Anyone asking/demanding payment via methods with no recourse for the buyer (such as PP F&F) is always a red flag. It should set off the same alarm bells as when someone asks for payment via Western Union on Craigslist.
When you use a no recourse method, you are saying your payment is a gift, so while it is possible to still do a chargeback, it is much more difficult. And it can be super difficult if you didn't fund with a CC.
The biggest prior scams I can recall were selling of fraudulent keys.
There was the issue with the one seller who kept selling corp and edu Windows keys (which got revoked after 90 days or so).
And then there was the issue with sellers who sold the fraudulent Gears keys from Amazon (buy video card, get game key as part of bundle, cancel video card, sell game key) and refused to refund buyers when those keys were invalidated because the card orders had been cancelled.
As for Google Wallet, it technically has fraud protection, though the timeline for a refund is longer than PayPal, relatively speaking.

I mean, nothing you're saying is wrong here, but at the same time, 99% of my sales and purchases have been done with Paypal F&F. I don't think that requesting Paypal F&F is the red flag you're implying here. In the end, I rely on the NeoGAF feedback thread, and for better or worse, a bit of trust when trading here.
With that said, if I were to purchase a more expensive, $400+ item, I may be more inclined to request to use standard Paypal rather than F&F.

While F&F could definitely be seen as a red flag, I don't think that's always the case. I sold 2 $500 phones on here and CAG and requested friends and family. Didn't want to risk a charge back. There's always an inherent risk with selling stuff online.

While I understand what you're trying to say, I'm not sure if the Craigslist comparison is a fair comparison to the community here.
Craigslist is built on anonymity. Once you deal with someone on there, you'll more than likely never deal with them again. You can even get scammed after meeting in person, so it's certainly much more inherent risk in dealing through that medium.
This is a different circumstance than GAF, where there are many more factors that would be taken into consideration other than just the payment method as the primary marker to be cautious of someone or not.
I'm not saying that there were no red flags and it's always safe to trade here; however, sometimes those flags aren't as apparent as you would like to believe they are, or would like them to be, especially when the user has built up a reputation already, and has great feedback, and other components that would signify they were a good seller.

I bought a used switch from a guy here through PayPal F&F. In retrospect not the smartest thing, since it was a good deal, but i generally trust people on here.
I'll have to be more cautious now, though, given this recent development.
