Nintendo demoed Switch 2 to devs at Gamescom | Sources Claim it runs Matrix UE5 Demo With Comparable Graphics to PS5/XSX

Comparable Graphics to PS5/XSX

Similar to PS/X demo?

So Switch 2 will be around 10-12 TF? There is no way Nintendo's next system will be that powerful. Nintendo also likes to make good profits on hardware right off the bat too, which makes them want to go with less costly hardware to ensure the retail price isnt in the Sony/MS range.
Costs can scale down quite a bit when a company like Nintendo makes an initial order for tens of millions of chips. They could also retail for $500 and the system would still fly off the shelves for quite some time. The old Switch is still selling for $350 which is fucking INSANE

VGC has added further clarification since people probably are a bit triggered by the claims made in the report. I've updated the OP.

Another VGC source claimed that Nintendo showcased Epic’s impressive The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 tech demo – originally released to showcase the power of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in 2021 – running on target specs for its next console.

The demo is said to have been running using Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology, with advanced ray tracing enabled and visuals comparable to Sony‘s and Microsoft’s current-gen consoles (however, it should be noted this does not mean the Switch successor will sport raw power anywhere near that of PS5 or Xbox Series X, which aren’t portable devices).

Good luck with battery life. The only way this would be believable is the New Switch being fixed docked mode only. Nvidia have a bad reputation over mobile battery life, so no way all this saying be true.

Still, not sure if this is the Nintendo vision for their future. Target base PS4 would be more believable.

We already have the leaked specs of the SoC. This will punch above base PS4 even in portable mode using DLSS. This is just more confirmation that the nvidia leak is 100% correct.

I talking about target PS5... and leaks not already reveal the true, even so the authenticity of the 'leak'.

Just keep your expectations in check my friend. Not even Steam Deck can do what the leaker is saying this new NS is capable of do. Would require a loads of modifications into the cooling system, abandon the ARM architecture, building up a huge battery into the mobile...

In terms of raw graphics the Switch 2 will probably be similar to PS4. The difference is built in upscaling tech that PS5 and Series X don't have. Built in DLSS tech will be a game changer for Switch.

It's not targeting PS5... the leaks suggest the games will look comparable to current gen games, not that it has the same specs. Steam Deck is also running on AMD and has no built in upscaling tech, btw.

Exactly! Not to mention in docked mode we should be looking at something closer to PS4 Pro only with a much better cpu, more RAM and faster memory.

The PS4 Pro was targeting 1440-2160p. The Switch 2 only has to target 720p-900p and let DLSS do the heavy lifting to get us to 4K. With so many examples out there showing the power of DLSS, I’m not sure why so many people are surprised by this rumor. The Switch 2 will in no way be as powerful as a PS5 or even a series S for that matter but with AI upscaling, it doesn’t have to be.

On a side note, I’m thinking AI up scaling, Frame generation and AI raytracing will play a big part in the PS6 / Next Xbox.

This won't happen. That's not "Nintendo's way". It's probably an upscaler tech trick. Lets hope it will be better than a PS4(let alone ps4 pro).

DLSS is totally believable. In fact I believe DLSS will be the star of this new Nintendo Switch. But Ray Tracing?

'Its not targeting PS5', but using Ray Tracing? Are people here forgeting that Nintendo Switch use an ARM cpu?

Guys, please. This is not the Nintendo way. RT will bring nothing to the first party table. DLSS is the only thing I can understand because consumers normally use 4K TVs when dock their Nintendo Switch.

Nobody is saying this thing is going to be pumping out the same raw amount of pixels at the same PS5/SeriesX settings so no laws of physics need to be broken.

We already have games running at 720p and being upscaled. I’m sure Switch 2 will handle cross gen games well, but don’t see how it does with games that are 100GB in size and are made to take advantage of consoles with much better CPUs, not to mention other stuff.

Maybe the switch 2 isn’t a switch, it has a new name, and it’s a stationary console. Otherwise the word “comparable” is going to be doing heavy duty lifting.

