Nioh 3 will be console exclusive to PS5 for 6 months

Or is it just one of Adam's balls in my throat?

So, full trilogy is coming to Xbox? What is the point of porting just third one?
If they were, koei wouldnt have waited for this one to maximize profits, 3 games make no sense. Nioh 1&2 has great native ps5 port package which I picked up, if Nio was to come to xbox, that was the time

Both Nioh have exclusivity deals with Sony, that is the reason until now they didn't port to other platforms

Xbox have Witcher 2 and Witcher 3. PlayStation only Witcher 3. Also, I could see Tecmo more interested on Switch than Xbox

Ok. If you check Nioh games on PSN, Sony isn't publisher for Nioh 3 anymore, just Koei. Maybe that's the reason why only Nioh 3 will be on other consoles

Why everyone assuming that this is coming to Xbox ? I'd say it's coming to switch 2 rather than Xbox

Knowing Koei engine it will be a miracle port. Anyway, negotiated exclusive window don't magically spawns a port after 6 months. It took years for FF7R to reach other console platforms, plus Xbox is dead and SW2 will be a challenge, knowing how CPU-taxing Team Ninja's engine is.

Isnt nioh the definition of a mediocre franchise anyway.
No, that's something like Hellblade. Nioh is just not beginner-friendly and has a ton of interacting mechanics that take a while to grasp, but once it clicks, it has the highest skill ceiling of any ARPG, rivaling some of the best straight-up action games on the market.

However, Team Ninja made the mistake of not making the level design or worldbuilding particularly engaging, which makes it tough to draw players in, because those elements are what are most likely to pull them in and encourage them to experiment.

Nioh is pretty fucking good though, especially Nioh 2.

Sony keeps doing this shitty deals to cover their lack of first party output.

They were doing the same when they had bunch of it, yes. First Nioh came out in 2017, a year when GT Sport, Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted Lost Legacy, Gravity Rush 2 were released, yes. And Nioh games are great. Deals aren't shitty.

I didn't expect it to go to other consoles at all to be honest. My guess is Switch 2, I don't see Xbox getting the game at all.

that was money thrown in the trash.its in steam and Only Japan will care .

The salt in this thread, oh man.

Publishers need to release games for every platform if they want to be profitable. And for those posters laughing at releasing this title, or any other, on XBOX claiming it's dead you should keep in mind this is not about releasing on XBOX Series but the XBOX platform, PC, Cloud, Portable devices such as Steam Deck or ROG/Lenovo/MSI, not to mention the next XBOX console.

But I know, console warring over and over

Not really, there are costs associated with porting a game to each platform and to publishing it. The more platforms, the more time and money is required for a studio and publisher to spend.
If a platform has a smaller player base, that means there is a greater risk of not seeing a return on investment.

There is also the issue with a loss of opportunity. A team has limited resources, be it manpower and time.
More platforms means more less time dedicated to polishing each platform.
So publishing a game on a platform with fewer players, means less time polishing and improving the game on the platforms that have more players.
And a more polished game tends to sell more.

I don't know why Sony even bothers with these console exclusivity deals at this point

Could be something that was locked in years ago, or maybe Sony has some sort of first right of refusal from the original Niou deal for all future Niou games.

It's the way they cope with their frustration at seeing others enjoy the games they used to brag about...

The funny thing is seeing them rule out any possibility when the background or case history says that the vast majority of those games (not licenced first-party Sony titles) eventually end up on Xbox at some point (even before the Switch 2 or even only launched on Xbox), yet there they are, using that trademark phrase... which then changes to "I don't understand why studios still bother releasing ports for Xbox" when the Xbox port of that game is announced. 🤷

I would imagine these deals we see now were struck years before so it makes sense. I can't see them making a new one as easily though unless they start seeing Nintendo as a threat.

Sony is being awfully stupid. Nobody at Xbox buy games, it has being already proven countless times that they move no numbers. They would rather lazily sit in their couches waiting everything to be on GP.

Guessing the price went way up on keeping these off Steam day 1

Since Sony also publish on PC, why would they give a shit?

Also people forget that Ni-Oh was first announced at E3 in 2005, so the original deal probably stretches back over 20 years!

The whole point of exclusivity deals is competitiveness on platforms and ecosystems that are jockeying for dominance. PC as an ecosystem just *is*. The release of a single title is inevitably a drop in the ocean, so its not a thing that can or needs to be protected against.

Sony have nothing to do now with 3rd Nioh. Koei alone is the publisher of the 3rd one now. It is obvious
