yeah, it's even on the old interface. honestly, it's at least something youtube added that isn't awful in every way (and it's in webp, rip old IE)

re: porn sites: you know the scale of doing this on yt vs pornsites is a few magnitudes larger of a feat

Doesn't work with all videos, though.

I believe porn sites have an easier time doing this because much of their content is rehosted which then requires them to only store metadata and compressed frames making up the preview. The nature of their content doesn't really require them to vet it as much as YouTube does which is why many of them can get away with their content hosting setup. If I'm not mistaken, youtubes played around with this in the past, I vaguely recall seeing it a few times and I've never been a part of a beta program or anything like that.
