Wow, so they are pulling another Mega Man Legends 3 or Darkstalkers again? Just.....at the very least, PS4 and X1 owners are getting the best versions of DMC4, so even if there isn't another DMC in the series again, at the very least we are getting something :l.

Could this be a mistranslation too? As a similar thing was said regarding Darksiders 3, with the people at Nordic games saying while a third installment is in the works, the success of the Deathinitive edition will help the funding of that. That could be the case with both the DmC and this remaster; both tittles in the DMC series that are being re-visited in an attempt to getting the funding for future tittles.

Capcom isn't stupid, as the backlash from this exact move from Legends 3 and Darkstalkers was heavily criticized, so maybe this is a miswording or something and not an actual statement.

I believe Resident Evil 4 on Wii was the first to have this mythical test and pass, which brought us 2 BRAND NEW RESIDENT EVIL...lightgun shooters.

I don't understand this at all. I mean why base the future of the franchise on the special edition of an older game when they went ahead with a newer model for its newest title. I mean they wanted a whole new edgier DMC and we got DMC Devil May Cry, why not put the future on that game. Nonetheless I hope it sells well enough (already preordered my copy) and hopefully we get a true DMC 5.

WOW, screw you too then Capcom. I'm buy it either way but man, it hurts to know the series might not continue. :l

Capcom loves us so.

Don't believe their lies. They have said this type of bullshit so many times over the years for so many franchises. It's always untrue. Just a lame way to try to push people to buy stuff.

Ah the good old Capcom test. Pack up and fuck off folks, we're done here.

And when you pass the Capcom test..... more ports and remakes!!!

I remember when people told Wii owners that it was their fault they didn't get more top-tier Capcom games for Wii because they didn't buy a C-tier RE lightgun spinoff twice in a row or Zack and Wiki and that the Capcom Test™ wasn't an "actual thing".

And then the Darkstalkers and Power Stone situation happened. And now this.

I guess everyone knows how uncomfortable that shoe is now that it's on the other foot.

It sucks to be treated like a second-class consumer by publishers because of what you enjoy, regardless of the circumstances. I'm glad people understand that now.

Capcom have to be some of the biggest babies. They should not tell people this before the product is available. It's really lame of them, QQ moar. I hope SF5 bombs, SF4 never works after another patch, Deep Down never releases, and all your other IP's turn to shit and you're forced to collaborate with Konami to make mobile and casino games.

But... How does that even make sense?

What about the sales of DmC and *its* Remastered Edition?
Did those sell well?

Pinning the future of the franchise on a game from 7 years ago is... Well, it's Capcom Logic.

Friendly reminder that Capcom said a similar thing about the MvC2 PSN/XBLA port in regards to the future of the series, despite Marvel 3 (secretly) being in production for a little under a year at the point that statement was made.

That makes plenty of sense.

We're going to cancel this entire series because a budget remaster of a 7 year old game didn't sell millions of copies.

Don't forget Chop till you Drop!

Hey guys people love the Resident Evil 4 gameplay on Wii. Why don't we take the engine and make a spinoff installment?

I have a better idea let's use the engine to make a version of a 360 game that has completely different gameplay, missing the point entirely.

Wouldn't that require just as much work as creating a new game?

YES BUT WE CAN PUT A HILARIOUS PUN IN THE TITLE!

So, what happened to Darkstalkers?

Same thing that's happening here. They have no intention of continuing the franchise and are just using the sales (which they expect/know will be in a medium range) so they can point back and say "This is why there's no more of x game".

Unless they get some ridiculous out of the blue big ol' AAA-tier sales of course.

I really enjoyed DMC4 and was going to buy this one but not anymore because F you capcom, I am not to be held responsible for your screw ups.

God's had his chance.
"Hows about we give you a F2P DD that's cross gen and a DmC remaster that shall decide the fate of the series moving forwards after handing it off to hipster psychos during the last entry? Sound good? Fantastic. I'll be over here in the cocaine and crazy ideas room."

No, not even remotely what is happening here and people really shouldn't be paying any attention to this. see:

This is what people should be understanding. Hell, this should be quoted in the OP so that we can stop the silliness of this topic.

Uh, yeah whatever. I beat this game years ago and I've got better things to do now. If they make 5 I'll pick it up.

Hello, my name is Yves Guillemot, Vivendi S.A.'s Employee of the Month!
Pinning the hopes of the franchise on a remastered edition of a game that most people have already played... what.
A remaster from 2008 no less. Does this confirm that DMC5 won't be announced at e3?

Get ready to see MS open their wallets for this one.

Capcom spreading arms open for the highest bidder for DR and SF? Get ready for more backroom deals made. Capcom saying this nonsense just to get funding.

It's hilarious that people are surprised by this. This is Capcom's primary MO and frankly, the MO of any profit-maximizing company (so, all of them). Somebody said earlier in the thread that hollywood doesn't do this? They absolutely do- if a movie doesn't perform well, good luck seeing a sequel.

Moral of the story: Buy DMC4:SE (domestically!) if you want a chance in hell of DMC5

I hope majority of us will not buy the game to see if they will kill of the series.
The ball is in their court, not ours.

Thank you, games journalist, for rushing to post content without checking the actual interview.

You guys should probably read the original interview.

Nothing in here is stated about using DMC4SE to gauge interest primarily. He says at the end to send messages of support. The survey is part of that, and is Japan-only.

If you want DMC5, be vocal. You don't have to buy anything. Get on Twitter, show some love on Facebook.Do what you want to support a sequel, but take heart that it's not about buying a game.

(This is going to get ignored, isn't it?)

C'mon guys this is a bogus article.

They credits the article to a Google-translated Itsuno interview post from the DMC4SE thread. Which nowhere mentioned about Capcom will not make a new DMC game if the game won't sell. Itsuno only said that he hope people will support the game.

So chill, fellow DMC fans. This article's writer know nothing about the current state of the franchise. We'll just have to hope.
