TOKYO—Nintendo Co. has decided to end its planned production of the Switch console in the year ending March 2018 owing to strong earnings, people briefed on the plans said.

That suggests the Switch, which went on sale globally March 3, is on a similar track in its first year as Nintendo's popular Wii system a decade ago. A representative from Nintendo was quoted: "We're extremely happy with the success we've seen so far with the Switch. The feedback has been incredible. And that's why we will be winding down production beginning in May." Further queries were met with no comment.

This follows the pattern of Nintendo's recent discontinuation of the NES Classic, which was a top-selling item over the holidays. It remains to be seen how this will play out for the company in the long term.

Please, that clickbait title, Nintendo ends its original production plans, not the production itself.

edit: Ops, it's a shitpost.
