So, pre launch, everybody was talking about how the initial batch of games and cross-gen games would hit 1080p, but that in a year, devs would inevitably lust after more next-gen effects and such which would drive the resolution down to sub-1080p levels.
Are we still expecting this? Or do you think all the fallout from "resolutiongate" will persuade devs to strive for 1080p at the cost of extra bells and whistles?
Sony wants their games to be 1080p period. This is a company that has 4k TV's with 4K mastered Blu-ray movies from Sony studios on display in stores. They're making a push for 1080p to be standard resolution for this gen.
If it's not on standby, there's no way to turn it on remotely either. Same deal as PS3.Thanks, but it's powered off right now. I'm still trying to figure out the whole standby situation. IS there a way to turn off the PS4 once it finishes downloads (like in PS3?)
Do not underestimate the importance of native resolution on LCD's. PS3/360 look better on 720p native displays for this reason.
Yoshida already said they weren't going to force devs to use a specific resolution, and it would be considered on a game by game basis. Sony wants pixel matching as much as possible.
You are quite funny. Take that show on the road and make some real money.
It's a 1080p patch folks, the differences are immediately noticable on my 70" TV.
Let's do a blind test to see if you can see it:
Damn. Looks so much fucking cleaner. Big difference, IMO. Especially gaming on a PC monitor. Shame I just can't get into this AC for some reason
HD CRT's have the best image quality and motion, and not as finicky with image retention as plasmas. Only drawback is they're massive and not made anymore.Absolutely, and that why I haven't gone LCD/Plasma yet, HD-CRT ftw. ;P
I have no idea what the Thread title is supposed to mean/imply...
I'll pay attention to this game now that it's actually finished.
For someone who didn't like AC1, barely touched AC2, and ignored the rest of the franchise, how would this hold up for a series newcomer? Has it dropped a lot of story baggage from the previous games?

The difference is really obvious. How can the media keep saying 1080 doesn't matter and there is no visible difference b/w 720 vs 900 vs 1080. Come on!
Even if it's post launch, it's good to see developers putting in the effort.
the whole game is filling up bars of one type or another, now you can do it in 1080p, why are so many people missing this -__-
Console has built-in screenshot capability.
Not a single screenshot posted since patch went up.
I've not played an AC game since AC2. Is this worth getting with my PS4 at launch?
Is the patch 1.02 or 1.03? My game is downloading but playable yet still says 1.02.
1.03
Well considering they were calling it 1080p all along without mentioning a patch...
1.03
Pretty sure it's 1.02.

And still there are people who say they can't see the difference between 720p and 1080p..
It's actually kind of nice that this was patched solely because people can now see the differences. It's so much cleaner now and while the game is still not the best looking game out there, it's impressive in some areas.
Well, for those of us with eyes who aren't trying to downplay resolution as if it's only coming up because of the console war even though it existed all last gen with games like RDR where the difference was noticeable as well and was even mentioned in a lot of reviews...You know, those same reviewers that say there's no differences now? Yea, those guys.
For third party games absolutely. I think first party exclusives will all aim for 1080p though. Only exception are The Order and games from Quantic Dream which opt for black bars while keeping the pixel density of 1080p.Yoshida already said they weren't going to force devs to use a specific resolution, and it would be considered on a game by game basis. Is Sony refusing to TCR games that render in 720p? Source?
