Sony hikes up PS5 pricing in April: PS5 – $649.99, PS5 Digital Edition – $599.99 PS5 Pro – $899.99, Portal $249.99

Hopefully no one buys. As always, people can speak with their wallets. They get away with this stuff, because sales stay consistent.

I was accused of spreading FUD when I brought this up in another thread but I will say it again, I highly doubt PS6 launches next year unless things change a lot
To be fair when you have other people like Kepler saying the opposite it's hard to believe. On top of that delaying it for what? There's no guarantee anything changes in a year or even two years. They could delay it only to have to increase the price even more. There's a very real possibility the the war only get worse and prices only have to increase even more.

Don't they usually do a sale around E3 time? Could we see a $499 PS5 DE and a PS5 Pro being $750 for that sale?

Oh not asking people to believe me and at this point if Kepler says they are on track I believe what he says

I just do not believe we are getting a PS6 next year, we will see

$120 GTA 6

Sony should cancel any launch plans for ps6 for next year, if they haven't already

I highly doubt it would be less than 1000$ in the current environment and goodbye to sales if they launch at that price.

Wonder when Xbox and nintendo will announce their price increase

They already did and everyone laughed at them for it.

This is just Sony catching up.

The only reason I believe kepler is because a delay doesn't guarantee anything. Not only does it not guarantee lower prices it could just lead to them having to increase it even more which is what has been happening with the PS5. If we knew a delay would lead to lower prices in a year or so then I could understand it but now it's just a guessing game.

I don't like it, but it's probably gonna be profitable for them. They have little to no competition in the home-only console market, and Nintendo despite a great hardware seems dedicated to perform its usual bag fumbling figure by not releasing games. With GTA 6 releasing later this year and component prices through the roof, they have the perfect excuse to squeeze a bit more of the juice.

I knew I shouldn't sell my PS5 to get the Pro. I also recently bought a second SW2.

I need to upgrade my MacBook Air soon.

That makes zero sense, and you're only saying that out of the idea that adoption rate is going to be slow from the PS6 generation onwards. It's up to Sony for that to not be the case.
You are so sure ps6 is coming next year if it doesnt we'll have to put you in hibernation chamber and wake you when it finally does. :)

Glad everything I care about is either cross gen or on PC proper

If PS5 had exclusives that I would actually care about (3D Dot Game Heroes 2, Motorstorm 4, New Wipeout maybe a nice SSX 4K Collection) my wallet would be super empty

but if they are just going to put out boring crap and jack up the price I can safely ignore it....they should double it in 2027 for the lulz

Seeing what we are seeing how is it not going to be the case? Magically the ps6 is going to be less than the ps5 now?

I changed your post to address my current situation.

I've already had to get creative to keep enjoying this hobby at its current pricing models. The further this increases, the more I'm going to end up squeezed out and stuck with this generation and retro-only games. I was hoping, at some point, to get a PS5 Pro and a disk drive and ride that well into next generation but with this price increase that's no longer possible. I can't just run out and buy a PS5 Pro or a Switch 2 (I mean, I could, but it would be a significant hit to our savings that I would prefer keeping around for emergencies). To get a PS5 Pro, I'd pretty much have to sell both my current base PS5 and my XSX, and that would still likely leave me short.

This shit sucks and I don't just mean the gaming price increases. This last year it seems like everything has spiked. Utility bills, car and homeowners insurance, medical deductibles and copays.
There IS a point where you'll simply price out the average consumer. You don't sell 100m consoles on the backs of a handful of whales. Discretionary income is drying up for many/most and tough times are ahead. And the way this world is going, there's always some existential crisis on the horizon fucking shit up, especially since 2020. Rest assured, by the time the A.I RAM thing has sorted itself out in a few years, so other bullshit will be going on.

Not sure why you always make that personal for some weird reason, but it will make no difference to release it next year or in 2029.
Oh, and a delay will result in heavy losses for them, btw, which could actually lead to less significant subsidizing compared to the 2027 plan.

If they take a hit, it could be not that much more expensive (say, $700 for the DE). People out there are predicting $1000-1050 prices, ffs.

Is Sony retarded? They already have the lead in the console market, yet you're pricing everyone out. If they're putting the PS5 Pro at nearly £800, the PS6 is more than likely going to be at least £850. I'm sorry, but your general audience is not paying nearly £900 for a console. The thing is that it's not even a little increase, it's roughly a £80 increase on the PS5 Pro, which was already overpriced.

These gaming companies are getting out of hand. This might be the dumbest decision Sony has ever made.

Because there is no competition.

I don't think this is a major reason. The competition, as lacking as it is, has also been jacking up prices. The base PS5 will now be the exact same price as the base Xbox Series X just as they had been at launch. Both of them launched at $499 and now both of them will be $649. If Xbox had a "pro" model, it would probably be $899 too.

Ima stick with PS6 2030. These price hikes were obvious, props to Sony for holding off letting Xbox get slaughtered for price increases. Very smart move

Even at $700 if it hits it. You think a $700 DE is going to move gangbusters after the early adopters, with $80 a year psplus if staying the same which and $80 games?

Right now the 2 TB Series X, a dead product, has a $800 price tag.....

So much great competition....

People will buy stuff until their credit line runs out, then they won't. For a lot of people that line has been reached now, though.

The path we're headed towards is full commoditization of gaming. Remote play eventually becomes default. Eventually PC will get swallowed too, and having your own pc at some point will be like retro stuff today, in a round-about way.

Prices aren't going back down for consumer hardware.
