AND ITS FUCKING AR NOSURGE.

YES.

FAQ

- What is Surge Concerto?

The Surge Concerto series is the latest from GUST mastermind "Total Command" Akira Tsuchiya. Renown for creating the vast world that is the Ar Tonelico series. Surge Concerto currently consists of two games. Ciel nosurge, a life simulator for the PlayStation Vita and it's sequel, Ar Nosurge, a traditional RPG for the PlayStation 3

- What is Ar Tonelico?

USgamer has a fantastic article on the series: http://www.usgamer.net/articles/i-shall-give-you-endless-earth-an-ar-tonelico-retrospective "They may not be the best JRPGs you'll ever play in terms of presentational polish or indeed with regard to their gameplay, but if ever there was a series worth exploring on the strength of its narrative, setting, characters and degree of emotional engagement alone, it's Ar Tonelico."

- How is Surge Concerto related to Ar Tonelico?

Both take place in a universe known as EXA_Pico http://artonelico.wikia.com/wiki/EXA_PICO and more so, Ar Nosurge is essentially a spiritual sequel to the Ar Tonelico series, although timeline wise, its also prequel to it. XD

- Why should I even care about this?

The Ar Tonelico games while niche, was actually an amazing sleeper RPG series during the 32 bit era, and more so, feature musical compositions that rival if not outshine most video game soundtracks out there. Not to mention the indepth and intricate character development that you won't really find in any other RPG out there. Were it not for the buggy localization, IGN would have given Ar Tonelico 2 an extremely high score. "Instead, it's become a cautious recommendation of a game that would've otherwise been a huge recommendation." http://www.ign.com/articles/2009/01/29/ar-tonelico-ii-melody-of-metafalica-review?page=1. IMO I rank Ar Tonelico 2 as the best RPG of that era, but that's my opinion. Anyway, also with Tecmo Koei asking how many of us actually want it, this is our chance to make our voices heard. It'd be a crying shame if the west did not get to experience Ar Nosurge and similar.

- Ar Tonelico 3/Qoga was fucking awful, why should I bother?

Ar Nosurge is a return to form and some. Everyones that imported it has ranked it as good as if not even better than Ar Tonelico 2

- "Way better to invest in that than this moeblob game."

Really need to get around to playing these games. The Ar Tonelico stuff and the Atelier stuff are just huge gaping holes in my JRPG knowledge.

I'm interested because it looks more like a traditional jrpg then the Ateleir games(don't care about item making). I just hope it dosen't have a lot of otaku pandering.

Wtf? Why??

Remember that thread about not playing games due to art style? Well, I hate to be that guy because this may be a good game, but this type of stuff always makes me cringe a bit.

And I was on here begging for more jrpgs. My fault I can't be satisfied, I guess.

A Gust subsidiary?

Garbage game incoming.

These kinds of companies aren't doing anything good for the progression of the industry.

I remember playing Ar Tonelico on PS3. Weird weird shit but the soundtrack was pretty great.

Same soundtrack guy/gal on this one?

Yes, see the links I posted. The utahime trio + Origa and other talent are on board with the extremely awesome Gust Sound Team as well

I would buy the ps3 version in a heartbeat and I don't even own a ps3 anymore. I'd play it in my roommate's room if I had to haha. I love Ar Tonelico.

I personally felt Ar Tonelico 3 was awesome, one of my favs actually. I didn't mind the changes. But yeah, Ar no Surge...I really want it. I hope we get both the Vita and PS3 version.

I seriously hope they do Ciel first. Ar makes no sense without it.

You should see the back!

Her ass isn't 'DAT ASS spank' worthy?

We sadly gotta live with the idiotic fact that Japan can't make a game without pandering to the otakus.

There's also an "Offiline" version of Ciel no Surge that will be released the same time the Vita version of Ar no Surge hits. Maybe that can be localized too! Let's hit dem Twittaz!

I saw the announcement that its coming to vita

is this a localization of the ps3 version or something?

Nothing in OP tells me what i'm supposed to be excited about/if I should be excited at all

Seeing this industry, it seems like garbage games are the ones that sell the most. However, this I'm sure will not be one.

I like Ar Tonelico 1 and 2 primarily for the combat and music. They were also relatively discrete about the pandery crap. 3 was much, much worse and I couldn't do it. It didn't help that there was nothing at all compelling about AT3's combat. I remember reading that Ar Nosurge's combat isn't quite as advanced as Ar Tonelico 2, but it seems like it should be decent enough, so I'm interested unless I see something particularly heinous.

Gust consistently makes high-quality, unique JRPGs.

They are basically the only company which can claim that these days.

Every sane JRPG fan needs to be a Gust fan these days.

Didn't know you played Gust JRPGs. Very cool. :)

If progression of the industry means making mobile cash-in trash then I think I'll take my chances with stagnation.

I've never played anything Gust but I have a few tracks that I've run into that I like.

One that I enjoy is "Loki", I assume it's from the original game?

Unique? The games are as color-by-number as you can get.

The writing is bad. The character development is nonexistent. They tweak gameplay with each subsequent entry in their ever-running series, but there's nothing "unique." Character designs are standard and uninspired. The stories are unoriginal, and the plots are ridiculous.

You're just using a straw man now. I never said anything about "mobile cash-ins." Gust could try something new. They, clearly, have a fanbase and the resources, but they don't.

It's own progression/hybrid of 2 that;s engaging enough. It's and and beyond the let down that AT3 was
