The best "outcome" of this, and sorry if someone said this somewhere else, is if Moore's Law is right about what Sony is trying to do with PS6 pricing - 500-600- then this would certainly help make people transition over a lot easier.

The new shiny thing is less than the old thing?

I recall PS4 pro was still 450 when PS5 launched. Not apples to apples, but similar.

Gonna clean my launch PS5 and pray it never dies.

It's pretty much at the price point of not being worth it to buy them now.

Normal considering the RAM and SSD increases, plus the price increase that the war in Iran is starting to cause and specially will cause due to the domino effect of different materials that travel via ships through that region, like oil, helium and others.

Pretty likely the other consoles and PC hardware will also see price increases. And pretty likely PS6 will increase its price again in less than a year or so if the war continues during more than a few weeks or months, which I assume pretty likely may be the case.

PC GPU, Memory, and CPU prices have increased over the past ~5 years. Not to mention the prices for food, gas, and everything else imaginable, yet we have braindead, "rent free" Marathon posts like these.......
I'm still scratching my head why bunch of members here saying "Sony greedy", "this happened because Sony has no competiton".... While everything else got price increase and now pretending they are shocked while this was expected sooner or later by Sony.

The effects of the Iran war continues on.. People thinking this is just about RAM are being very deluded.

Nintendo needs to do whatever the hell they can to hold at $450 because that's the only thing that will sustain Switch 2 sales.
Impossible.

Rising pricing is probably part of why Switch 2 production is reportedly getting reduced, when component pricing is high you need to make sure every unit produced sells.

I already said this a few pages ago, i think the price for the PS6 is going to be $599 and launching in 2027. Sony is done with the PS5 at this point, they are in a transition mode already.

They also need to make back what they're spending on Concord 3: Fairgame$, since that will release to a peak player count of about 50.

So the group that celebrates the most profitable generation ever for Sony is this a win for that group as well??

I still trying to process all this. Some people are expecting to the most profitable generation ever to increase the price because of what is happening in the world.

Is Sony know what is going on around the world for people or Sony only know what is going on around the world for themselves?

You expected a price increase on a five year console?
I think most rational people that have been watching what's happening in hardware have been expecting a price increase sooner rather than later and that includes Sony, Steam deck, Xbox, Nintendo etc. It doesn't matter how old the hardware is, If the parts it's using are going up by huge percentages all across the market with the future remaining uncertain, there's a limit how much cost all companies are going to absorb.

Sooooo. How y'all think GTA6 will run on a 9070XT in a few years when it launches on pc? Think I might just spend the 400-ish to upgrade to a 9000 series Ryzen since my motherboard is compatible.
Probably same ballpark as on PS5 Pro or better?

Yep, saw this coming and pulled the trigger on a Pro a couple of weeks ago for GTA 6 and have been really happy with it. That's a brutal increase though.

You expected a price increase on a five year console?

LOL. Yes. So? 4 years old PCIe Gen4 SSDs got price increase. Everything in this world got price increase. Basic grocery, house electronics, everything got price increase. And you expecting something 5 years old won't get a price increase? Really? In which world you are living?

This is probably based on component price hikes of the last year but we may see more inflation worldwide due to oil prices as well. Helium and other natural resources too.

So glad I got my pro at launch with the GameStop trade in for my regular ps5. Paid like $180 or some shit for it.

$900 is bananas.

RAM situation could get better soon

This is usual stock market wishful thinking.

Google published this article last April, it just went live in PR blog two days ago. This algorithm is already in use for a year and roughly as effective as DeepSeek MLA, that is 1.5 y.o.

On the broad horizon nothing will make supply chain better, but boy it will become worse after the emergency oil/LNG/gases like helium supplies dry out.

None of these companies care about you or your wallet.

I seriously can't wait for the inevitable crash coming. It'll give me time to hit my 100+ game backlog.
Oh... at this point, a crash is definitely needed. I fear that won't happen, though, because these chipmakers actually stand to make more from their AI clients than from most other OEMs.

Seemed obvious from the outset that the PS5 was priced too low at launch. Scalpers were able to make a mint because Sony left about $200 on the table, now they're finally six years later catching up with the times. Gone are the days were electronic anything gets cheaper with time.

AI bubble, oil price, multiple wars scattered around the world, desire to not disappoint investors when it's not strictly necessary to push hw sales at all costs when you got your back covered by 90+m users, are all factors that contributed to this outcome.

Personally this and PSSR2 have just added validation to my purchase of a Pro at launch but these prices suck.
People will react by not buying consoles at RSP anymore.
I expect sales will now become more and more focused when they do promotions, basically once every three months. Promotions that will basically cancel these price increases for 2-3 weeks.

About PS6...well the 599 launch price is dead and it's crazy that the PS3 launch price now would be considered a steal :messenger_grinning_sweat:
I guess that PS6 will be treated basically like PS5 Pro 2 and the handheld the PS5 portable.
You aren't selling 800+$ consoles to 100 million users.

lmao

And we saw some Sony fans saying "who's going to buy a $1,000 console" referring to the next Xbox... it's almost there, karma is real lol

I've been following the console gaming industry since the late 80s... even with all the crazy shit like 3D0, Jaguar, Sega bailing, etc... it's never been as dire as it is right now. It's nearly unbelievable that the new initial buy-in for a game console is now $600... thats a fucking iPad at this point. If there is no dad or mom in the family that likes video games you are going to have generation(s) of kids who grow up without game consoles.
I've been here since the 80s too, and when adjusting inflation several consoles of the last century were considerably more expensive than $600 of today

If you can't follow basic and simple logic, there's no point continuing this discussion.

People living in Canada, paying in Canadian dollars, do not care about exchange rates in everyday situations.

No one walks into a store, sees a price of $1,250 CAD, and thinks, "That's only $800 USD!" That's not how real-world spending works.

The only number that matters is the price in the currency you're actually using.

Jesus christ.
If we are talking affordability then I would agree. Someone being paid CAD $100K and paying $1000 for a console would feel more pain than a person from US paying $700 on USD $100K salary.

It is irrelevant from the currency conversion perspective as Canadians are getting paid in CAD $ and not in USD$. It would be the same for someone living in say Japan or Poland.

At the same time manufacturing cost for a PS5 Pro does not change due to weaker CAD currency hence the higher price in Canada.

When will you guys understand that Fake Fake and Saber Saber are genuinely, clinically retarded, lol

Please save me from this hell, Valve. Please save me.
Hell is taking them.

They're cooking you, but I do think you're onto something here. This is something people also don't understand in relation to Japan.

Guys I don't know why you're complaining. Poor Hermen in PSHQ in Commiefornia needs a new boat. You don't want to deny him, do you?
1. Hermen Hulst sure as hell wasn't part of this decision.
2. "PSHQ in Commiefornia" when Japan is the only place to not have a hike on the starting price of the console is LOL.
3. They're not exactly making any more money from this. The console is simply more expensive to make thanks to normoids like you eating up your AIslop and ChatGPT.

There was no way the Playstation 6 was going to be at $599. Not with the Pro originally being $699.

Hold onto your butts, people! PS6 will probably start at $799.

I believe it's Phil who said that. The next Xbox from what I understand is expected to be 1200+ and that number is only increasing as the world keeps going to shit.

If you don't live under a rock than yes it is to be expected. When certain components in the device have triple or quadrupled in price sooner or later you're going to have to pay for it. Companies are not going to sell at a loss.
