Street Fighter V hasn't even hit 2m. The biggest Resident Evil is at 7m, and the biggest MH is just under 5m. This is peanuts compared to the biggest franchises from EA, Ubisoft, Activision, Bethesda, 2K, etc.

Capcom has also completely failed to get anywhere in the mobile space which is a way bigger issue than "OMG WHERES THE SWITCH SUPPORT CRAPCOM!!!!!".

Who is going to spend hundreds of millions on Capcom?

Street Fighter V not hitting 2m is due to issues with the invidual product and a perfect example of Capcom's inability to adequately manage their brands.

Those brands may not be as big as the biggest western publishers but they're just as big as any other Japanese publisher's IPs.

Capcom's inability to crack the mobile market is again a reflection of their current management. If anyone were to buy Capcom they would be replacing that management.

I don't think it would be a good business decision for Nintendo to purchase Capcom. Resident Evil, DMC and Street Fighter are heavily associated with Sony. Megaman is an unknown in terms of sales potential. Monster Hunter alone would be worth attaining but not at the price that Capcom would ask for it. Ace Attorney would also be a good addition but it has limited sales potential.

It would be best for a competent third party to purchase Capcom. Preferably Bandai Namco or Sega.
DMC and SF are in decline sales wise if not megaman’d.
But yeah, it’s probably not a wise purchase unless Nintendo expanded.

Capcom is probably more expensive than they’re worth at this moment

Oregano, you're saying a company should spend hundreds of millions or even a billion dollars to buy Capcom, fire everyone in management, bring in a whole new team to lead things, and basically restructure the company from the ground up all to gain control of Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter?

I really don't get it. Like, Horizon was a new IP that launched this year and is already close to outselling the biggest Monster Hunter game. Where's the value here?

No, I'm not saying they should. I'm saying that would be the argument for it.

I'd also say Capcom would have to lose a lot of value before it even became a possibility.

They would likely buy the IPs they wanted individually.

An inadequately managed brand inevitably becomes a damaged brand and they rarely resuscitate back to commercial health once that point is reached (Mortal Kombat being the most obvious and recent exception)

Depends a lot of fighting games series have bounced back and forth between relevance. Aside from Smash of course.

It already happened with Street Fighter in the last decade and I'd argue USF2 shows the brand still has signifcant strength.

I don't think it would be a good business decision for Nintendo to purchase Capcom. Resident Evil, DMC and Street Fighter are heavily associated with Sony.

It's not. Sony wishes it was the case, hence the SFV moneyhat, and that game turned out to be the worst selling mainline Street Fighter since III despite the PS4's massive install base. SFIV sales were more or less a wash on PS360. SF also wasn't a huge seller on the PS2 despite the install base and lagged far behind Tekken (an actual fighting franchise with Sony association).

Most people associate console Street Fighter with the series' peak on the SNES.

Can GG launch 5 horizon games on one platform and achieve those sales consistently. Cauae that's the more relevant comparison :p

Horizon is probably a bad comparison, Its valuable whenever a top tier dev like Guerilla makes it, and is given a large budget and lots of time and money to work with. It's not a game that you can cheaply pump out in a timely manner, and its also not a game thats going to sell 10-30 million like the big AAA publishers want from that kind of investment.

If you gave the Horizon IP to Falcom for instance, I dont think they'd even do anything with it. If you give Falcom Monster Hunter or Final Fantasy then it probably changes their financial situation dramatically.

So it looks like Sora to Umi no Aida released after that delay finally? (Maybe someone with a JP account can check?)

I was just using Horizon as an example of a new IP. Obviously there's stuff like COD and Madden which can sell millions every year with ease if we want to discuss the biggest franchises.

Nah, I don't think it'll have trouble selling the stock quickly enough.
maybe the first shipment, but the next shipments probably won't be the same

Should have just left the mobile business to Aniplex, ugh

There's no valid excuse to ignore Switch support in Japan at this point now. Unless a real miracle happens or a gargantuan fuck up by Nintendo, it'll be the country's platform of choice. Companies like Capcom are insane to avoid it, it's a clear swim against the tide at this point.

Capcom's portfolio of IP as they are performing now are most likely not worth any cost associated with buying the company. Traditionally it's not a good business decision because you can't ensure the talent stays (what talent?). So essentially any entity that would purchase the company would do it mostly for the IP, most of which are down this generation because of their mismanagement.

I'll ask something brought up a bit ago and maybe I'm missing something- but how is Minecraft Switch not on this? Its near the top of the e shop chart virtually all the time.

Minecraft is usually above MK8. So yeah, something is wrong.

Sucks at viral marketing
I don't think GE3 will be on switch,it's too late for Bamco to do anything right now. There could be a coop action rpg that eat that piece of the cake that capcom left on the table, but it doesn't have to be a hunting game
There's no good reason for GE to miss the Switch. The GE project was first teased last year and then teased again in March... with almost no details provided, including platforms. It's early and it's now said to be on hold until their other game is finished. The series did great numbers on the PSP (600k) and strong numbers on the Vita (350k), while doing terribly on the PS4 (50k). Announcing the game so close to the Switch with no other handheld to release it on and then having no intentions of releasing it in it even after the system takes off is just Capcpom-levels of stupid.

Not necessarily, there's a method to the madness.

What seems to be the case is that Famitsu ACTUALLY charts the data in a combined total of retail + digital in said month, see last month for example:

30. [NSW] Fate/Extella – 13,128 (12,019 physical, 1,109 digital)

Note that these sales are based on data between June 26 and July 30.

The bottom shows Fate/Extella at 13k total. Since Minecraft Switch is digital-only, it would have had to have sold just over that to make it to the top 30. The prior month had Minecraft Switch at 13k for reference.

This is why having the FULL chart is crucial. Someone didn't post it for some reason... :p

Granted Minecraft Switch would've been seen if it had sold enough, but point is, we're missing crucial data to show the whole story. What's handy is that in these charts, we get to fill in a couple of missing pieces where a game that was out of the weekly top 30, could still show up here during the tracking period. This is how we found out Fate/Extella Switch's 2nd week when we didn't before.

I agree. Cap can turn it around bit better learn. Gamers can turn fast on you if u Don t do things right.

I have a bad feeling that Bandai Namco will do that and none of their next projects it's going to be ported to the Switch.

PSN Sales

You've got the PS3 section labeled as Vita.

Also I'm kind of impressed to see Destiny 2 that far up at a price point like that. ~65 EUR / ~75 USD is not exactly cheap for a standard edition.

That's quite the low sell-through ratio here, though I have no doubt it'll all be sold within the next few weeks. This is no Pokémon Rumble World, that's for sure.
