Cannabis to be available on NHS from November 1

Doctors will be able to prescribe cannabis products to patients as early as next month, Sajid Javid has announced.

The Home Secretary said they will start handing out the prescriptions from November 1.

The new rules apply to England, Wales and Scotland, and follow several high-profile cases, including that of young epilepsy sufferers Alfie Dingley and Billy Caldwell, whose conditions appeared to be helped by cannabis oil.

Setting out the new regulations regarding cannabis-based products for medicinal use, Mr Javid said: ‘This brings these products explicitly into the existing medicines framework.

‘These regulations are not an end in themselves. The ACMD (Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs) will be conducting a long-term review of cannabis and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) has been commissioned to provide advice for clinicians by October next year.

‘The Government will monitor the impact of the policy closely as the evidence base develops and review when the ACMD provides its final advice.’

Alfie’s mother, Hannah Deacon, said: ‘Today is a momentous day for every patient and family with a suffering child who wish to access medicinal cannabis.

‘We urge the medical world to get behind these reforms so they can help the tens of thousands of people who are in urgent need of help.

‘I have personally seen how my son’s life has changed due to the medical cannabis he is now prescribed.

‘As a family we were facing his death. Now we are facing his life, full of joy and hope, which is something I wish for each and every person in this country who could benefit from this medicine.’

Professor Mike Barnes, the medical cannabis expert who secured the first long-term licence for its use for Alfie, said: ‘This announcement has transformed the position of the UK in this exciting and developing field.

‘Many of my medical colleagues are understandably unsure about the benefits.

‘After all, medical cannabis has been illegal in the UK for generations. But I urge them to embrace these developments.

‘Compared to many pharmaceutical drugs, whole plant medical cannabis products are remarkably safe and, as recent high-profile cases have shown, can produce dramatic improvements for patients.’

An initial review by chief medical adviser Dame Sally Davies concluded that there is evidence medicinal cannabis has therapeutic benefits.

The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD), which carried out the second part of the review, then said doctors should be able to prescribe medicinal cannabis provided products meet safety standards.

Never thought the NHS would implement something like this... how odd.

Well I suppose they need to start looking at certain things and give it a go!

Can't wait for hundreds of people to rock up to their local pharmacies complaining about Insomnia. Just legalise the fucking stuff already, you're not preventing anything currently and it's basically decriminalised in England at this point. You can head through Leeds city center on a busy Saturday and find plenty of people openly smoking joints. The police generally don't care, it's the drunks causing all the trouble.

"Regulate like Alcohol" is on the ballot for my state although we already allow for medical use. It's also decriminalized in several cities so legalization is almost entirely a rubber stamp at this point for the sake of regulating distribution.

It'll be legal in Western countries within 10 years. Our laws have been such a stain on our justice system and a drain on our resources. Legalizing it for medical use is a pointless speed-bump that only lines people's pockets.

Ahh, Washington DC. I like having an app on my phone where I can have flower, concentrates and edibles delivered with a smile. I had a delivery driver that was late once by 10 minutes due to a minor accident and they gave me two free pre-rolls for my time, and I’m talking a gram and a half cone with keef mixed in. It took me two days to finish the first one 😂

so awesome. medical marijuana has wonderful healing properties & i far prefer it being used by people over the more dangerous pill based solution.

im living in the Bible belt, you still can't buy alcohol on sunday mornings, so we will probably get legal weed after everyone else in the world gets it first =)

Can't do that in NYC either. So if you think you're going to have hangover, stock up on Saturday night.

I look forward to legalization because I know I'm getting ripped off by my service. But they will give you a free bag if you save 5 of the same flavor... they never have the same flavor, so I have empty bags all over the place.

I lived in Germany for 7 years, no weed but the hash was good quality, no hash in the UK?
Hash is easy to get. Good hash isn't, at least where I lived/have lived.

I wonder how you even get in on investing in MJ.

Like what, do you wait for a company to become public?

I opened an E*Trade account and started buying shares in August - as long as your broker doesn't block you from purchasing (Wells Fargo did this for example), it's the same as buying stock in any other company.

Very interesting. Thanks.

I have a TD account. I need to look into this.

We are 5 days away from legalization. Its odd because it doesn't feel like things are going to change much aside from being able to buy it at a government dispensairy and cops not arresting you for having some weed on you. At least where I live there is a ton of pushback about making it illegal to smoke in all sorts of places, but we also have very harsh cigarette rules.

either way its about time that the stupid war on weed ends. How much money was lost by governments around the world over the last 100 years or so.

You'll be able to buy marijuana with a credit card - if you stop and think about that for a minute it might make a little more sense as to why this is a major deal.

Cool. It's the first step to ending the stupid laws against marijuana. I don't really smoke it much but I like the idea that one day hash yoghurt will be available in Asda

U.S needs to completely legalize already

it's ridiculous how people in Cali have been using cannabis freely for nearly a year ... when places like Texas have little to no hope...

I actually do not mind some regulation on where you can smoke.

Even though I partake, I don't really like smelling other people's shit in public. Keep it indoors in your home.

I dont disagree with it either. Weed does smell and its unfair to have it smelling up around especially near schools or churchs/synagogs/mosques/temples etc...

Its just ironic that a lot of smokers I know think/thought once its legal it will be open game, but actually once its legal there will probably be more and more restrictions and legislation.

And BTW once its legalized in more places Canibas is going to be slapped onto everything. Marketers will just slap canibas or hemp onto the end of their product to make a nice buck.

got any good ones to invest in?
If you're looking at Canadian companies, here's a few of the ones that I'm in and expect to boom next week:

ACBFF, CRON, MDTR, ALEAF

....if you wanna see the potential for growth, look at TLRY - a bit too volatile for me but I'll be watching it after the 17th.

ACBFF is being upgraded to the NYSE from the OTC exchange - if you wanted a single suggestion this one is probably the safest bet.

Brilliantly the obvious conflation of Cannabis oil derivatives and Cannabis itself has occurred in this very thread, leading to idiotic assumptions that smoking a drug that induces psychosis and leads to severe mental health issues, is ok.

Lol, you know I’m the type of cannabis user that can’t stand 420 culture and the type of person that acts like it’s a perfect drug with no negative aspects, but you’re statement here is no less myopic and inaccurate. There’s a happy medium.

The flowering phase for Girl Scout Cookies Extreme marijuana plants is a medium length, generally somewhere around 70 days in total. It has a high yield and high levels of THC, which additionally makes it a good choice for beginners to grow (since they will achieve some kind of success, almost no matter what).Girl Scout Cookies Extreme marijuana plants like warmth -- think Mediterranean climate. You can expect to get about 21 ounces of marijuana per plant for outdoor plants, and 21 ounces of marijuana per square meter for indoor plants.
