworthy series make it into the list every year, 70% of the list are assembled by trolls. The secret no one wants to admit is the god honest truth is that the real Top 10 list starts at #11.

EDIT: I'm actually surprised that Aku no Hana is being mentioned by so many posters. It was a matter of keeping my eye-sight or continue watching. I just couldn't... there's just so much that vision had to offer.

rozen maidens totes gonna be on my top 10 somewhere. having read silver spoon makes it kinda hard to vote for that though

Does this mean it's justifiable to skip some of the auditions?

I agree. Good show but wasn't a very memorable one.

I feel like everything that had to do with the actual Maidens was uninteresting.

...except for Kanaria. She was awesome.

I can understand why people feel this way, and while I didn't find the Rozen Maiden plot uninteresting I do agree that it was less interesting than Jun's personal story. But for me, the direction was strong enough throughout to make it a memorable show. Some of the best storyboards and sound direction of the year.

Anime of forever. Actually, the whole -gatari series is the series of forever.
At least up to this point since I haven't read the novels.

I have no idea if the snake around the middle schoolers arm was the same variety of apparation as Nadeko's, but I know that she mentioned Mayoi because she has no idea that Mayoi is dead (since she's been a God and forgotten so much). All she knows is that Araragi cared about her, which makes her a prime target.

What if he is the guy that caused the Nadeko stuff in Bake, as Kaiki hinted? I remember something along the lines "he was jealous of Nadeko so he used the snake apparition against Nadeko". Maybe that snake is still with him.

Should probably put the AOTY thread up ASAP, so everyone doesn't just post their lists in here.
It might be nice to have the vote earlier this year. The late vote last year let the Winter season affect things, especially for Jojo. Voting for Jojo or FTNW feels like I'm voting twice for the same thing now.

Hopefully it'll work out that way. Rozen Maiden will be in my top 3, so I'll do my part.

Good point! It's not like stock footage for a certain other franchise.

I hope there will be a list.

I'm asking because I have a feeling that Summer Wars might get votes from Toonami.
and i'd be willing to rally honestly.

Don't ask for too much precure goods , toei will provide even more stuff starting next season after all.

Ps: lol the AOTY talk is making the thread go faster than usual.

I will ask for the moon if I have to, and I do that on a daily basis.

EDIT: @Narag: I see. Thanks!

Silver Spoon is a really solid and enjoyable show but there's been so many outstanding title's this year (Aku no Hana, Wolf's Children, Blue Exorcist Movie, Yozakura Quartet etc) it's hard to get a place in a top 10 list on the basis of mere competence.

Summer Wars is like a billion years ago. I do believe there'll be a list to clear stuff up so there's no doubt.

For the record any anime that produces ninjas riding a bunny riding a squid, it can't be all bad right?

Overall blatant fan service, but a not an awful story, ok soundtrack and surprisingly great visuals (fan service notwithstanding). Kind of weird that the prophesized good and evil ninjas really didn't get a major focus.

Anyway, not the worst I've watched and only 12 episodes. So not bad.

Also Gravity.

I just don't get how someone goes from writing Toradora, which borders on the absurdity of jdrama but remains grounded, to the ghost Banri stuff we've gotten in Golden Time. :(

Lol this reminds me of a tweet I saw last night.

If only the last few episodes weren't so bad.

In spite of how stupendous most of Rozen was, I still wavered on including it in my top ten because of what a convoluted inelegant mess the resolution was. Even the best direction simply couldn't save the episodes that took place
in the space between timelines.
, which were simply sloppy with capricious escalations and twists that just sort of meandered nowhere until it was time for the plot to end.

Still, I still loved everything else so much that it's all forgivable to me and deserves top ten recognition for its stellar direction and mature depiction of loneliness and social isolation. Hatakeyama Mamoru is a name that every anime fan should know. It'll be in the bottom half of my top ten, but it's definitely going to be there.

It's a good thing there are plenty of series taking a break this week and some others already ended, since between Christmas, spending time with family and playing A Link Between Worlds, I've been getting rather behind on anime over the past few days. Time to catch up on a few!

Hunter x Hunter 110

Well, I said last episode was the calm before the storm, but that seems to have continued into this episode. Not that there's anything remotely calm about the King's attitude here. Dude is preeeeeeeetty unstable.

No chance of the calm before the storm continuing another episode though, since this one cut off literally seconds before the main event is due to begin. All hell is about to break loose, and it will be delicious.

I liked Rozen Maiden's ending - it's an open end where the character's growth is enough to leave it momentum for wherever it may go. I was happy, despite my complaints about the weird convolution of the laplace story, to see him be set on that path again.

I think Hatakeyama did just about the best he could with a more-or-less faithful adaptation of questionable source material. The fantasy world material kind of meandered (though much less than it did in the manga!) and was certainly unnecessarily convoluted, but I did find the presentation of Kirakishou pretty compelling, and that in particular was what kept my attention throughout that whole sequence.

The World God Only Knows - 09-11

Wow was Shiori adorable! I knew a girl in school a little like her. Always quiet, loved the library. Didn't work there, but the comparison is there.

Much less Elsie in these episode, minus the initial Fire Truck bit which was pretty random and cute.

There was so much blushing! Loved her inner monologue. Was a good message though, Was a satisfying ending to her sequence. I do hope we see more of her going forward.

Look like Ep 12 is it for S1. Gonna watch that next. ^_^

I remember discussing this with you in the OT. I still maintain that I would have appreciated it (despite it not being realistic) if they just wrote an entirely original version of Rozen Maiden 2013 and skipped all the bullshit with young Jun. It would have been an exceedingly better series for it.

A version which severely departed from the manga could have made for a stronger series, depending on where they went with it, but it's also something the producers would never have approved.

Makes sense I guess. I'm trying to figure out how Gaen
can make a Talisman that turns something into a God. I know we'll probably never get this type of explanation, but I'd love to know where Gaen/Oshino/Kaiki/etc got their skills. I feel like not having seen Kanbaru's arc is confusing us now.

Monogatari S2 - 26

Glorious , Glorious ending even when you have already read this arc , this episode was magnificent if you ignore the glorious liberties Shaft have taken with the graphics.

If you haven't picked by now :( contain zero spoilers for future events )
Kaiki was pretty much right on everything ... Gaen gave money so that kaiki could continue ( because at the time he didn't have any money ) , senjougahara did put the letter in kaiki room so in that sense , kaiki didn't lie to araragi when they met. As for oshino ougi , well she is the final boss/mastermind . She manipulated nadeko ( into becoming a god ) , she is also responsible for what happenned at the end of this episode. After all kaiki spend 2+ months in that town and wasn't noticed and he was attacked out of town by someone manipulated by ougi ... best guess is a punishment for ruining her plans.

Now within those last 6 episodes , you'll have a hard time guessing what was a lie and what wasn't .

I also hope you guy enjoyed mayoi and nadeko during this season because ... well you'll never see them again :(

Overall monogatari was genius entertainment.
Congratulation nisio.Damn you shaft! you'd better bring kizu one day !
