Diablo Immortal currently banned in China (Possibly due to a Winnie the Pooh comment by a Blizzard employee)

On May 22nd, a rogue employee from Blizzard posted this (TL: Why has the pooh not stepped down yet) on weibo. Weibo has a site function that shows where you're posting from, and it says that the post is made from an American IP.

The Diablo Immortal official account got banned shortly afterwards (a ban on weibo is essentially a mute where you cannot post anything), and all discussion about the issue is heavily censored by the platform because it touches on anti-CCP issues.

Some time later, they took down all posts mentioning the release date on all their social platforms and main site. Two days ago, they announced that Diablo Immortal will be delayed to July 8th for the Asia Pacific region, and yesterday they announced that the CN version will be delayed indefinitely until further notice.

If true that is the funniest shit in 2022 so far.

Blizzard hasn't been sucking massive Chinese cock for nothing all these years. They'll find a way to make this work. Just look how quickly they shat all over Taiwan when Blitzchung took a stand in 2019. I'm sure they've got liaisons working overtime to crack that particular nut.

All the obvious considerations about censure and totalitarian government aside, I will never NOT find hilarious how fucking touchy the Chinese leadership can be (and often the Chinese audience, too).

It genuinely feels like they are ready to take offense and throw an hissy fit over the most trivial bullshit.

…And then pretend it’s a serious matter of national pride, somehow.

He should be flattered. Winnie the Pooh was likable and wasn't a genocidal maniac. Although that would have made the books and cartoons more interesting I guess.

'Pooh... How on earth could you slaughter Piglet, Tigger, Kanga, Roo, Owl and Rabbit!?

'Because, Eyore, you fucking DONKEY, they weren't part of the master bear race and there's only enough honey for the chosen few. Also they compared my likeness to that of a children's book cartoon character'

'But Pooh, you are a children's...'

'Finish that sentence, motherfucker. I bear you to say it again, pun intended... Bear comrades, seize him!'

'Why Pooh, why did you ever sign up to NeoGaf!? This isn't you.'

'Silence! Now... where's Christopher Robin hiding, the little bitch?'

Maybe the daily wire will create it!

So they delayed entire asia pacific release because they called a Chinese leader winnie the pooh. It sounds more like their legal team needs to check a few things because they were having issues releasing there to begin with. might even explain why the Netease/Blizzard employee asked when winnie the pooh is stepping down a month ago. They are having issues releasing their mtx riddled game in the region.

Get Rekt. Blizzard kept their mouth shut during the free Hong Kong movement when players were getting banned expressing the desire of a people to live outside of tyranny.

Blizzard has had an awful position on China, I hope they get burned. I also hope the Chinese people get freedom from their tyrannical government during our lifetime.

The Chinese glass heart is famous.
A smart guy would have embraced the meme, said it was charming and that would have been the end of it. Instead they went nuclear level Streisand.

ha, there goes their targeted market.
Can`t say I don`t like this.
They`ve bent over for so long in front of the CCP, it was about time they got some....

Imagine having a great job at Blizzard as social media manager

All you have to do is to post some stuff to hype people, keep them engaged .... Just that. Easy.

And then you decide to call the leader of China as Winnie The Pooh during your job, royally fucking the game you are promoting and the company as a whole

While there are tons of decent people unemployed, we have this idiot right here having a job (well, had)

Is this real? Is this why Winnie the Pooh is banned in China?

Yeah, it all escalated from this image.

I don't see why asia pacific has been delayed too though. It suggests they are having problems entering that market and the post asking when he is stepping down probably stems from their troubles they were having before the tweet.

It's amazing that it's the exact same steps on both guys lol. He does look very Winnie the Poohish right that too.

Still, imagine taking yourself so fucking seriously that you consider normal to establish a nation-wide ban for ANY media where the name "Winnie the Pooh" is mentioned.
What a fucking giant wanker.

Some new info I guess.
Guy was American or at least not posted it within China.
Affected Netease
Possibly affect licensing and game release going forward but Blizzard will probably just hook up with another publisher if Netease isn't capable.

Only thing new is the Netease part. The original post explained how he was from outside of China.

Whoever did it is probably in the forced labor camp with Pooh and Piglet.
