Well deserved. I can't wait to see where they take this game. There's already an amazing foundation here. We just need more bushes for me to hide in.

I am having such a blast with it ever since I built my new PC. It runs so damn smooth for a good-looking game. Epic did a fine job with the gameplay and I wish them nothing but success with it!

Well, obviously, but if you're asking if it's still being developed, Unreal Tournament 4 was the sacrificial lamb for this mode, not Fortnite PvE.

Yea I didn't phrase it the best. I meant in development terms as well. Shame that UT4 took the bullet :(

Considering it took them like 7 years to even get Fortnite released, it'd be pretty shitty of them to ditch the core concept to chase BR. Can't blame them for following the money though.

Sooooo is the BR mode going to overshadow the base Fortnite game at this point?

100%, base Fortnite as a concept is dead.

The BR mode is pretty good and runs very well, their are some major issues however that keep it short from greatness (shooting feels inaccurate at medium to long range / inventory system is absolute trash).

The base Fortnite mode is still a thing?

It just got a bunch of updates last week: https://www.epicgames.com/fortnite/en-US/news/horde-bash-announce

Challenge The Horde Mode

It all starts in a staging area. You’ll have unlimited time, but limited resources to build a portable horde fort. Once you've designed the perfect fort, exit the staging area and party with up to three friends. Your forts will be ready for action when your team hits the ground. As you survive, you’ll receive more resources and more rewards to Challenge The Horde.

Scavenger Event

With the new update comes a new event llama. The Scavenger Llamas holds four new Heroes, nine weapons, two new Defenders. Earn the Scavenger currency by completing quests and playing the new Challenge The Horde mode. The Scavenger weapon set is delicate, but they’re all cheap to craft.

New Heroes

Introducing Scavenger Heroes with new, never-before-seen perks.

Raider Soldier - Loves the shotgun and close encounters.
Ammo Harvest Outlander - If you need ammo, this is your Hero.
Trap Specialist Constructor - Get a damage boost & durability boost.
Energy Thief Ninja - Generates and leeches energy from melee combat.

And More!

Along with modes, weapons, defenders and Heroes … the update includes over 25 new progressions quests with rewards that range from Scavenger tickets to Legendary items!

We should be happy that developers ditched the dead end game to create something popular. We don't need another Lawbreakers type scenario just because people think they want the new UT.

I look forward to the future of BR genre, unlike MOBAs, it has way more room for the variety of experiences.

Why not put it on Steam?

And also, for PC, they need to deal with the hackers or theyll lose the audience quick.

They also need the cosmetics/DLC model in quick too, for their own sake and also for people who get bored without collectibles

It's crazy how fast things can suddenly change in this industry.

It's fucking crazy. This thing didn't even exist a month ago or so! And it probably saved Fortnite from being forgotten by the large majority.

For sure, but I can still be sad that games like UT don't do well these days :(

When is Overwatch gonna get a BR mode? Blizzcon announcement? ;p

There are actually several companies that have been making Hero Shooter Battle Royale games since the H1Z1 era.

Amazon has Crucible and there's something called The Darwin Project.

That's insane. I never would have expected it to be this popular.

I think a lot of folks underestimate the power of the console user base. This is a game mode that many can't or don't want to play on a PC but would gladly engage in on consoles. Epic was super smart getting this Battle Royale mode out the door.

Now... question is when do they start monetizing it?

OMG PUBG is a monster. It is going to decimate on consoles if those are PC numbers. I am sure everyone who is not bluehole is pretty happy it isn;t coming to PS4 yet.

E3 2018: Everything is Battlegrounds.

Probably, but probably also too late. Just like every company on Earth took a shot at moba money and failed, leaving only two games basically, I think we'll see the same here. It's gonna be PUBG and Fortnite standing at the end, I'd guess.

Shout out to everyone involved with the Division at Ubisoft. What the fuck were you doing? Literally everything in that game is a perfect fit, including setting, premise, gameplay, and even a battlegrounds-lite mode. A catastrophic drop of the ball not taking a shot at the most popular thing in gaming.

They're following the DOTA2 model of building a userbase first and monetizing later once the gameplay is refined and content is there.

Hm kinda expected higher more due to releasing on pc, xbox and ps4 and also being free while being marketed as a PUBG like game

As someone who has never played these types of games. Is it fair to say that it looks like it's just an evolution of the Counterstrike gameplay? At least thats what it looks like to me looking at some streams briefly.

Congrats to them, it’s well earned.

I’ve played a decent amount of both PUBG and FBR and honestly if they added vehicles and a bit of customisation, I actually think FBR would be my preference.

Really impressive considering how barebones it is currently. There's literally nothing but the standard BR mode on a single map (that's not even that big) at the moment.
If EPIC can keep people playing whilst they add more and more to it, they could have a massive hit on their hands.

They need character customization and loot crates, I don't think many people will buy the PvE mode, because they liked BR.

They're coming.

Right. It was actually at PAX East a year or two pack as well IIRC, so it's probably not too far from launch.

I imagine we'll see more Crucible at Twitchcon.

I think that aggressively pursuing consoles while PUBG ties itself to Microsoft is really going to pay off for Fortnite.

Awesome.

The more support this gets, the better.

ME and my friends are already having tons of fun.

One if them specifically adores the build mechanic. Getting really fucking good at it too.
