Following H1Z1: Just Survive's recent renaming to Just Survive, I suppose it's not a huge surprise that Daybreak's battle royale shooter H1Z1: King of the Kill is now simply called H1Z1. In past interviews I've conducted with members of Daybreak and pro players, everyone pretty much just calls it H1Z1 anyway (and often just H1), so it makes sense.
The name change may also suggest that H1Z1 could be preparing to leave Early Access, but Daybreak isn't giving any specific details on that yet.

The H1Z1 Invitational is just over a week away, and we want to look our best for the biggest event of the year! With todays Test update, youll notice that weve made some major front-end user interface (UI) changes that simplify the menus and update the games look. And speaking of simplification, you may also notice that weve dropped King of the Kill from the name. Thats right, H1Z1 is now just H1Z1.
Once youre in a match, you might see that elements of the UI still look like they used to were currently working towards making sure those align with the new style, and will let you know once those changes are also on Test. For those practicing for the Invitational or Challengers Qualifiers, dont worry; we left everything in-game the same for competitive consistency. Nothing has changed beyond the UI, logos, and artwork.
So why the change again? Throughout development weve continued to define the vision for H1Z1, which is competitive at its core with fast-paced and action-packed combat. Over the past year, the game has grown by leaps and bounds in terms of both player base and development, so we thought it was time to evolve the games look to something that better represented the spirit of H1Z1 and the level of quality we aspire to. H1Z1 is also the name that our players connect with most, so it was just natural evolution for us to transition back. We're also working to ensure that H1Z1 can be enjoyed by players around the world, and having the word 'Kill' in the name of the game can be limiting with some global audiences.
To answer the question many will have: does this mean youll be exiting Early Access soon? These updates definitely take us a step closer, but we still have to polish up the core gameplay (with your feedback) before were ready for a full launch.
Our social media handles and website wont switch over until the current Test build goes to Live were currently targeting October 18 for that with the exception of Reddit and Discord. Were booting those up early as we know it will take time to migrate the existing community over to the new locations. All of our other social media handles will just change on the existing account, so you wont need to update the accounts you follow.
