Sim City + GTA + RTS game + The Sims hybrid = Godlike!

Hmmm.... I was thinking. Wouldn't it be great if there was a Sim City + GTA + RTS + The Sims hybrid?!

Imagine this... The game comes with a powerful building tool so you can make a city as large as and detailed as the one in San Andreas. Sprawling sky scrappers, docks, suburbs, baseball stadiums, etc. The works!

When you get a decent sized city going, you take on the role of the mayor; a crooked mayor! The object is to keep expanding your city, keep your city in working order, and line your own pockets with money at the same time.

A lot of the game depends heavily on your own personal funds because you have to use your wealth to:

-Pay off judges or anyone who has you blackmailed(pictures of you in a stripclub).
-Hiring strong-arm goons to intimidate people into doing what you want.
-Rig the voting polls to keep you in office.
-Hiring assassins to eliminate the competition. There are constantly other politicians trying to take your job; even some in your own cabinet!
-Hire the best legal team in the country. Lawyers work a lot like the NBA draft. You have to always be scouting for better lawyers.
-Hire mercenaries.
-Rigging the races down at tracks.
-Buy weapons, ammo, body armor, and vehicles for your underground army.
-Hire bodyguards to keep a watch on you and your family(I'll get to that in a moment).
-Much more.

Here's the kicker! When you aren't at the office in 'Evil Mayor Mode'(bird's eye view of the city, ala Sim City 4), you take on a third-person perspective over the shoulder camera view. In this mode, you get to move about your city freely to do whatever the hell you want, just like in GTA(with all the same polish and physics detail)! Steal vehicles, start random fights, do missions, etc. So you aren't limited to just seeing your city from a bird's eye view like in Sim City.
The missions in this mode, let's call this mode.. Evil Mayor Pimpwalk Mode, depend on what's currently happening in your Evil Mayor mode. For example, if you're trying to secure a piece of farmland that it's owner absolutely refused to sell, in Evil Mayor Pimpwalk Mode, you can drive over to this guy's home, whack him without getting seen and take the deed to his land. If you don't want to deal with this issue personally, you can deal with it in Evil Mayor Mode where you can get your cronies to do the job, but if you didn't hire the best cronies, they might slip up and the whole thing comes back to you(this is where your legal team comes in handy).

The RTS mode also comes into play during some of the missions you encounter during Evil Mayor Mode and Evil Mayor Pimpwalk Mode. For example, in the case of that farmer who didn't want to sell you his land, he was only one person so he was relatively easy to handle by just yourself. The RTS mode comes into play when you have to combat a group of people. Instead of going all one-man-army, you use two components at your disposal: your police department and your underground army of mercs. Which one you use depends on the situation. If you need to do something that's considered illegal, you use your secret army.
It works just like any other RTS game. You select groups of mercs and tell them where to go. You can hire mercs from a roster and using your slush fund, you supply them with weapons, body armor, explosives, extra training, etc. For an example of where you might need to use your army, let's say one of your rivals started to get a foothold in a part of your city. He setup shop by building a casino that's been generating him money so he can do even more damage. Depending on how deep he's rooted himself in your city, you will be able to remove him by completing one or more missions. In the RTS mode, you'll use your army to bust into his casino, and plant explosives to take the place out. You'll have to have your mercs protect your explosive experts from your rivals' gang while they do their job.

When you're not in Evil Mayor Mode, Evil Mayor Pimpwalk Mode, or RTS Mode, you'll be at home where the game takes on a very The Sims feel. You'll be able to build your own and pimp it out with whatever you want. Let's call this mode, Life Mode. In Life Mode, you'll also have to interact with your family(if you have one). You'll have to keep your family together by listening and finding solutions to their problems. This mode will also open up the possibility of more missions. For example, if your son is getting bullied at school, you'll have to go down there and give those bullies wedgies and swirlies. If you don't like the guy your daughter is dating, you'll have to persuade him to get lost; the Al Bundy way. Or if you suspect your wife of cheating, you'll have to pay to have a private a detective to keep tabs on her so you can find out what's going on.

I haven't decided if the game will continue on infinitely like Morrowind and GTA or if it will just end after serving a 4 to 8 year term(8 assuming you get reelected) and the overall object is to get the highest score possible before your term is up.

MILLION SELLER +1 !!!!11!! LOL AM I RITE?!

Seeing as how a lot of that stuff has kinda already been done in Republic: The Revolution (with the elections stuff and the like), sure why not. Sounds good, and I hope it's technically achieveable, cause it would be good.

Unfortunately, it's probably going to be too big for it's own good. Like the idea though, but I'm afraid there's too much going on at the same time.. Makes you lose your head at times. Unless you implement some sort of system which takes care of some happenings automatically and right.. With a margin of error of course.

But to be honest, there's a lot of modes, and people tend to get lost in the woods. So, I'm afraid you'll only be able to cater to a certain Hard-hardcode market. The design sounds like it could be fun though, the problem probably lies with it's massive size..

"Evil Mayor Pimpwalk Mode" - now this is a GAF gimmick I can get behind, instead of those fucking owls. :lol

There are some interesting ideas in there, but probably too much bloat as well. Not many GTA players want to run a city ala Sim City. I would, as I love both games, but I think that we're a small market segment. :) The SimCity portions would probably be the parts to get cut, and you would stick to Pimpwalk Mode.

However, does it make a lot of sense for the Mayor to jack cars or start fights? I think you'd need to have some other game play elements in there. For instance, the Mayor has to avoid assassination attempts while on the street, or while going from one building to the next, he can interact with the people to try to increase his popularity and such. The ideas for missions could be great though. Meet with crime lords without being seen by the media. A midnight tryst with your mistress, etc. :)

I've found that when you have genre spanning games, each part of the game isn't as good as if it was dedicated to one genre.

I used to pray for a Freespace and FPS combo, but thinking about it, it would be better to just have a solid fps and a solid space combat sim.

Sounds like an interesting game though.

Ever play Republic: The Revolution?

Supposedly it's sort of like that, the sinister bureaucrat bits anyway, but I couldn't stomach it long enough to find out.

I really like your idea. In fact, every time I've played Sim City I've thought it would be great to be able to run around the city GTA style.

Cool idea, but too much. No game company could put enough time and man-power to have every single piece of that game going well. Parts of it will suck.

The orginal design for SimCity 4 was suppose to allow you to get down to Street Level and walk around in a full 3D environment, much like GTA. It was scrapped I believe when they moved away from the full 3D design and took the game in a different direction.
