[Weekly software and hardware sales figures] "Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door" tops the charts for the second week in a row! With "Tokyo Psychodemic" also ranking, total Switch sales exceed 33 million units [5/27 - 6/2]

Sales rankings announced by Famitsu. Here is a summary of the estimated weekly sales figures for video games and hardware from May 27 to June 2, 2024.

Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door was a big seller again this week, selling 34,004 units. With a total of 149,653 units sold it has topped the charts for two consecutive weeks. This is an RPG in which Mario and his friends play a role as thin as paper, it is a remake of the title released for the GameCube in 2004. Various aspects have been improved such as improved graphics and the addition of new elements so we can expect continued sales in the future.

From second place onwards, there are a number of enduringly popular titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing : New Horizons and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Among them the one that is worth paying attention to is Tokyo Psychodemic: Special Investigation Case Files which ranked seventh.

It is an adventure game in which you solve the mystery of supernatural incidents by utilizing authentic scientific investigation tools and working with your friends. This new title is also attracting attention because it is directed by Akiyoshi Imai who has worked on the Tokyo Majin Gakuen Densetsu series and Kowloon Youma Gakuen Ki.

Meanwhile looking at hardware, the Nintendo Switch sales remain strong with cumulative domestic sales now exceeding 33 million units.

Man I am just so astounded at the state of the video game industry.

You have all these western devs spending the better part of a decade making some bloated AAA turd with a very high chance of flopping.

Meanwhile Nintendo is over here selling remastered Wii U games for $60 that dominate the sales charts throughout the console generation.

Thats what happens when you design amazing games, take good care of your prestigious brands and add worthwhile value

they knew Mario Kart 8 didn't reach its potential on Wii U, plus it was ambitious with gorgeous visuals when they made the portable version they just needed to expand on it with new stages and characters.but i don't think even Nintendo expected Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to be this big of a hit

Stellar Blade sold just shy of 100k copies at retail. Love to see it! Hardware sales also seem to be steady week on week.
Stellar Blade and Rise of Ronin are two of leggiest games on PS5. Good job Sony.

To be fair to third parties, it's not like they have a massive number of Wii U exclusives to port over.

Ps5 Is nearly 90 to 100 percent down YoY. That's insane.
The big hardware moving IPs / system sellers are now available on the platform. FF16, FF7, Yakuza, Resi and others.

Monster Hunter Wilds and and Dragon Quest 12 seem like 2025/26 games. So until them I think hardware sales will be more muted.

Or until there's a price cut.

Crazy that 3 of the games in the top 10 five years ago are still in the top 10 now.

Most PS5 games in the top 30 are first party.

Also there's a chance we could have two Luigi's Mansion games on a chart at the same time!

How does this stack up to Origami King? Cuz you better believe Nintendo’s gonna be looking at how it measures up. The old-school Paper Mario RPG game audience vs the modern/action Paper Mario audience.
