Pulled wholesale from the purple place 'cuz I'm kinda lazy right now.

As Microsoft gets ready to overhaul its struggling Xbox gaming unit, it hasn't ruled out spinning out or restructuring the unit as a wholly-owned subsidiary, which could make it easier to sell, or creating a joint venture with other partners, according to three people with direct knowledge of the discussions.

Microsoft doesn't have any imminent restructuring plans, but those options are on the table, the people said.

In particular, Xbox will move faster on developing new games from beloved franchises it owns, including Halo, Fallout and Elder Scrolls, the people said. Fallout and Elder Scrolls are two particular areas of focus for Sharma

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood have approved of Sharma's plan to spend more on top-tier games in the coming fiscal year beginning in July, although the budget is not yet locked in and could change, the people said.

Nadella and Hood haven't ruled out restructuring Xbox's relationship to Microsoft at some point in the future if doing so would make Xbox a more successful business, the people said. Options on the table could include making Xbox a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft, a joint venture or spinning out Xbox entirely, the people said.

Microsoft operates LinkedIn and GitHub as wholly owned subsidiaries, which could serve as one potential blueprint for Xbox, one of the people said.

What's one more Xbox thread, really? This sounds like a recent development, not a rehash of the old rumors from years back in the Myerson years.

I say they spin it off to SEGA. Always had more heart in the game anyway.

Sharma's plan could put Xbox on track to spend more on game development in the coming fiscal year, which starts in July, than it did in the current fiscal year, two of the people said. At the same time, Sharma is planning to cut costs in Xbox's less-popular game studios, which could make its overall game development budget roughly flat year over year, one of the people said.
No matter what it won't change that much lol.

Basically Asha is there for some positive PR as Microsoft tries to get rid of the brand all together. She's there to cut sume costs and try to make it a better brand to sell later. All this positive spin is to make it look better once those layoffs hit in a few days / weeks.

The brand has value, however damaged it may be. Someone would be interested. Could be a ploy to get Xbox partially off the books too if they sell a large enough stake.

If they are going to do any of that, do this one.

Good that Microsoft have realised their management is the disease plaguing Xbox.

I guess that one guy gaf hates was right. That Asha will have to fight the Microsoft itself for Xbox to succeed.

Why the fuck would Valve want to buy the Xbox hardware division? I mean, whoever buys it would basically just get the (damaged) brand recognition.

Nah. Xbox is worth fuck all at this point.

Activision, Bethesda and some IPs like Forza Horizon are attractive to potential buyers though.

Sony joint venture with Saudi or tencent to own and run xbox.

Green team will be having nightmares for years.

So what the hell is going on? If this was going on, why did they even bother with that showcase? Did the Xbox division just go rogue and put a lot of shit out there without approval from Nadella and Hood? Was that showcase put out their as an attempt to make it attractive for acquisition?!

None of this makes ANY sense. I mean good lord. But then again almost nothing with Microsoft ever makes any sense.

It's always easy to believe negative news related to Xbox, but even this seems WAYYYY too soon.
