First time watching the dub of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, it's pretty good. Emily Hirst isn't as good as Riisa Naka, of course, but she does a fine job.

White Album 2 13

Well. It was definitely a realistic portrayal of love and loss. Touma started out as best girl, became annoying a bit past the halfway point and quickly scaled back up to best girl in the last 3 or so episodes. Damn. Don't know if this will have a second season but I really do hope it is. Especially since Haruki isn't AS big of a piece of shit as the guy in the first WA. Also because Touma deserves a happier ending.

Renge is the best.

I love that she's pokerfaced 24/7 despite clearly still being, well, a kid

Man, AOTY talk is tearing us apart like a Giant Bomb thread. We need to get it together, stay the course and unite behind a common cause e.g. war with Toonami-GAF, those twisted folk who dare to watch and enjoy anime. Those slimy dastards.
I have been a ToonamiGAF supporter since the beginning, but it's hard sometimes... Kick-Heart hate most notably. =(

Yuasa is directing an 11-episode show that will air in the spring.
Ah! Thank you for reminding me. Still haven't seen Kaiba though. Feel free to berate me.

Have you seen the porn version: The Girl Who Slept With Tim? I hear Jenna Jamison gave a better performance than Emilly Hirst.

How do they determine the winner for these? What do those meters measure?

Also way to artificially inflate the number of participants so that Otome can be with them during the Christmas thing. I wonder if their classmates ever get pissed at the protagonists for always winning the really good jobs. Especially since Ichigo and Aoi are newbies.

Well lets think of it like a SoL anime. The unimportant stuff (everyone else's auditions) happens between the episodes!

I don't have to,haha. It seems a few regulars here already know about your like for coloured eyelashes and you yourself gave away your love of midriff in the thread a few times before as well.

Not just that episode of Gargantia but you've made reference to liking Kasumi/Misty from the Pokémon anime's outfit for example. When Regulus was still posting I believe you both mentioned how you liked those kind of outfits as well.

Now that my sick sick self is out in the open it's time for you to dump the list of everyone else's secret fetishes you've no doubt been fastidiously compiling in secret.

So basically Gamilan is Godom?

It depends entirely on how much they resent people who obey their parents.

Okay. I actually don't have a PS3 (yet) but I do have a PSP so maybe I'll take more of a look at them. Thanks for the information. :)

I've played Z2-1 on PSP and really loved it. Got me to watch or start watching series I hadn't seen before, such as Votoms. I still need to play Z2-2 though...part of my massive backlog ;_;

Huh, didn't expect this. The use of a line crossing ceremony to mark humanity's first passage out of the system - with all the poignant partings, farewells, etc that follow - took me by surprise. Humorous with some fanservice peppered all throughout, but there was some genuine emotion there too, and I felt my heart do stuff. Elegant, actually.

Also if Mars produces all the brown people, Mars is clearly the best planet.

Some people just remember things, especially for people they consider noteworthy!

Speaking of which, today's ep of MLP was sufficiently but not ideally :hito.

Good point.

Which is obviously why no show with CG should qualify for "Anime" of the Year. Also no show produced digitally.

Only the hand-drawn and hand-composited need apply!

I see what you're trying to do here but the art in AnH is an abomination and every technique you listed (which it uses) was executed terribly. I'm not against rotoscoping but this was bad. Blue Steel used CG pretty effectively.

My original comment was harsh but AnH is like an ugly baby. No one really loves an ugly baby... not even the mother. She just puts up with it because people hate deadbeat parents even more.

Anime is an audiovisual storytelling medium. Visual art is only one aspect.

Log Horizon 13

This was by far, the worst episode so far. Nothing against Crusty, but he's not Shiroe. His story with the princess was extremely meh. And I already didn't care much for the dungeon crawlers in the episode before this, so considering it went back to them I still didn't care much for them.

The best part of the episode was the AkatsukixShiroe moment near the end. Which of course was cut short :(

Flower of Evil's rotoscoping wasn't perfect, but it was pretty effective on the whole at creating the twisted reality that is the show's world. Combine that with Nagahama's skillful direction and cinematography and Studio Pablo's breathtaking backgrounds, the visuals were quite atmospheric.

Now I just feel like I'm either being trolled or a different art team took over after episode 2.

I just wanna say Renge is probably one of my favorite characters out of all the anime I've watched so far. She is amazing.

...you're seriously telling us that you didn't think the background artwork was good in AnH?

I mean yeah I had some issues with the rotoscoping at first but from the first episode Studio Pablo did an excellent job with the detailed background environments.

They've been dating the entire time; We're just not shown that at all. She's been tutoring him for his entrance exams, meeting his family, dating him, etc, all while the narrative was off on other things. It's kind of a bummer, and I understand why people that were huge fans of Bake haven't warmed to Nise or S2.

Yeah I'm just griping that we're not getting any dialogues between them since they're what got me into the series. I guess their interaction can be felt in how much her character changes once their relationship deepened, which is all behind-the-scenes as you've stated. I'm not sure more scenes of Gahara jabbing at Araragi would add much we haven't seen already, or Nisio might be holding onto these for later.

Also, the problem with Nise isn't the fanservice, which is arguably well-done (okay kind of a dubious accomplishment, but how many shows can you honestly say this about). The problem is the inconsistent writing and general air of pointlessness that betrays the tone in Bake since the two new characters are mostly treated as jokes. It's entertaining but sort of disposable.

The scene where
they calibrate the telescope to look back at an image of Earth from 8 years back
got me pretty hard. The despot introduced this episode has a cartoonish flair to him, but I'm expecting him to show more depth as we go.

HOLY FUCK I NEVER WATCHED DRAGON BALL Z BATTLE OF GODS.

I'm going to need to do that when I get back home on Monday and then promptly shift around my AOTY list.

I'm honestly telling you I didn't get that impression from the first couple of episodes which is all I was able to stand. Bad rotoscoping aside, the compositing left a terrible impression on me as well. The perspective of the animation sometimes didn't match with the background which lead me to write off all visual elements of what I watched. I didn't find the background work appealing.

It seems everyone is stressing detail from some of the screens just posted but quite honestly, I don't like it. I may be in the minority on this one and I'm certainly no learned and classy connoisseur of the business and general goings-on of anime so chances are this could be an offensive opinion but I don't like the way it looks at all.

Are you seriously criticizing the background art in Aku no Hana?

yup :)

Even first two episode have really ace background.

I clearly don't get it. I don't say that with sarcasm. A lot of people here who I generally regard as knowing a lot about anime clearly think its good but I find it ugly.

It's a silly format that makes rankings meaningless and screws over shows with small but dedicated fanbases.

Honestly, I think we should just leave the AOTY voting format as-is. We can always have our own curated AnimeGAF awards later on.

I'd like for it to stay the same as well. Seems like it'd force more consideration into placement while voting.
