InvaderGames closes down the project of Resident Evil 2 Reborn and is invited by Capcom to discuss further ideas

Hello everybody!

First of all we want to thank all of you for the passion and the attachment that you have daily shown us. We'll be always grateful.
Today we want to join us of a very special day for InvaderGames. After the official announcement of the Resident Evil 2 remake by Capcom, we officialise the end of the works on Resident Evil 2 Reborn.
Contrary to what might be thought, this is wonderful news for us and, as fans, we're so happy that Capcom has decided to take the lead of the project and to develop the remake awaited for years by everybody (nobody could bring back to life the masterpiece of 1998 better than the creators themselves).

Meanwhile as developers, we're honoured to announce that we've been officially invited to meet Capcom.
Capcom called us up in advance of the announcement and asked us if we would mind stopping the project as they had longer term plans for a Resident Evil 2 Remake. They have invited us to a meeting to discuss further ideas.
Even though we cannot complete the project of Resident Evil 2 Reborn, we're happy that what we've shown has achieved consents from worldwide fans and especially has been noticed from Capcom itself. We promise that the work done until now will be useful for future projects, we won't disappoint your and our expectations.

Thank you again for letting us to be where we are now in spite of the long way that remains to be walked through, we hope to focus soon on the biggest professional chance that we could get. Once more, we're very grateful to Capcom for having noticed our work and having appreciated as much the love we feel about the Resident Evil saga as developing videogames. It's very rare to find such a leader company in the industry so much open minded and sensitive to the work of a growing studio like ours, guided by passion and competence.

News available soon, stay tuned!

Hopefully one of the ideas InvaderGames had WASN'T "Make the game over-the-shoulder like our game..."

It's like this could've been expected.

It would be interesting if Capcom internal devs worked on classic REmake version of Resident Evil 2 while Invader Games continues forth with a RE4 camera style version that is official and overseen by Capcom. It will be interesting to see what happens with all of this.I'm excited either way.

Hopefully, someone can get RE3 remade as well.

Wow, so Capcom is pulling what Sega did with the Sonic Hacking/Fan Game Community and is letting them on board for future projects (ala Sonic CD HD and the Mobile ports of Sonic 1 and 2) :D!

Great move and it allows Capcom to have a base to work off of (RE2 Reborn) for RE2 Remake going forward or having them work with the community for where the Remake should go direction wise (a game similar to RE 1 Remake).

Kudos to Capcom for working with the community again (like they did by officially branding their 'seal of approval' with Mega Man Vs. Street Fighter a while back).

They're gonna get brain raped

Also, before the update to the Unreal Engine 4 version, the original Unity version had both fixed camera and over the shoulder cameras and controls.

I doubt they'll need to steal ideas, but I do think they'll hire them or put them on board. No way you get called to an office to discuss ideas and then just leave.

Eh, I hope you guys got something out of it from Capcom and did not stop your project that had massive potential for nothing. Your project had a lot of wonderful ideas and when completed, it could have pushed the genre and Resident Evil 2 further. If you contacted Capcom, they probably would not have replied until they contacted you, and in general. you shouldn't layover easy to a big corporation.

I'm curious if they are trying to do something like this. It would take extra work, but wouldn't be out of the question.

It would actually be pretty awesome if they made it so you could play it in classic RE style OR over the shoulder. With encounter designs/gameplay being different in each mode. Essentially 2 games in one.

A base to work off of in the completely wrong perspective. If they're doing this remake right, they really can't take anything from these guys. It's cool that Capcom is reaching out like this, but their interest actually concerns me that they're planning the over the shoulder route.

I'm starting to hate remakes. So often the developer just doesn't get it right. That's part of the reason REmake is such a classic gem; it's rare to nail everything like that.

Capcom isn't entitled to give them anything.

I wonder if they invited them on board to use the work they have already compete as a base for the RE2 Remake.

They likely want it to come out within the next two years (RE0 is coming out early 2016) and it will take a lot of time to make the HD assets for RE2 (they already did pre-rendered assets for RE1 Remake and RE0).

So, using the RE2 Reborn assets as a base to build off of would be a smart move financially and it would give the team behind RE2 Reborn project a shot at developing a big project with a publisher (and work on their dream game with Capcom).

Very interested in seeing where this leads to, so I look forward to more information coming from this :).

Edit: Ignore this post; if Capcom wants to do the RE2 Remake right, they need to do it on their own I guess :l.

Yup, I agree wholeheartedly. InvaderGames Unity build included both fixed camera and OTS camera perspective and controls. Then they went with just OTS in Unreal Engine 4. However, I think Capcom is interested in including both perspectives. They would just have to be two different modes even though they share assets.

Them being presented with even the possibility of helping with the official remake? not really

That's just a nice, gentle way to deliver the C&D message, offer a tour of the offices and have a nice talk.
If they actually applied to work at Capcom, then maybe.

I think they people who are most worried are ones who haven't followed the fan project from the beginning. The original intention of the fan project was to support both perspectives (classic fixed camera and OTS) when it was developed in Unity. They didn't reveal whether or not the Unreal Engine 4 build retained the classic fixed camera option. I think that they realized that it is a lot of work supporting both perspectives from a gameplay balancing standpoint. However, Capcom could use them to work on the RE4 style version while Capcom works on classic camera version themselves.

It is a very interesting development none the less.

It's totally fair of a company to put a C&D when they're actively working on a remake themselves. It's also pretty cool that they're inviting them to discuss the project with Capcom themselves. It's a huge difference compared to companies that issue a C&D for a game that the company has no intention of ever making.

Capcom is getting back on track, aren't they? This makes me so happy. Capcom is my favorite developer, by far, and the past few years were rough. To see things such as this is just awesome :)

Good work Capcom and InvaderGames!

Better than a cold Cease and Desist. But the point of a fan project is probably to show that there is interest. And Capcom does it themselves now, its all good.
