I recall some time ago that the GTA guys got upset about Sonys claim that they had sold 11 million copies of GT3 (making it the number one selling game on PS2 ahead of GTA) , but surely if this is the US sales and the JPN sales got to around 2 million copies,

Not saying Mario 64 wouldn't have sold a lot anyway, but it certainly wasn't hurt by the fact that anyone who got an N64 got Mario 64.

interestingly enough, i called MKA being the most successful fighting game of this gen...but everybody was like..."eh, a western fighting game against tekken...you are crrrrrraaaazy!!".

It matters when half of those units have been shipped to the US. The US ps2 userbase is much higher than the US N64 userbase. Let alone considering the total gross $ value, of which Mario 64 will be no doubt way ahead, what with the N64 cart prices of the time and inflation since then widening the difference in real terms.

B. Soul Calibur 2 is more evenly split across the three consoles
C. You have shit-awful taste in fighting games

Soul Calibur 2 is just boring, sorry. VF just isn't accessible enough to the masses. MK DA outsold SC2 on both PS2 and Xbox. I'm just glad my tastes coincide with what's popular and what is selling well. I'm glad they don't coincide with Mooreberg's tastes at all. I also left out MK sales on Xbox and GC, either way you want to cut it, just PS2, or all systems combined, MK DA is the best selling fighting game of this generation. And it deserves to be because it is a fun game. Not a simulation, not a technical game, just a fun game.


This is going to be the best year for fighting games, both DOA Ultimate and MK Deception. And they're both revolutionizing the 3D Fighting genre with online play. Don't worry SC fans in the meantime can dream about what destructible multi-level arenas and online play would be like.

After seeing those N64 figures I now realize why Iwata is always crying about gaming not being up to snuff today. It's because Nintendo's software sales aren't either.

Well they could either fantasize or just go to arcade where the good games are.

Arcades? Yeah those are real popular. There will probably be more people playing MK Deception online on the first day it is released than people who have played any game in an arcade in the last 3 years.

MKDA selling so well is awesome. It's funny how so many people try to say the series is dead.

I wasn't expecting FFX to be the second best selling FF game game overall. I would have thought VIII would have it beat due to a long time at a budget price.

My guess is Sony included the pack in games with the GT3 PS2 pack. (which this probabaly doesn't count)

Remember how much that sold? Crazy numbers.

When Super Mario 64 x 4 gets released on DS we should count that into SM64's sales.

Using Shrine of Data as a base automatically makes this list fundamentally faulty. They don't update old figures unfortunately, their N64/DC/PS1 figures likely don't include any sales past 2002... we need an actual NPD list, not spotty pieces of it.

I'd like to see what MK Trilogy has been selling lately and what it's total number is post 2002. It seems to still be in print and be one of the best selling PSX games. I see it EVERYWHERE for 10 dollars. Same with stuff like Tekken 3 that you still see all the time.

How crazy is it that Madden 2004, a game that was released not even a year ago, is so high up on the list? Fuckin' insane.
