Great to hear, I want everyone to get on the overall next gen train so that cross gen thing can be gone sooner than later.
Source?
Not sure if serious. PS3 was doing far worse at this point in its career and it still got plenty third party support.
No point in that. XB1 owners buy games and porting is quite cheap. With the PS4 and Xbone gap widening, I'm wondering if it'll be viable for publishers to release exclusives because it'll save them port time and money to a larger audience.
I doubt it'll happen with the high costs of game development but it'll be nice to see.
750k?!?! Thats insane. Is it really that bad?
Microsoft has released its financial statement for Q2 fiscal year 2014, announcing revenue of $24.52 billion for the quarter ended December 31, 2013. The company sold 7.4 million Xbox consoles into the retail channel including 3.9 million Xbox One consoles and 3.5 million Xbox 360 consoles.
If Microsoft is making as many units as Sony is, but only managed to sell 150k units in NA during January, we're left with around 850k units left. We can assume the UK and some other countries picked up some sales but no where near 850k. Especially if Microsoft dumped most of those units into NA.
The only question is where the units are, retailers or storage warehouses.
Yes, I am serious. People keep telling the new gen will be a 2nd PS2 era and I start to believe it although I am a hardcore Xbox fan.
What prompted this press release? It seems so random.
They already shipped 3.9 million in 2013. You don't expect anymore shipments for 3 months?

Thats 5.5 (soon to be 6 million) lost #Titanfall sales then.
Far too many changes & platforms to play games on now for a repeat of PS2 dominance.

MS sold 3 mil. And shipped 3.9 million by the end of Dec.
In Jan, they did 140k in NA and lets be very generous and say they did 140k WW. That's a total of 3.3 million consoles or so, so that would be 600k sitting on shelves. Add to that whatever they shipped in Jan and there might just be a million+ Sitting unsold

More than that. The deal also cut out those 80 million PS3 owners.
Yep, and they're also manufacturing a million+ units a month (per Pachter estimates).
Inventory warehousing costs is eating them alive.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them prematurely rush out their Tier 2/Tier 3 territory releases over the next few months just to start clearing their warehouse overflow.
I don't think SO can (too quirky/niche of a game) but QB definitely has the potential to do so based on how they are setting the game up to be. Again, we'll see though. We aren't even halfway into the first year of the gen.

As of Jan. 23rd
http://www.vg247.com/2014/01/23/microsoft-q2-fy14-firm-reports-revenue-of-24-52-billion/
3.9 million XB1's shipped to retail channels as of Jan. 23rd
3 Million XB1's sold WW to consumer as of Dec. 31st, 2013
141K sold in US as of Jan NPD
So 750K in retail channels minus whatever sold in the rest of the world
Likely at least 600K if not more depending on additional shipments
Good god, when you put it that way
What the fuck were EA thinking?
MS sure shipped more to retailers in 2014, so we're looking at +1m in retail channels.
The 3.9M is shipped up to Dec 31st.As of Jan. 23rd

Not only that, despite the XBO userbase being smaller, the XBox crowd is one that actually buys third party games. This isn't a Nintendo situation where the only stuff that sells is first party. If third parties are making PS4 games, they should make them for XBO too (I udnerstand that the console architecture is similar therefore it's cost effective to develop for both...even though one is a little more powerful than the other?). Unless, of course, they're money-hatted like EA. Even then, I think it's a safer bet to develop for both (except if you're developing a cutesy platformer, in which case don't put it on XBO).You're not going to see that unless MS drops out of the industry and Nintendo is the only "competition." What they will do though is actually think before they take a money hat like EA did with Titanfall.

If Microsoft drops the price of Xbox One to 399, then what ambassador program they will make to calm down the earlier adopters?
If Xbox One is making profits to Microsoft (although it is quite minor comparing to other MS business), then I don't think MS will take an emergency action until Titanfall launches in the market.
The 3.9M is shipped up to Dec 31st.
They better get that sequel out fast on PS4 then.Thats 5.5 (soon to be 6 million) lost #Titanfall sales then.
Very true. That's a lot of lost sales then. Surely MS couldn't have paid EA that much. Seems to be the Peter Moore factor me thinks. He'll be getting fired soon then lol.
That money hat was deep and broad.
Maybe someone more knowledgeable could shed some info on this but how exactly would that work? Does MS just stop producing X1s or they keep piling the boxes?
Do retail stores not care? Do they send stock back?
that's what got me wondering what's up with the cut off day or even the announcement today other then there's the The Order blowout coverage today (the 18th). Unless this is just the end cap of the media blitz of the last week
I'd take that... If the console was also free...It's Microsoft. Don't expect much. It'll be something like free Lococycle for everyone.

I'd say its tracking towards 15 at least

My understanding is that, no, the way console manufacturing works is that ms/Sony/Nintendo contracts a factory to build them consoles. They essentially buy up time on assembly lines to build their console and because it's costly to retool one assembly line building one thing to another, these factories have them rent out the assembly line for the year. There's no easy way to change the amount that these lines produce once they start going since they're contracted to make a certain amount of consoles per month. Ms would have to find places to store them once completed and retailers can first reduce their refill orders if an item is not selling as fast as expected, they can send them back if it gets too bad but that would usually signal they no longer wish to carry the productMaybe someone more knowledgeable could shed some info on this but how exactly would that work? Does MS just stop producing X1s or they keep piling the boxes?

Hardly. The Xbox One WAS doing fantastic sales wise and has yet the launch in several key territories.
