George Kamitami wants to port all the Vanillaware games to PC but it’s not up to him

Sorry, no-denuvo is completely unnegotiable 🤷‍♂️.

Consider it on the same category as you wanting a physical version

Odin Sphere is an all time great. It's criminal that there's a huge section of younger gamers that've never heard of it or played it.

Port Dragons Crown as well and they'd be revered as gods by a whole new generation

I wonder if Devil Blade Reboot somehow paved the way for this to happen.
I bought the game literally just to give money to someone from Vanillaware and to leave a review saying as much. I like to think someone in the decision making process saw it. probably not

I'm also planning to buy Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle which is from another person that worked at Vanillaware.

Remember that Dragon's Crown DLC we never got?

Well now we are getting something similar
By all means, please don't stop sharing ex-Vanillaware employee new games or Vanillaware-like indies. I could use some more to wishlist and purchase.

I remember buying this because I heard about some similarities to Muramasa:

And this one was fun too:

Regardless...

Arenanet (Guild Wars devs) finally letting go of their 'No console/controller ever!' stance and then Kamitami(Vanillaware) finally letting go of the 'No PC ever!' stance, both in the same year...

Guild Wars Reforged was released a few months ago and has controller support.

Having played FFXI back in its heyday, I'm all for MMOs with controller friendly control schemes. GW2 has some ground targeting you could work around with the Steam Deck's touch pads, but they still weren't the ideal input method.

IMO the big issue with GW3 is it's a buy to own game. We'll see if console players need to subscribe to PS+ or XBOX Live to play. Other MMOs with paid subs didn't need it. But the Guild Wars games have always been buy once play forever, with expansions being their own thing. Hopefully they work out a deal with the Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo that doesn't screw the players, but I doubt it. I'd wager they will require a sub.

Is there a source for this? Because this is what I remember:

Article:
As a publisher, we would like to deliver it to PC users as well, but per our agreement with Vanillaware, we are only releasing it on consoles. In other words, there are no plans to port it to PC currently."
I tried finding it myself, but it was a JP article and from over 2 years ago, so I'm not having much luck.

God damn I hope it happens, because I'll buy all of em. No one makes games that play or look like theirs.

Unicorn Overlord would probably sell the best since strategy RPGs usually do well on PC, and probably 13 Sentinels since visual novel-esque stuff tends to do well too.

GrimGrimoire would also be cool, because it's anime Harry Potter x side-scrolling RTS.

Dragon's Crown with a healthy online population again is my dream. I had so much fun playing co-op in that game.

More people need to play that game, its surprisingly fun and Once More version add lot of quality of life which made the experience much more smoother compare to PS2 version.

Yep, Dragon's Crown would be cool as well, especially for local multiplayer. A PC version would be easier to drive on the Steam Deck vs RPCS3 emulation, and just bring that over to friend's place with some controllers over bluetooth.

I'd assume on PC they could do Steam Remote Play together, so even if the servers shut down in the future you could still easily peer to peer the game.

Yep, I'd hope all of their games that get ported come from the better versions released later, like the Leifthrasir version of Odin Sphere.

Ok so VW employee's indie games gets Overwhelmingly Positive reviews —> I imagine the employee showed Kamitani their bank account —> Kamitani finally understands the potential?

Or maybe it was the fear of people copying assets and making TEMU VW that held them back, but now AI can make TEMU VW just by scraping the internet so there is no need to hold back on the ports

I like Dragon's Crown and love PSO but how are these games anything alike?
Dungeoncrawling, lootfarming, leveling, solo or full co-op play and of course multiple difficulty modes.

PSO- Normal, Hard, Very Hard, Ultimate Endgame level cap of 200.

Dragon's Crown-Normal, Hard, Infernal, Ultimate Endgame level cap of 255

Times have just changed.

RPG Site: When I played The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy- on PC and Switch pre-release, I was very impressed with the PC port. I'm currently still playing it on Steam Deck trying to get all the endings. How do you feel about the international Steam release as your last major title launched exclusively on Nintendo Switch with Rain Code.

Kazutaka Kodaka: The market is dominated by PC now. Releasing worldwide on Steam is essential.

RPG Site: Speaking of platforms, I know you have mentioned it before, but has there been any movement on potential PS5 or Xbox ports?

Kazutaka Kodaka: Not considering anything at the moment.

RPG Site: It made sense to prioritize Switch and Steam for this one. Are there any plans for a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade like we just saw for Shuten Order? I ask this because the game is a bit rough on Switch compared to PC and it would benefit a lot from faster loading with better visuals and performance on Switch 2.

Kazutaka Kodaka: We'd like to consider that as well.

It's still wild to me that we'd see a day where Japanese devs said PC was essential, when the biggest reason I owned consoles growing up was largely just to get access to Japanese games.

Vanillaware was the last major hold-out I cared about, and now even that's starting to happen.

100%, you still have Nintendo doing their own thing releasing a new title about once a month. But Sony's 1-2 exclusives a year is gonna be an issue.

We have all the mainline Final Fantasies. Yakuzas, and soon Metal Gears. Japan still has unfriendly copyright/derivative works laws. I wonder what the first Japanese game that really takes advantage of what's possible with Steam Workshop ends up being.

Sega will get it done eventually and I am 100% confident in this. Cannot wait to buy all these games again lol.
Everything I see is always Vanillaware struggling with funding. If the full catalog gets ported over, I could see them being funded for the next decade just by people rebuying them yet again. And that would be a good final push for any other holds out.

Palworld has workshop support

This probably doesn't need to be said, but anyone who wants to see the back catalogue ported to PC should vote with their wallet and support Muramasa. I know it's a different publisher, but if Sega/Atlus sees the money coming in for Marvelous, this will be a no-brainer for them.

Plus it's a great game anyways.
This. If PC gamers buy Muramasa day 1, it'll happen.

Sony seemed to make their choices going hard into high-budget AAA content since PS4, and then into live-service games this gen. Both of which operate at budgets and team sizes that not many Japanese studios can scale to, and they take longer to make so the release cadence declines. Nintendo was smart to go lower budget, and having a portable system makes sense for selling to their own country.

Unless Sony rebuilds some Japanese partnerships next gen when they do that handheld, I would imagine Switch + PC will be the primary platforms Japanese developers target.

Given Pocketpair's success with supporting mods, it's probably going to keep happening, and maybe the turning point will be one when a smaller Japanese dev gets funded by a larger Japanese publisher, and they see the long-tail revenue benefits of supporting mods. That or some kind of mod ruleset comes in from Japanese devs that compromises enough for their copyright law culture.

Japan slowly and hesitantly moving away from PlayStation exclusivities and start investing on PC seems like something a lunatic would have said 20 years ago, but that's just proof of how non-Japanese PlayStation has become in the last 2 console generations.

Would love physical editions of Dragons Crown and Odin Sphere on Switch 2 but I'll buy them on Steam if they come over there instead. Vanillaware is one my favorite devs and I'll support them no matter what.
It will probably be a gamekey card if it ever comes to switch 2
