"This is an insane move by this president; the world depends on a sustainable future," said Brown. "It's tragic, but out of that tragedy I believe the rest of the world will mobilize, will galvanize our efforts."

As Christiana Figueres, the former executive secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, who led the talks that created the Paris Climate Agreement in December 2015, explained on that same call, it was always people in states, cities, and companies that would be working to cut emissions. Now, they might be doing the same — just without the mandate from the president.

"I think they will do so with much more enthusiasm after today," said Figueres.

Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York, Governor Jerry Brown of California, and Governor Jay Inslee of Washington announced the formation of the United States Climate Alliance after the announcement, stating that they would convene states committed to upholding the Paris Agreement and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

From CNN Link posted by cbdhybrid:

Governors who have proclaimed their continued support for the accord include:
-- Charlie Baker, Massachusetts
-- Jerry Brown, California
-- Kate Brown, Oregon
-- Andrew Cuomo, New York
-- John Hickenlooper, Colorado
-- David Y. Ige, Hawaii
-- Jay Inslee, Washington
-- Dannel P. Malloy, Connecticut
-- Terry McAuliffe, Virginia
-- Gina M. Raimondo, Rhode Island

A group of 61 mayors said they "will adopt, honor, and uphold the commitments to the goals enshrined in the Paris Agreement."
The group includes:
-- Mayor Martin J. Walsh, Boston
-- Bill de Blasio, New York City
-- Rahm Emanuel, Chicago
-- Eric Garcetti, Los Angeles
-- Jim Kenney, Philadelphia
-- Mitch Landrieu, New Orleans
-- Ed Murray, Seattle

Didn't see a thread on this and thought this was some good news. [I discovered this on facebook and when I found out my state was part of this I was very proud. Go NYC!]
Don't let that orange dumbass, or crazy republican who doesn't know his own religion get you down. There's still people out there willing to fight. It takes time, but we can do a lot.

Form for my fellow New Yorkers to fill out:

What happen to the New England states?

BTW the coastal states should double down on the auto emission standard to force the auto manufacturers to choose sides.

Ah, good old Massachusetts. Where our Republican Governor says fuck you to the Republican President. I don't think there are any other Republican Governors on the list (correct me if I'm wrong).

I would like it if Washington allowed solo drivers in electric cars to use the HOV lanes, similar to what is allowed in California. Someone should make that happen soonish.

Can we do a healthcare alliance as well?

Blue states deserve this. WA state is pretty fucking wealthy and usually runs a surplus as far as I understand. I don't know anything about the intricacies or how difficult it would be to do something like this so I'm probably talking up my ass, but it would be fucking great if we could set an example and show the rest of this country what's possible.

NY and CA are both trying to get single payer going. I think CA has a better shot, but NY is getting closer and closer....hopefully.

NY and Cali are both one chamber away from the Governor's desk, but NY probably doesn't do it until after the next state elections and the state-senate finally flips.

Wouldn't it be funny if the president gradually evolved into a ceremonial position, and all the governors elected a minister to represent them, a prime minister if you will.

New York State has the Independent Democratic Caucus (conference?) the exact amount of state senators that are required to prevent a Democratic Majority in the Senate. The IDC is supported by Cuomo so he does not have to actually pass liberal legislation and has a divided legislator to play off of.

Not going to happen. See above (they also get bribed). But it would be fantastic for multiple state to come together as a single buying block.
