Read about Batman the Torturer

This concept sounds pretty interesting. Too bad it never came to pass. An even darker Batman than Frank Miller's.

Bullet points:
*Tortures people
*Batcave in an abandoned subway
*Left behind his fortune to live on the streets
*Batmobile is just a regular car that's been souped up
*Never got made because it wasn't kid friendly

Wasn't his idea the one with all the weird shit like Alfred being a random mechanic and Batman branding people and basically none of it being like Batman at all lol

Edit: yes it's the one I'm thinking of haha. Alfred was a machanic named little Al. Bruce becomes Batman because he punched someone with rings and the resulting mark looked like a bat. He doesn't travel the world and instead just reads a lot. The batmobile is a Lincoln continental. He fights using chemical weapons.

Lmao. Movie would have been fucking mental.

Shouldn't the title read Darren Aronofsky and Frank Miller's Batman?

Frank Miller was in on that quite a bit.

edit: And yeah, within the first paragraph, it's revealed this information is coming from an interview with Miller. Who says "Batman wouldn't torture people."

Frank Miller just said "Batman wouldn't torture people."

Batman Year One - The Ninja Turtle years

I would love to see this movie one day .... but this would be the most panned batman movie ever

This was the movie that spawned the weird Aint It Cool Meme "Gordon has a beer and cheats on his wife" right?

edit: Yup. It was.

edit edit: That's a pretty thorough rundown of the script. When you read that, keep in mind: That's how we got movie news back then.

This would've been a disaster. A complete disaster.

I wouldn't say a complete disaster. From the sounds of it, it could have been a lower budget movie and I don't know, it sounds pretty cool. Yeah it's a huge departure from the Batman we've become accustomed to, but financially I don't think it would have been a huge risk for the single movie alone. Maybe it would have had repercussions on the franchise at large, but when exactly was this treatment done? Before Batman Begins? If so, the world was treated to the likes of Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. A crazy take might have had traction?

No thanks. I thought Arkham Batman was more vicious than TDKR Batman, who is already getting there.

My ideal Batman doesn't derive pleasure from hurting criminals, and doesn't lack emotion. It looks like the BvS Batman will be branding, I hope Superman befriending him starts the healing process. I liked New Frontier's Batman, how he picked up a robin and became less frightening to kids.

I'd be down to watch that lol. Would be interesting

Don't like this guy tho outside of the superb wrestler movie

In a better world we'd get burton superman and this without WB fearing it would hurt the brand

Like an out of Canon comic book

Didn't really get into the details other than Batman torturing people (criminals). It didn't say he derived pleasure from it. He's also never been the nice guy you'd have a beer with. He's usually portrayed as a stern and fearsome vigilante. Doesn't really express any emotion outside of maybe anger.

It differs depending on the writer of course, but I really liked Tomasi's take on Batman and Robin.

Scott Lobdell wrote a nice moment as well.

He likes to study boners with his chum so he certainly has a whimsical side

So he basically didn't want to make a Batman movie. Just like the guy that wanted to to not make a Superman movie by not having the suit or the flying.

While I am very much looking forward to BvsS I kinda cringed when I saw the guy with the brand in the trailer.

I prefer the comic and Animated versions of the character.

I remember reading the script years ago. It was like the worst elseworlds story you could think of.

Wasn't the "bat" image adopted because Bruce's "branding" of an overlaid 'T' and 'W' (meant to mean his dad, Thomas Wayne) was misinterpreted? I remember something really stupid like that.

Pfft, like Wayne couldn't invent some super powerful Bat Viagra.

I was never a fan of the whole "Batman's crazy!" idea that a lot of people like to push. I think it would be rather difficult to make a superhero comic with a hero that is completely unrelatable or unlikeable.

I think everything can sound stupid, and really comes down to execution.
I believe the time that this project was supposed to manifest, Miller had written Martha Washington and Robocop vs Terminator, which are both underrated and great. And Darren Arnofsky can do no wrong in my eyes, so there was a good chance that this could have been good. As fans, we need to release our grip on these IPs, to promote growth and good stories. Too much of the same is boring.
I'd be more curious to see how Darren's Superman would have came out.

That meme still makes me crack up. Almost as good as "with Hulk Hogan as the baddie."

I actually reported on a couple things to AICN back in the day. How the mighty have fallen.

Actually, the idea works exactly as a parody of Batman.

It would've worked as a dark comedy, with would be Batman failing at everything he does.

As yes, the one where Batman kills Loeb by throwing a knife into his eye.

Here I thought this was old news. It was an unfilmable concept.

I remember there were three active batman projects, aronofsky, another great director and the Nolan one. They all sounded pretty cool. After Requiem and Pi , I really hoped we woul've gotten the Aronofsky movie, after the Fountain, Black Swan and Noah, I'm pretty happy with what we got.
