Get the Astro MixAmp or Turtle Beach DSS decoder.
If you're looking for just audio only from the controller, the Turtle Beach XO Four is the closest thing to you have, and it's coming out March 7th. $99 and it comes with the adapter.

As did the SEGA Genesis. Ok, I guess it's not on the controller, but you would have been sitting so damn close to the TV that it wouldn't have mattered.
Just to make sure I'm understanding this - headsets with mics built in that are standard 3.5MM jacks will give both game audio and chat?

Just bumping looking for clarification on the same.
So according to the clarification post by Albert, any headphones that work with sound/mic for your mobile, will work with the headset adapter. So for example my A40's which I currently use for teleconferences when at work (I work from home) and through the optical out with the mix-amp for my Xbox One, will work directly attached to the headset adapter (skipping the need for the mix-amp/optical).
At least that is what it sounds like. Wont know for sure till I plug it in and find out.
So I just looked on Amazon and the 4-Shots are now listed as March 11th for the blue ones, and May 3rd for the other two. WTF?!! lol
Do they do this when there is a supply issue or is this some automatic weirdness and lack of info? If I want the blue ones, should I go ahead and preorder?

This is all so confusing!

With the adapter, it'll be just like with the 360. Optical out to the back of your Mixamp, chat cable from your headset into your chat adapter on the controller. You can control game audio on the Mixamp. Since you will not be getting the game audio through the controller, which can only be stereo, the volume control on the adapter won't do anything. You'll be able to change the chat volume on the adapter and on the balance controller on the Mixamp. Also, you can mute the chat on the adapter.

I'd love to have a list of headsets that aren't Turtle Beaches, Tritons, etc. that can be plugged into the adapter and will have both game audio and chat.
In my experience, Turtle Beaches and Tritons don't have the best sound (though I haven't tried them all), and there have to be other headsets out there that'll give better sound and have chat capabilities.
I assume we need to wait for the adapter to release before we know which headsets will initially work... right? As I understand it, any headset that will work with a phone right now will work with the adapter.

EDIT: After reading the conversation on Twitter, the official release date for the Stereo Headset is 7/3. Apparently those should't have shipped this early. So it means that the March update should arrive early next week.

When we announced the Adapter and Headset on 2/11, we said availability "in early March."

We wanted to get the HW shipped as close to the release of the March update as possible. We'd roughly targeted 3/7 assuming the update would release to consumers within a couple days either way. GameStop shows 3/7 which was our targeted ship date.
Some retailers are shipping them as soon as they get them in stock (Amazon and MS store I understand have shipped).
Which is great you'll have them early, but I was just making people aware they won't work until the update vs. people being upset or thinking they had a broken unit.

Hey Albert, when is the review embargo up for the headsets, when the March update comes out I guess? I'm tempted to pickup the headset but I'm leery of the sound quality for $80 headset.

The answer to this is "it depends". We support the CTIA pin standard. If the headphones you purchased have that pin configuration, they will work. I've heard, however, there are some iOS headphones are OMTP. In that case, they will not.
HOWEVER - there is an adapter can be purchased to make them work. Check ebay or amazon for "CTIA to OMTP"

You only need to update the controller if you're using the Headset adapter. And both the adapter and the Stereo Headset come with a cable (it's MICRO USB)
Yes, the tweak to the sticks came with the last (Feb) update.

I did some research and found that the latest Apple iPhone "Earpods" use the CTIA standard. So they'll support both game and chat audio, and presumably allow you to chat through the microphone as well. That'll save me some money! Although the new Xbox headphones look pretty sweet too.
And if so, how will it work with the headset adaptor? I'm assuming the chatpad would need to have the functionality of the headset adaptor as it would need to be plugged into the same port the headset adaptor will be using.

Got my 2 sets today, very comfortable. Nice and lite fit my big head better then the PS4 Gold headset.
Without the update can't get them to work 100% My brother did stumble upon them working if you leave the charge and go cable attached to the controller when playing. Party chat worked but in game stuff didn't. Also developed a weird feed back loop in PvZ:GW after about an hour.
Can't wait for update, really a downer that its not live when the head sets are already on sale :/

Yeah it's a bummer. But Albert Penello said that they should have not shipped before 3/7.
Are the headsets 40 or 50 mm? Guessing from the pictures I saw, I'd say 40 mm.
After I asked about that I remembered that. And there would be new adapters for the adapter etc.

Yeah if you connect a charge and go cable it seems to power up the headset without the update. Works but have to keep it plugged in (cable it comes with is far to short, so I use my charge and go cable), party chat worked fine but game chat did not function in PvZGW.
About 30mins into a session the sound stated to get real bad, horrible crackling on game audio but party chat remained clear.
Comes with a card sating u have to update controller, my guess that is after the match update because I followed the instructions and the controller did not update.

There is a 'Update controller' option in the System menu in settings that will be available to all in the march update. You would want to hope that the update comes out before everybody picks up these new headsets or this forum will be very entertaining lol.
I have updated all my controllers (i have the beta update). I assume it just adds the adapter support and the respawn analogue stick updates.

Sooo I tried to ask this before but never got an answer. With the adapter, the Sony Wireless Gold Headset would have full functionality correct? Basically any headset with a single mic+headphone jack will work for both game audio and chat right?
