Recommend me some useful Android apps

I realized I only use Chrome, WhatsApp, Spotify and Pocket Cast (in that order) and stuff like some weather app and the calculator. It's like a smartphone is wasted on me. Surely I can be more productive with my phone? I also have Prisma which is nice.

Have a look at some of these:
  • Lastpass - Password manager
  • Authy - Google authenticator alternative
  • Flamingo for Twitter
  • MX Player - Video player
  • PowerAMP - Local music file player
  • Remoti.co - Remote app for MPC if you use that
  • Swipe for Facebook - Facebook client alternative
  • TVShow Time - TV show manager etc.
  • Weather Timeline - Weather app if you don't like Googles own
  • Nova Launcher - Alternative launcher app, if you like customizing
  • Package Disabler Pro - Disable bloatware (if you have a Samsung phone)
  • Solid Explorer - File manager
  • Swiftkey Keyboard

THE google app. Google Now and Tap are great additions to any phone.

Maps
Photos
Twilight
Android Pay
Hangouts
Keep
Prisma
S Planner (Not sure if this is on the Play Store)
ES File Explorer

EDIT - Don't really need a weather app anymore. Just search 'weather' in the google search and it brings up an app like interface.

Rooting your phone is a security risk.
Make sure you understand that before doing so on a recommendation.

Google Photos is awesome thanks to its unlimited photo storage.
Google Keep is nice for notes/lists
Play Books is nice, especially if you have a large AMOLED display (black page background is god-tier)
Google Fit is a nice pedometer / lightweight general fitness tracker
Rewards is great for making pocket money credit

Just realised these are all Google apps...

Erm, Videostream is nice if you have a Chromecast.
BBC News is a nice app if you can get it.

You already have Pocketcasts, which is my favourite app :)

Twilight or Easy Eyes is a must for using your phone at night. Get the PC equivalent, f.lux, as well if you don't have it.

This is a Cheetah Mobile app, get rid of it.

I've been using Amaze File Manager which has the advantage of being open source, and also been trying the Solid Explorer File Manager trail. So far I haven't found any reason I'd need the paid version of Solid, Amaze works fine for my needs.

If you workout try Fit Notes.
Makes it really easy to track your workouts and is very simple to add exercises if they are not listed on the app already.

I feel lost working out without Fit Notes.

Hiking apps:
PDF maps, fre and paid premade GP aligned maps
Custom Map, make your own map
ViewRanger, hiking tracker
Google My Maps, advance trip planning, bookmarking

What do you mean by cheetah? I'm hating all the es bloat too but the biggest problem is when I have to change my network password at work every few months and es can't find my network drives.

Fitnotes looked great when I've tried it. Too bad I'm so invested (in time and money) in Jefit.

Macrodroid for small automation tasks
Automate for large automation workflows
Orgzly is the best note-taking/todo app in existence

Alarm clock plus has a function that forces you to solve difficult math problems to snooze, and/or disable an alarm. Handy if you have a tendency to oversleep.

If you like performing music, Mobile Metronome, Tuning Fork and Smart Voice Recorder are good utility apps

A lot of Dragon Quest games have been released for Android, if you enjoy RPGs and want something to do on the train

Mah man

Everyone recommends Fitocracy or some other app for tracking workouts and I hated them, I love how simple Fit Notes is :D +1 for this one.

snacknuts

we all knew her
this is great.

The only problem i have now with it is that i have $30 credit, and I have no fucking idea what i can spend it on!

I spent the overwhelming majority of my Google Play credits from this app on building up my digital movie collection.

Fit Notes is great but I switched over to Progression. Better interface and the dev is lightning fast at answering and fixing bugs.

subscribed because I just got a new phone, some of these apps look like I would use them a lot (airdroid)

edit: what's the best way to organize music on android, if I'm going to be migrating from an ipod with about a decade of the itunes drag-and-drop familiarity?
