As long as Nintendo stick to what I consider 'good' DLC, this is very good news; on the other hand, if they start doing what I call 'bad' DLC, this is very bad news indeed

Considering the content in each DLC, it's actually rather expensive.

Doesn't the price of the DLC, plus the amount of content, fluctuate wildly? I haven't been following it that closely, but some of it seems to give you a decent chunk of content, but some of it is just basic maps.

People will pay for DLC, Nintendo smells blood.
Now the real test comes. We shall see if Nintendo's will is as strong as the Nintendium they use to forge their hardware. Nintendo is in a particularly unique situation compared to other pubs/devs because of the enormous fanbases they can tap into. Staying true blue on DLC policies when you have that kind of power would be some godlike ish.

wait $4 DLC?

Are you guys doing a straight up yen to dollar conversion? Because I'm pretty sure that's not how much it would be in america, you guys always seem to get everything cheap.

Have they released the digital sales numbers for NSMB2 yet?

Nope. The only other games mentioned are the F2P Gundam game on PS3, and Phantasy Star Online 2

Gundam Battle Operation
Software Download count = 570,000
DLC sales count = 1,250,000
Sales by August = 700,000,000 yen

Phantasy Star Online 2
Open beta = 500,000 IDs
July 20th = 700,000 IDs (Peak 90,000 connected at once)
Aug 10th = 800,000 IDs
Sept 11th = 900,000 IDs

Not sure if its good news or not...

It's good news for anyone who likes digital content from Nintendo, as that's probably as much real profit from DLC as they saw from sales of the game itself (after dev costs, manufacturing, etc)

But yeah, hopefully this further opens Nintendo's - and Japan's in general - eyes to the power of downloadable content and digital sales.

If Fire Emblem can manage these kinds of sales for DLC just imagine what Smash Bros DLC revenue would be like.

That's the revenue equivalent of selling another 80,000 units of the game. Yeah, Nintendo has to be pretty strong to keep their promise of not going overboard with DLC.

Nintendo is going to milk those tits for every copper penny.

where "bad dlc" = "on disk dlc"?

He's probably referring to Nintendo's stated DLC strategy to have the game be a fully featured product at release (nothing is cut out to use as DLC), DLC is developed after the game releases, and the DLC is developed by the original development team.
