You are marking target during "contract creation mode" after/before you kill him. If you save it, you are creating a contract for other player who has to kill the same person preferably using the same weapon and same outfit.

Oh well. Whilst going online isn't a problem for me, I had hoped features other than the main story would be available offline, too.

A period pun seems a little crass. Surely we can do better.
It's a threefer though and that gives it extra style points. Period marketing reference + episode reference + blood money reference. That's a lot of points.
