Wii U Watch_Dogs canceled? GS Italy says so; Ubisoft no comment; back on gamestop.it

Was anyone here actually going to get the Wii U version? Genuinely curious.

Personally I expect the game won't be very good, like the assassin creed games. Crap combat, boring world, but good trailers and high sales. That goes for all versions.

Expect about eight watchdogs games this generation.

Wii U is pretty much dead then.

It already was. Cancelling Watch_dogs at this point isn't neither surprising nor changes anything really.

If it really is cancelled it could be that it has been so for a while now and they're just looking strategically the right time to break the news.

I more curious to know if there is actually anyone on this board who has a WiiU in the first place ;)
But this rumor if turns out to be true is pretty much confirmation that Ubisoft will abandon Nintendo and the console might die quicker than some here think. Next weeks investors meeting at Nintendo will be really interesting.

If it is cancelled, it would mean Ubisoft see the cost of finishing the port, printing packaging, and shipping it globally to retailers, and the projected sales thereforth, actually outweigh the cost of simply cancelling the port now. In either case they'd see it as a money sink, but less so to just pull the plug.

I have a Wii U and at no point did getting Watch Dogs for it cross my mind. PS4, PC hell even PS3 but previous AAA ports to Wii U have pretty much scared off my desire to play anything but Nintendo games. I can live without the amazing Gamepad features of map and inventory...

we talk a lot about how EA is evil

I dont think Ubi is that far behind

the difference is that the second publishes better games than the first

Not that surprising considering how hard was the development. 6 platforms is way too much for a new AAA blockbuster expecting to ne thé first of a successful serie.

Its not impossible that the Wii U version is canned, like EatChildren said, it really depends whether they deem the costs of finishing the game+packaging+shipping worthwhile compared to just canning it. There is no third party game that higher ups at Ubisoft can point to and say "Well what if it sells like ____ on the Wii U? Then we be stankin' rich!". Every third party game has failed.

Ubi did delay Legends, put it on every system under the sun, that was a sign of lack of faith in the Wii U obviously, as the title was meant to be exclusive. I do not expect Zombi U 2(Two?) to be announced for the Wii U any time soon either, even though they should.

Possible, but also be a misunderstanding.

Really thought WiiU would get little support from third parties atleast for a few years. Really dissapointing if true.

Why would you think any 3rd party would support a system when they know they won't get a return of investment on it. It's a business, not charity.

Definitely doesn't make things up as he goes along.

If it comes out, Nintendo likely would have incentivized it at this point

This is not good. Het is niet goed....

But honestly, who will buy Wii U version of this game? Any gaffer?

I got a Wii U. I also got a PS4, PC, PS3, etc. I'm going to pick up the best version of the lot, either PC or PS4. I bet most Gaffers with a Wii will be in a similar position. This is one of the reasons why third party software on the Wii U doesn't sell: too many people for whom the Wii U is a secondary console. They buy the exclusives only.

Don't be daft. Ubisoft are fantastic at supporting systems that others wouldn't touch with a barge pole. You can't blame them for reaching the end of their tether here though, they were on a hiding to nothing.

Whats disappointing here? That publishers wont take losses because they should be generous to Nintendo? Ubisofts AAA games didnt manage to achieve even 5 digit numbers lately, so how in the world could they do profit with WiiU? Its only logical that they stop spending money on it. I'm rather glad that the money on porting for WiiU is now available to optimize the next gen versions.

Where would GAF be without it's daily Nintendoomed thread?

Anyway it would be a shame if Ubi axed the WiiU version since it's just about the only multiplat I'd want to play on the WiiU.

Where would GAF be without its daily thread whining? Probably at a better place. :p

I totally agree. I don't have a PS4 / Xbox One yet, and I'm not sure how well my laptop can run it, so I was really looking forward to the Wii U version. I reckon it'll be a tad better than the PS3 / 360 equivalents if it does come out.

Same case here.

Wii U is the console for me to only play Nintendo exclusives.
Xbox One is the consoles for me to play MS exclusives + FPS multiplatform games;
PS4 is the console for me to play Sony exclusives + all the rest games.

So, in any case, I will not buy WD on Wii U.... Sorry, Nintendo.

I have to admit - I've had a Wii U since launch, and the only games I have are a couple of Nintendo games.

I'm part of the problem.

no surprise, really.
if it isn't a 3rd party game that is directly bankrolled by nintendo themselves, it doesn't make much sense to release games on the platform, unfortunately.

no one else's' fault except nintendo's.

again, no surprise… at least not '9 page' worthy anyway.

Make sense. Hopefully, if Ubi/Ninty isn't willing to comment asap, confirmation gets leaked so the internet can break again.

It's a business, deals happen all the time ::shrug::

Oh I know that! Nintendo distributed Ninja Gaiden and helped out financially with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate...they had a deal with Activision for Sing Party and Warner Bros. for Lego City Undercover...among other third parties...

And Nintendo has made clear deals with Ubisoft in the past (Just Dance is Wii exclusive in Japan + ZombiU is exclusive to Wii U)...I'm just wondering if Nintendo ever struck a deal with regards to Wii U versions of Western, contemporary blockbusters like Assassin's Creed IV, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Batman: Arkham Origins, Watch_Dogs...you know, ports like that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have...I just haven't seen any evidence of it yet.
