Eurogamer Rumor: Guerrilla Games working on open world RPG, too early for E3 reveal

This sounds more like eurogamer just saying that nothing is confirmed from GG. Not a big fan of KZ but I do like the aesthetics of their games and they're pretty good with the hardware.

He said Titanfall is coming to PS4. The first Titanfall I believe.

Tidux did not say this. What he said was "A build of Titanfall is up and running on #PS4".

All that means is that Respawn has PS4 dev kits and has an internal build running. Maybe in preparation for Titanfall 2 in 2015? But don't read more into the tweet than is there.

As far as GG goes, Gamescom would seem to be the better conference for them. Though, if their next game is targeted for late 2015/early 2016, they are better off revealing it at E3 2015 or Gamescom 2015.

I don't really get Eurogamer's context. Because based on the direct quotes from the devs themselves, they're on 'radio silence', but that doesn't mean it won't be introduced at E3. It could very well just mean GG is not even teasing when we'll get to see it.

Wait why do people expect GG to show a new game so soon after?

Killzone 2/3/SF was 2009/11/13 respectively. GG and ND works on a 2-year dev cycle as far as we're aware of them.

Based on that assumption, it's not too far-fetched to think that GG's new IP will be a 2015 release title. ( given it had 2+ years of work put into it already ) And a new IP traditionally gets introduced earlier than established IPs.

""The best metaphor for making a launch title is it's like driving a race car while the car is still being built around you," Torkan said."

See. Its not just Nintendo.

Guerrilla Games has a second studio/team.
They've never made a game before and are working on the new IP for 2 1/2 years.
So people expect to see atleast a trailer at E3.

We are NOT talking about the "classic" KILLZONE studio/team.

If you compare Shadow Fall to the first games on the PS3, so if this is like the first generation of games which are coming, god knows what they will be like in four or five years," Torkan said.

"Compare the first games that came out on the PS3 to The Last of Us or GTA5. It's amazing. That's the thing. We had two-and-a-half years to figure out what we wanted to do with our engine and one-and-a-half years to figure out what we wanted to do with the hardware. Imagine when comparably technically advanced studios get four or five years under their belts with the hardware.

But people continue to say there won't be a performance increase since the consoles are just basic PC hardware (not taking into the custom design). That the increase in graphics won't be like last generation. What we're getting now is the limit.

Right.

No, Guerilla Games's 2nd studio is in the same office building. As far as two different studios' are concerned, there's only Guerilla Amsterdam and Guerilla Cambridge.

And the director for the new IP is Mathijs de Jonge, the director for Killzone 2/3 and Liberation.

GG's new IP is made by the 'classic' Killzone team in Amsterdam.

I don't. It's only 7 months since Shadow Fall released, and while I'm sure the RPG has been in the works with a small team for a long time (I think it's been 2.5 years they said?), they'll probably only have moved to full production once Shadow Fall was released.

Realistically, that second title has been in the works long enough to come out sometime in Q1/Q2 next year.

Not really, because we don't know how long X amount of years is spent on conceptualisation, prototyping, and tech-building.

Dragon's Dogma, for example, had a 5 year development period. (one year spent on conceptualisation)

I haven't played Shadow Fall yet, but I understand it was progress over the others in terms of depth and level design. I thought Mercenary was great, but like those before it, while the narrative and lore was interesting the storytelling was weak. I think Guerrilla's main flaw is in storytelling and Killzone is probably too tainted a franchise to ever be a huge success, so they're probably better off starting on something entirely different. I think their art is generally pretty great and I'd like to see a Cyberpunk RPG from them/

They nail so much, but then they totally mess up in equal measure. Shadow fall definitely felt like an improvement, but it's still just a mediocre game when it's all said and done. I really can't put my finger on what needs to be fixed, but there needs to be completely fresh new take on the IP from another dev. Mercenaries looks like a lot of fun though.

The fact GG hired John Gonzalez (lead creative designer and lead writer of Fallout New Vegas) suggests strongly this will be an RPG.

To me it still seem unreasonable to except something this early at E3.

Right this is a new gen we should not expect the same cycles.

Mathijs de Jonge is the Game Director, who switched teams after KZ3, if I remember correctly. The team for the new IP is still the "new one", from what I've heard.
And yes, according to their site, they too have recently relocated to the new "state-of-the-art office" near Rembrandt Square.

This early, after 2 1/2 years in development? Not even "trailer" ready?

Damn another ones drops from E3...

From all indications they've been working with a full team, not just "a few guys who weren't doing Shadow Fall".

Sorry if this is not the thread for my post but there's one thing that bothers me with basically almost all this technically proficient developers. They always use the same standard lines like "imagine how games will look in X years" or "if you thought what we achieved with [insert platform here] was amazing, get ready for what's next", etc.

I sometimes wonder... if only they put so much effort on bringing "real" new gaming experiences not only driven by the game graphics, but by innovative gameplay, they
would have the perfect product. Sadly, I don't see this happening in the near future...

I personally loved all of the KZ games, 2 and 3 the most. I also thought shadowfall was awesome. I'm only dissappointed that they changed the feeling of control, they got rid of the weighted feeling of your character that I got used to. Of course the storys werent amazing but its holds up fine to every other sci-fi military shooter. I dont know about this taint you speak of but I'm excited about this RPG idea. I dont think it'll be in the KZ universe but I wouldnt mind if they did. Of course I'd expect much deeper/better writing with a RPG. you must be interested in lore to fully enjoy a RPG.

Hype yourselves up for something based on assumptions and forum hearsay and be disappointed when that something doesn't happen.

How reliable is this person?

And yes. There are other studios but I fear we will see the bare minimum when it comes to big games from the leading studios in favor of PSNow.

somewhat reliable. he was dropping hints about snowdrop engine on gaf last year and they were confirmed recently by the developer (Ps4 is the lead platform)

He's been right about a few things, but he's also been wrong lots of times. He's probably wrong again.

Did Guerrilla themselves say it won't be there? No. Are Eurogamer aware it's been in development for years? Probably no either. The assumption is made based on Shadow Fall being released recently.

There's no quote from them about it in the OP. Eurogamer may have asked them, but there's no way of telling. I wouldn't expect them to give any indication that it'd be there anyway given how it seems like Sony has shut everything down as far as E3 goes. No one is talking about anything.

Guerrilla Games is busy working on a significant four-player co-op expansion to its PlayStation 4 launch title Killzone Shadow Fall
couch co-op?

Edit: nevermind, it's not even a campaign co-op let alone couch.
i miss couch co op so much. Halo was really good at it.

SONY HAZ NOOOO GAMEZ!

I'd hope they'd show the games they were ready to show and not too far out. Tighten your sack.

I really hope we get more than a gameplay trailer from The Order, more Driveclub footage and a bunch of third party games like Destiny and Unity.

Uncharted gameplay, Project Beast gameplay and TLG re-reveal please Sony. Give me reasons to buy your machine. At least one new IP would be nice as well.

If this is true it'd be pretty cool. I'm interested in seeing a non-shooter coming from Guerrilla and they deserve a change of pace already.

For some reason I immediately thought they were making something similar to Borderlands. Hopefully it won't be a FPS.

Sounds like speculation on Eurogamer's part to be honest, and even then there's lots of evidence to prove that the new i.p will be unveiled at E3 (examples include Tidux's hints etc).
