Fox News to Host Live Event With Bernie Sanders

A day before the Michigan primary on Tuesday, Senator Bernie Sanders will be the focus of a live one-hour, prime-time event in Detroit.

The host? Fox News.

Bret Baier announced on his “Special Report” show on Thursday night that the Sanders campaign had agreed to the town-hall-style broadcast. The Clinton campaign was invited, but “is unable to attend due to a conflict in her campaign schedule,” according to a release from the network.

While Mr. Sanders’s appearance on Fox News isn’t necessarily out of the ordinary – he sat for an interview with Chris Wallace in February on “Fox News Sunday” – the network’s decision to host a Democratic town hall is notable, given that it hasn’t put on a Democratic debate since 2004.

Last month, Mr. Baier pressed Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, to let Fox News host a debate.

She laughed at the prospect, giving little hope that such an event would ever take place.

“There aren’t a whole lot of Democrats who come on, and I always look forward to our conversations, Bret, look forward to sparring with you and some of your hosts all the way through the campaign,” Ms. Schultz said to Mr. Baier.

In his interview with Mr. Wallace, however, Mr. Sanders said he wasn’t opposed to the idea of a Fox town hall.

“If we were clear to understand what the guidelines were and what the rules were and to make sure that they were fair and the D.N.C. was in favor of it, I would have no objection,” Mr. Sanders said.

The town hall with Mr. Sanders will be broadcast at 6 p.m., Eastern time.

Bernie will play off Trump populist hype, his movement, where America is heading

Then he will demand Hillary release those paid speeches

This is awesome, Bernie supporters should get hype

Sure, why not? It'll be interesting to see how it goes. They're either going to go super easy on him or they're going to try and bait him into crazy Hillary shit, but everyone so worried here is hilarious. He'll be fine, he'll stump for an hour and it'll be done with.

This is gonna backfire spectacularly.
Backfire in what way? Will doom his chances of getting the nomination? Oh no, not that last 1%...

Bernie says he's trying to change politics. You can't do that just talking to one side, staying inside your own echo chamber.

I don't think it's that Fox wants him to win the nomination (if they do, they're extremely short-sighted), but rather they simply want the Dem nomination to be a protracted affair with lots of dirt being dug up on and slung at both of them (at this point, especially Hillary), and helping Bernie now is the only way to achieve it.

Tell me you aren't serious.

The irony here is...

WOW.

Whatever gives Bernie a voice, I'm happy

Weeeee

If it goes well for Sanders it'll be entertaining to see some of his supporters start talking about how Fox News is great unlike the rest of the bias mainstream media

They absolutely want the Vermont Socialist to get the nomination over Hillary Clinton. Absolutely.

Of course Fox wants Bernie to get the nomination. It's ok though none of the minorities who he needs to get will watch this

Sanders is just trying to improve his minority numbers. Considering how bad they are Stacy Dash voting for him by herself would have a noticeable impact.

Gaf hilary stans misconstrue attending a fox news townhall with being hired to work at fox news.

Lol of course they would condemn this.

Just when I thought our political process couldn't get any crazier this cycle.

Fair enough. And he will still destroy the Republican nominee, though.

Bernie will get all the Democrats and the new energised voters, and probably a swath of independents who like his outsider perspective. Hillary will maybe fare a little better with moderates, I guess.

Don't forget there were quite a few primary day news reports of voters who were actually struggling to decide between Bernie and Trump. Their choice becomes clearer when Hillary is the nominee.

Why would you want to appear on a network that this week admitted they were carrying water for Marco Rubio?

Riiiiiight. A "conflict." In her "campaign schedule."

Why not? At this stage it's more about spreading his message and trying to dictate the conversations going forward than actually winning the nomination. He has nothing to lose.

They're not going to just have him hold a dartboard and have the moderators throw darts at him for an hour, are they?

Bernie should be very careful because this could very easily backfire.
Eh, if anything this just portrays him as willing to talk to and work across the aisle, something the HillaryGals have baselessly accused him of being incapable of... and if anything this will only backfire for Fox News.

Aren't they going to bait him to try and make him loose his cool? I don't believe they will let him talk at all.
Did you watch the FNS interview with CW? He handled it extremely well. He's extremely skilled at deflecting and calling out stupid biased questions.
