Another new release comes straight in at No1 for a second successive week – last week saw a No1 launch for 2K/Take 2’s ‘Evolve’ and this week it is Sony’s turn to debut at No1 with PS4 exclusive ‘The Order: 1886’.

It was developed by Ready at Dawn Studios, known for PSP Daxter and PSP God of War titles. Sony’s last No1 was back in August 2014 with Naughty Dog’s ‘The Last of Us: Remastered’, also for PS4.

Activision climb 1 place to No2 with ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ (+3%) and the aforementioned ‘Evolve’ drops from No1 to No3 (-66%). Ubisoft’s ‘Far Cry 4’ gets pushed even higher (promotional activity and now half-term) climbing a further 3 places to No4 (+28%). Meanwhile Rockstar/Take 2’s ‘GTA V’ (+0%) remains stable in sales and chart position at No5. Half-term boosts all versions of Minecraft, with ‘Minecraft: Xbox Edition’ climbing one place to No7 (+31%) and ‘Minecraft: Playstation Edition’ climbing 2 places to No9 (+27%). Nintendo’s big new 3DS entry last week, ‘Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D’ drops from No2 to No8 (-70%) and Capcom’s 3DS ‘Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate’ shows a similar pattern, down from No4 to No12 (-68%).

This week we also welcome 2 more new entries with Sega and Creative Assembly’s ‘Total War: Attila’ for PC strategists at No21 and Koei Tecmo’s ‘Dead or Alive 5 Last Round’ for PS4/XO owners at No27.

Congrats to Italy on superior taste.

It is the middle of February. I could release Call of Duty with a slightly different front cover and it would shoot straight to number one. Not to take anything from The Order, it's actually a game I really like, but I wouldn't say debuting at number one is indicative of any major success.

The Order 1886 @no.1. Fully deserved.

Consumers giving the middle finger to reviewers, that's what I like to see.

Also Sony seems to be pushing out more software this week 13/10 in PS4s favour, so the "xbox sells more software" theory is kinda debunked.

So I assume it's safe to think that The Order sold less than Killzone and infamous at launch, seeing as there is no PR relating to "highest selling new PS4 software" PR in the text.

Good game (I agree with the 6.5), but just wanted to put that out there as a consideration.

I hope The Order sells well. I think it's solid and has hints of brilliance, and the foundations are there for an amazing sequel if RAD incorporate more player agency. The user feedback generally seems very positive, and I've never seen such a difference between consumer and professional feedback. Seems to me like a lot of critics had decided before playing that they didn't like The Order, or what it represents.

It may be late, but it wouldn't shock me. Sony really should have had a bundle out.

It's odd though, we established with Evolve that being #1 isn't a certain success. We need numbers for the true picture, but I don't think we'll be that lucky. We seem to get the numbers only when they want to talk about a format split difference, or in the case of The Crew, entirely by accident in the blurb.

I am enjoying The Order, but week 1 includes all preorders, so it was always going to go in at number 1 without any other major new releases.

I think the gaming press will effect sales in the coming weeks, although maybe not next week as alot of bundles are coming with The Order at the moment. A bigger effect on sales will be the amount of second hand copies that will be hitting the market. It would be smart to announce free DLC coming next month to keep people from trading in their copy.

I know there's a deep yearning for the game to do well in spite of reviews, but 25k+ isn't particularly impressive for a game that's the first big hitter of the year and one that was as heavily marketed as 1886.

Reaching number 1 in the UK in Februrary doesn't automatically mean the game is a success. Not saying it won't be but it's pretty premature to be popping champagne bottles based on that especially when we don't have any numbers for how it performed.

COD sold around 24,476, so The Order was above that.

Why are more people continuously buying Call of Duty on Playstation 4 than on X1?

What's the point in MS paying for the timed dlc if it doesnt work?

Install base. And for all we know, it could work somewhat and XB1 sales would be even lower without it.

Theoretically there isn't one, but I wouldn't be expecting it to have done gangbusters unless Sony have some PR coming later today. They'd have something if it was the best selling PS4 exclusive yet.

Evolve did 40k across XB1/PS4 (well, 1% contributed by PC), so I'd probably put it between the COD 24.5k and 40k as a realistic figure. Just no idea where on that scale.

Forza Horizon 2 still hanging around! Well deserved.

Yeah MS wouldn't bother to continue renewing that contract with Activision unless it was definitely worth while for them.

Do they usually comment on UK sales? I've got no clue on non-NPD stuff to be honest, never seen a press release on sales by platform holders.

Not saying it did great numbers but I don't think we have a ceiling on the number yet. All we know is it sold above 25k

Seems like a silly assumption to make. Couldn't they just be individuals that enjoyed it and are hoping for good sales to make a sequel more likely?

Let's not delude ourselves either. If it had sold really well, I'd expect to see some Sony PR to go along with the chart news.

I'm guessing it's low to mid thirties.

25k is the minimum. It could have sold significantly more.

30k - 35k is about where I think it sits. Could be higher, could even be lower. We won't know for certain until someone leaks the figures.

They do if there's something notable. Like Infamous Second Son increasing PS4 sales by 106%

True, but the ceiling won't be very high. Certainly not above 50k in my opinion.

35k seems about right, but let's hope we get some figures.
