Brussels attack: Man shot after stabbing troops

A man has been shot dead after attacking two soldiers with a machete in the centre of Brussels.

Soldiers have become a familiar sight on the streets of the Belgian capital since terror attacks which killed more than 30 people last year.

Belgium's federal prosecutor's office said the attacker was "not known for terrorist activities" but said that he had shouted "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest" in Arabic) during the assault.

The attack on Friday is being treated as a terrorist incident, the prosecutor's office said.

Another terrorist using a knife attack, but going after troops instead of civilians. No surprise it's yet another male.

After the attack was stopped, he was taken to hospital, where he is said to have died. Authorities are treating this as an isolated incident and have not changed Belgium’s terror threat level, which is currently at level three, the second highest level, which indicates a “serious and real” threat, but not an imminent attack.

Two months ago, authorities foiled a suspected terror attack on Brussels central station, where a man was shot, after causing a small explosion. In March 2016, 32 people were murdered and more than 300 injured in coordinated attacks at Brussels airport and the city’s metro.

No change to threat level and isolated incident.

Y'know what? Atheism MIGHT not be the solution for the problem of straight up wanton murder, but it definitely eliminates a lot of the excuses.

These days, smaller events like this no longer hang about in the news for long. It's almost as if they are viewed in the same vein as an unfortunate weather event - it just happens. The Buckingham Palace terror incident here in London has already been forgotten. The Mayor of London said his bit: "London stands more united than ever" (utter bollocks) and everyone's moved on. It really is becoming the norm.
