Custom Firmware for Nintendo Switch announced (Spring 2018)

This solution will work on ANY Nintendo Switch console regardless of the currently installed firmware, and will be completely future proof. This is *the* solution for opening up CFW (Custom FirmWare) on the Nintendo Switch. We want to move the community forward and provide a persistent, stable and fast method of running your own code and custom firmware patches on Nintendo’s latest flagship product. And we think we’ve succeeded!

I'm usually happier with these things coming a bit further down the line but if it's here, it's here. It'll be interesting to see what comes of this.

It's Nintendo, they were never that good in securiting their consoles... Can't wait for it! Some homebrews on the go will be great!

I wasn't interested in the switch but now I am. If the homebrew community is active we might have a competent tablet/gaming device on our hands.

Awesome if true. Switch will become my primary emulator, and I'd love the ability to watch Youtube and look up stuff on the internet. If the homebrew scene is good enough, I might even buy a second switch just to keep as the ultimate stay home/on the go emulator.

lol, yeah. I believe they’ve cracked it on the current firmware but “it will work with all future firmware” sounds like BS.

Yeah, Switch has really been struggling up until now...

Have you seen the 3DS? That shit's all future proof.

if you set cfw on your 3ds you are indeed able to install any update on firware and there's no possibility to interferr with cfw.

Thing is, cfw doesn't lead straight to 'pirated games', so we're going to have to wait to see how it goes and if the cfw for Switch is working. With the available power, this may be a really nice machine for emulators

TX have 15+ years of reputation in making hw/sw for console hacking, from the PS1 to the Xbox and 360. No reason to doubt that what they have is legitimate, but if their solution amounts to the same glitching setup shown at 34c3, homebrer hackers have already said that it's entirely possible for Nintendo to patch that, so does throw some doubt on the future-proof aspect. Unless of course what they have is something entirely different, time will tell I guess.

Remember that time the Wii U gamepad was cracked by chopping the end off the encryption key and putting it on the front?

Maybe you put the red joycon on the blue side and POW root access.

Takes hackers to do what Nintendon't. If you won't sell me your old games Nintendo, I'll happily make my own virtual console.

The company is known for hard-hacking consoles like the XBox or XBox 360 with including an extra chip which takes over the system at startup.

Not just a simple software.