Most likely the Nvidia chip Nintendo went with just has RT built in by default. Also, the more heavy lifting done by DLSS the more possibility of using fluff tech like RT.

Also, assuming Switch 2 has DLSS 3.5: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/nvidia-dlss-3-5-ray-reconstruction/

There is no console or handheld on the market that has built in DLSS. Anything being upscaled on them right now is done in software, not hardware. It will make a huge difference.

Represent.

Ya right. I’ll believe it when I see it. Nintendo has delivered nothing but ancient hardware and hideous looking games since the the Wii, and suddenly their next handheld hybrid is running the most impressive game demo of all time at ps5/X levels? Prove it.

I don't expect every game to get ported and it would be silly to assume that, just like the current Switch doesn't get ports of everything.
But the fact remains the next Switch will most likely have the same feature set as the current gen consoles, it will be DX12 Ultimate compliant (or whatever the nVidia/Nintendo API equivalent is) so in theory there's nothing really stopping devs from attempting to port over stuff, it just boils down to whatever compromises the devs are willing to make and we don't know much about the storage format situation.

Believe in what you want. I don't believe RT stuff taking into account the current state of Ray Tracing and what you need, from the PC pespective, to use a Ray Tracing.

Ray Tracing is very very taxing, I don't believe at all Nintendo will target Ray Tracing, is not even worthy building a hydric console with RT capable hardware just for third party to use. Nintendo exclusive games wouldn't use RT because art direction.

Again, make sense they pursuit DLSS to tackle the lower resolution. Nothing more.

Super Switch or gtfo!

Seriously though, I hope they do a proper account transfer on this. It’s about time.

Also, does a chip exist that could perform at these levels?

Also, wouldn’t switch need a significant price drop?

Nintendo was the console graphics leader up until GameCube, and now the company is under new management.

The board meeting for Switch 2 probably went something like "Hey we can finally approach parity with our competition and scoop up the demographic who play COD/Fifa/2K/GTA/Fighters/WRPGs/Genshin/Fortnite etc"

Switch has already been my primary gaming device for a few years, but if this is all legit then I'll never need to buy another home console again.

It better be backward compatible with Switch 1 games, hopefully with automatic enhancements. Will Nintendo's legendary greed allow them to throw us gamers that bone?

No one is saying it's going to be a PS5. If Switch 2 can at least crawl to PS4 levels and have DLSS attempt to bridge the gap that's all they need. It just needs to be 'good enough.'

Well if no one is saying that it is going to be a PS5 then read my post as an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. lol.

And they don't need to bridge any gap. They just need to make a great system that people want to buy and great games.

Power is only part of that equation. And what's funny is power is the most certain and known aspect of the next Switch. We know it's going to be a nice leap from we have. We know it's not a PS5. Yet everyone wants to seemingly nail the amount of power down to some exact number for some reason. When we all know that it's going to be "good enough" (to borrow your phrase.) By we, I mean anyone who has been around the block a few times on these matters and has some horse sense and some general knowledge in these matters.

These "rumors" and speculation are why the internet fanboys end up raging and crying upon reveal, it happened with Wii, Wii U,Switch and it will happen again on Switch 2 (no matter how well designed the actual system is)

it's not going to be a PS5. Only the uneducated believe that. PS5 is huge, noisy, puts out a lot of heat, is plugged into the wall and is $500 still.

Seriously?! Both of the PS5's in my house are dead silent even under the heaviest loads! Also, it is good that it puts out a lot of heat, that means the fans and heatsinks are doing their jobs, would you rather have all the heat just stay inside the console?!

Why isn't The Matrix demo working on PS5 and Series consoles anymore? When trying to boot it up all I get is the message "Connection failed" and "Loading construct Environment". Did Epic bring it offline for good? Why would they do that? I know it had been delisted from the store, but those of us who had already downloaded it could still played it. Well, it seems not anymore...

Well you missed the point there Clark. The Switch is a small handheld.
