Update:

Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi took to the stage at San Diego International Comic Con on July 11, 2015 to address fans about the brand new Yu-Gi-Oh! Movie “Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions” that will be coming to theaters. In addition to revealing the movie’s title he also debuted the film’s poster.

During the panel Mr. Takahashi revealed more about the film’s story. The film takes place a year after the conclusion to Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters. In addition to Yugi and Kaiba you will be seeing a lot of familiar faces on screen – characters previewed included Joey, Tristan, Tea, and even Bakura, all with updated designs.

Mr. Takahashi also brought along storyboards which he shared with the audience, but by far most exciting thing shown at the panel was a teaser trailer for the new movie, which we will debut online 7/18.

Yu-Gi-Oh! The Dark Side of Dimensions is scheduled to premiere in Japan Golden Week 2016. Release dates outside of Japan are TBD.

In conjunction with this announcement, Crunchyroll will begin streaming Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX in Japanese with English subtitles for free. The first five episodes of DM are up, but it looks like GX is a little late.

Calling it, the dimmensions are the same ones from ARC-V.

Azure-Eyes Silver Dragon will appear somehow.

New Synchro support for blue eyes.

HOLY SHIT!

This is the best news. I was watching through GX awhile back but all the subs available were absolutely horrific.

did the manga end the same as the anime?

Yes and no.

Yes because technically it ended with Yugi beating the Pharaoh in a duel, who then went to the afterlife.

But then it splits because we've got the anime version of GX and the manga version of GX which both take place directly after but have their own story.

this movie would have had more impact if they didn't decide to time skip in each series making the original less significant power wise.

did the manga end the same as the anime?

Pretty much.

The anime and manga both had loads of different stuff before and after though. The GX manga, for instance, only has superficial similarities to the anime (and imo is much better).

Furthermore, even in the core yugi moto series, the manga never had all that weird orichachos/dragons stuff or the big five stuff, but it did have R, a series written after the yugi moto series ended but which was set after battle city and before the final arc.

I'm liking this new trend of having anime movies taking place right after the end of the manga + the mangaka doing the story (Naruto the Last and the new DB movies). What's also interesting is the supposed focus on Kaiba.

Oh, btw guys, definitely check out subbed Yu-Gi-Oh DM. Very worth it for the better acting, script, being uncensored and uncut, etc. No shadow realm shenanigans here, just like in the manga.

Reminds me of classic YGO aesthetic, and I love that. Bring it on. Show me those duels in SPACE.

did the manga end the same as the anime?

It ended the same way, only it didn't have a continuation in the form of GX and the other series. GX followed up from the anime (not the manga) though I suppose you could fit the manga there too somehow. The GX and above manga are pretty much original stories using the themes and characters from their anime versions aka alt universes.

While true, episode 1 isn't as fun without ALL FIVE PIECES OF THE PUZZLE and EXODIA OBLITERATE

They didn't.

Only the original and GX are directly in the same universe. And the GX cards weren't too overpowered really.

5D's has some nods to the original like Neo Domino and Ushio, but all in all is implied to be its own universe.

Zexal is straight up a different universe, as is Arc-V.

Pretty much.

Nope.

My favorite thing about GX was the comedy and characters, which the manga greatly reduced. For one, Manjyome in the manga is pretty much your typical rival, while in the anime he had a great character Arc that is probably one of my favorite in all of Yu-Gi-Oh.

5ds is actually in the same universe though. That one movie with all 3 main chars proves it (and that movie is definitely canon since Paradox was the last member of zone's group)

Too much Ojama Trio for me. They were funny at first but it kinda gets run into the ground

It was really ambiguous how that all happened tbh. They could've went to a different dimension to get Yusei.
We know original DM-GX exist in the same universe, but it was established in Arc V that each summoning method exists in it's own universe implying DM-GX (Fusion), 5D's (Synchro), Zexal (Xyz), and Arc V (Pendulum) take place in separate worlds all together. Even though technically the Arc V universes are alternate versions of their original incarnations. Talk about a mindfuck.

I don't think arc-v really invalidates this idea and you already pretty much explained why
Also the villain is part of the 5ds final villain group and his motive was to kill Pegasus. There really wasn't ever any ambiguity

Maybe this movie will tie into Arc-V and reveal the Original Series verse is the
Ritual Dimension

I hope the subs on Crunchyroll are good. I remember the few subbed episodes 4kids officially released had a lot of dub-text added in.

Couldn't get into GX and I'd be hard pressed to tell you how many sequels came after that. :/

True. I think it's more of a case of split timelines more than anything else. Where 5D's is the original timeline and Zexal and Arc V taking different paths. The worlds in Arc V are just alternate versions of those timelines...and an alternate version of the GX era.

Rituals were extremely rare in the Original Series.

If anything, it would be the Tribute/Advance Dimension.

making it the lamest dimension by default. XD

Hopefully they are using the Japanese music for Duel Monsters as well. Probably the best part of the show. They should really bring back Mitsumune for this movie. Would be nice if they at least include some music pieces from the original show.

A Pretty Panda

fuckin' called it, man
There's a new Black Luster Soldier group of cards that interacts with some new Kuriboh and Gaia cards. I'm sure Yugi will use these in the movie

I'm ready for the Abridged Version of This.

Y'know I wouldn't mind if they make a new series but base it off Season Zero. I'd be totally fine with that

How can you not love Jack Atlas. All his duels with Yusei were awesome outside the last and his theme is god tier.

Manjome is ok and Jack is decent, both don't match the OG Kaiba.

They are making a lot of those. Black Luster might as well as be its own archetype at this point.

A Challenger Appears!!

Notable feats over Kaiba.

1- Actually defeated (more like humilliated) the main character, twice. No need of Suicide Threats.

2- A freaking badass theme

3-Also runs a company and a dueling school, he also organizes big tournaments, but that's
just a front as he recruits soldiers for the war

4-Can Fusion Summon, Synchro summon, Xyz Summon and Pendulum Summon in one single turn. And he looks boss while doing it

5-His entire strategy revolves around losing lifepoints, edgy as fuck
