Should I buy an Xbox?

Build a PC. Start cheap but upgradable as your budget allows. A 5060ti/9060xt 16GB outperforms either console. Sell parts as you upgrade. It's a relatively cheap hobby even with the recent DRAM/NAND madness because resale values are high.

Get it and nab some physical 360/Series X discs on eBay while you're at it, while you still can!

I have a One X for playing all my BC 360 and OG Xbox discs. It's also a good media machine (4K Blu-ray , Plex + streaming apps)

Highly recommend, great way to play them and cloud saves are free (I don't have GP/XBL)

It's too late after all the (drastic) price increases. It was a great deal several years ago, you could have a nice cheap machine to run modern games or to emulate older titles (Series S).

series x with game pass ultimate will give you more than enough to play, you can get keys to buy xbox games cheaper than retail too.

Do you have the disposable income? Yes, continue - No, stop
Do you want an XBOX Series X? Yes, continue - No, stop
Do you want it to be white? Yes, continue - No, go black
Order/pick up your new console.

No idea what the Sony thing is about but it doesn't really matter if the question is about buying an XBOX.

If you're dead set on not going with Sony and you don't have a current generation console then the Series X is a great choice, despite what many others would tell you.

When you set aside the industry politics and exclusives (which you yourself are somewhat setting aside by immediately counting out Sony), Series X goes toe to toe with PlayStation and in some ways out does it in my opinion (multi-game Quick Resume is incredible and underrated). Games look and run great, and 3rd party support is pretty good these days aside from the occasional Japanese game that'll skip it, but that's been slowly getting better over the last decade.

Now honestly, is it worth how much they're asking for it now after its 3rd price hikes? Depends on how bad you want to game, but when consoles get more expensive so do PC parts, and if GTA is really what you're aiming for you're going to spend more money and more time getting it on PC than biting the bullet with an Xbox.

If the price is no burden, I'd say go for it. But if you can find a deal, even better. A very nice gaffer sold me their Xbox so perhaps you could get lucky and find the same opportunity
