Palestinian children in the occupied West Bank have started the new school year in improvised tents after Israeli authorities demolished their classrooms the day before term began.

Around eighty 5 - 10 year olds from the village of Jub-Ad-Dhib went to classes held in cramped tarpaulin tents or under the hot sun on Wednesday following the Israeli Civil Administration’s decision to confiscate and destroy steel terrapin cabins used as school buildings along with other educational equipment on Tuesday.

The six newly-installed portacabins donated by the EU were put in place so that local children did not have to walk an hour to get to school.

Over the last two weeks, four Palestinian communities have seen their educational facilities - donated by international bodies and NGOs - destroyed on the grounds that they had been built without proper planning permission.

The security forces also removed solar panels powering a school for Bedouin children near Jerusalem were removed on 9 August, ignoring a High Court petition over their removal in the process.

The High Court ended up issuing a temporary restraining order against removing the panels, but it came an hour after they had already been dismantled.

That's the point. International pressure demands that in the peace process Israel gives up all the illegally gained ground so the longer they keep the war going the longer they get to use that ground and the more political points can be scored by scare tactics. (The Palestinian leadership likes the conflict for the same reason, meanwhile the citizens get fucked over repeatedly)

Would it be too much to hope that the EU gets on Israel's ass about this? If we (I know, that only applies to me for another year and a half) donated the portacabins then Israel is deliberately sabotaging our efforts to help these people.

That's precisely what they want. The same happens in the USA with republicans. Their entire ideology revolves around escalating problems through authoritarian methods to continue getting elected by morons.

Yes, but the negro is not yet ready to self govern. We must teach them and guide them to civility and modernity, so that one day, only when God wills it, they too can be full participants in society. But until that day comes we must decide for them; for they are simple minded folk with baser, some would say savage, instincts. It is the kindly and goodly thing to do.

I'm waiting for people to come in and defending this since such young children don't deserve a right to education if they were raised by criminals or something like that. I don't know how this whole act could be justifiable, those children probably don't want to take part in any of this.
