Claw 8 AI+: The World's First Windows 11 Gaming Handheld with Intel® Core™ Ultra processor (codenamed “Lunar Lake”)​

Since its debut at CES, MSI's gaming handheld Claw has been a market highlight. Building on its success, MSI unveiled the world's first Windows 11 gaming handheld powered by Intel® Core™ Ultra processors (codenamed “Lunar Lake”), Claw 8 AI+, at COMPUTEX, once again capturing the attention of gaming handheld fans worldwide.

In addition to the next-gen processor's improved energy efficiency, MSI has actively listened to user feedback and upgraded several hardware specifications accordingly, such as adding an additional Thunderbolt 4-supported USB-C port, enhancing the tactile feel of the LB/RB buttons, increasing battery capacity, and replacing the charger with a lighter wall-mounted charger. Apparently MSI is also releasing a limited edition Fallout edition for the first MSI Claw.

"MSI and the renowned game studio Bethesda jointly launched the limited edition Claw x Fallout co-branded special edition at COMPUTEX. The entire exterior design is inspired by the game's Vaults, the Pip-Boys worn by Vault dwellers, and robots, making it a dream item for Fallout fans and players worldwide. With features like an excellent grip, the largest battery in the industry, superior cooling, and joysticks and triggers equipped with Hall effect sensors, the Claw featuring Windows 11 allows players to enjoy the Fallout series anytime, deeply experiencing the post-nuclear apocalypse atmosphere of the game."

No price or release dates yet. Don't get why they didn't do the Fallout edition for the newer Claw.

Get an nvidia GPU in here with DLSS and FG and you might have a winner.

I’m obviously referring to a stripped down GPU that has similar power limits to the AMD

It’s competing against other PC gaming handhelds, especially the Windows based handhelds. Same way gaming laptops are in competition with each other.

Nothing wrong with this approach. The consumer wins when there’s lots of choice.

The reaction to Lunar lake has been really good, and it promises better power management and a very significant GPU uplift. Meteor Lake was a bust, but it’s great to see another stab at an Intel alternative to the Strix Point handhelds that will be showing up later this year.

It's no different than multiple brands of TVs or anything else. All the GPU and PC brands will probably have a model before too long. Some will sell better than others.

These don't need to support their own ecosystem, as long as the brands aren't losing money on the devices there isn't really a "fail" state for these. Even buyers that purchase the least popular models will get the same benefits as anyone else, it's not like buying an Atari Jaguar for the consumers.

I feel like we need this fierce competition early on to ensure all the companies are pushing forward to make these a strong product.

I want an OLED Screen, hall effect sticks, VRR, 120 Hz at least 24GB and some stonking performance.

The more they throw out the less they will support the models people already paid for...

We see that a lot from Aya that seems to release a new device every other week and then forget they exist, we really don't need that from Asus, MSI or Lenovo.

Yeah.....reviews were pretty scathing even after all the updates and such. Really seemed like Intel was just desperate to get something out on the market. Hopefully this will perform better, but gotta wonder about the price. First one was already $800.

And yet people who bought RTX 3060 gaming laptops from Lenovo or Alienware years ago still get updates via MS/Nvidia/OEM. The delivery of RTX 4080 laptops in 2024 haven’t suddenly stopped the 3060 models from working.

If you mean MSi, not really. Intel will be throwing a stack of cash their way for getting a Lunar Lake powered handheld Into the market.

All I say is that it better match the ROG Ally X with 24GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, otherwise they might as well not bother.

The new Intel chipset is rumored to be quite a bit better so the device may turn out to be interesting.

The big question is battery life/ power consumption. And of course it needs to have proper specs and price.

Toward end of the year, it better have more than 16GB of RAM and preferably an OLED screen.

it seems everyone goes to shit in the washroom comes out with a new PC handheld.

i am sticking with Rog ally till the new AMD strix point is out.

anything in between is just a garbage upgrade if you already have a system.

Oh and the Zotac Zone is already a much better device than this or Rog ally x

Meteor whatever Intel crap did in their last attempt was so bad, that I don't think they could have made it worse if they tried to. But will need to see benches before I suspend any disbelief. Preferably ones from youtube channels I trust with the product in hand.

This. The OEMs don't necessarily need to directly support these, although they can by choice like Asus and Valve are doing. It's literally a PC, the makers of the chips should support those in drivers for quite some time after release and the OS should provide updates, etc. The standard for PC towers used to be a refreshed lineup every quarter, no one questioned whether they would lose support on the old models.

And most bigger vendors do support their laptop hardware for a few years with updates as well.

This is a relatively new type of device.

It's negative for the growth of the space when consumers are being exposed to poorly thought out and poorly engineered devices that will inevitably leave them with a negative first impression.

Lunar Lake is certainly not ‘in between’ now and Strix point.

Zotac Zone has 8Gb less RAM than the Ally X, > 40% smaller battery, native portrait screen (which can pose some issues with some games), no VRR and is even bigger than the Deck. I’m not sure how that translates to ‘much better’ than the Ally X.

People power through if the payoff is good. The Deck was VERY buggy at launch.

Most of these aren’t ’poorly Engineered’. Previews of the Ally X for example hail it as quite excellent engineering work.

We’ll definitely get even more entrants like Razer and Alienware down the line.

These new devices aren't competing with the launch deck, they are competing with what the deck is now.

Yeh previews of the original Ally were good as well and then when they ended up in consumers hands a ton of people had issues with them. Instead of Asus rectifying those issues for consumers who had spent their hard earned money they just swept it under the rug and announced a "new" device (which is basically a revision) where the issues are fixed.

Not surprised considering every man and their dog is jumping on the bandwagon without having the foggiest idea of what has made the Deck the success it has been.

What will be telling is how quickly most of these companies disperse from the space after they realise it's not as simple has throwing a few parts together and hoping for the best like they do with laptops (which they get away with because most laptop users aren't gaming or doing anything too strenuous on their devices).
