You can't take much seriously from 'first impressions gaf', as explained in recent pages about the initial TLOU previews and PR. Plus if you're not a Gaf darling yet like the Witcher series or Demon Souls series you well get judged much harsher than normal.

It is the first game to achieve that 'CG' look.

The way his coat slaps against his leg and the bounce folds out instantly literally looks impossible to believe.
The Order and Drive Club are best looking games I've ever seen. Killzone and inFamous looked great as well.

Downright giddy to see what graphical powerhouses like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, and Quantic Dream have in the oven.

Oh man its its like Uncharted it'll be amazing, Uncharted 2 was one of the best games of last gen, easily.
Its funny that is the connection your making and trying to make it seem negative given that the Uncharted games are very good.

Looks stunningly graphics wise. I'm still waiting for E3 before comment any further on the gameplay. I hope they get rid of the black bars though.

In the Wolf thread it went from "this looks like a launch X360 game" pre-launch to "amazing" after. So yep, grain O' salt with all the first impression madness.

Awesome game ... will wait for direct feed trailers.

Also I hope they are fixing drop frame & screen tearing to fully enjoy this game.

No wonder plasma is no longer made. People are still scared of IR and burn in.

Sigh. I never worry about either when using my kuro. Never had a problem.

Now we're stuck with shitty LCD's.

There should be no problem playing The Order on a plasma for long hours. Just make sure afterwards you follow it with full screen content.

I still don't like having black bars on a game though.

I have a Kuro also.. one of the 1st ones, so its only 1,366x768 but it rocks amazing picture and no burn in issues, watching widescreen movies is the only way I go.. do think any plasma has had that type of issue for 10 years+ and even then maybe the cheap brand type.

Looks great. It's too early to say how the game is off of so little though. Don't see why folks have to get so up in arms about this either way.

A bummer. Having black bars just for the sake of looking more cinematic is stupid, consider it's a game and not a movie.

Why is it valid for a movie and not for a game, just this should be this and that should be that? Not trying to defend it too much here but I'm wondering what your reasoning behind this is.

I had mixed feelings after watching the Dark Souls 2 walk-throughs as well, but at least I'm not yet tired of the genre it represents. Unless a TPS does something radically different like Lost Planet I'll probably ignore it and move on.

Regarding burn-in, this is good to hear. I will now be on the hunt for a Panasonic VT60.

I've got the VT60, there's no issue with it at all. I just finished playing through all of Tomb Raider and Knack and there's no problem. Well worth the money for the 65".

I just hate having black bars. That's the great thing about watching a Blu Ray and playing a game straight afterwards. With the Blu Ray you have black bars filling up 1/3 of the screen, while games fill up the entire space. It annoyed the hell out of me when I played Dragon's Dogma and the Order is supposed to have even more of the screen filled with black bars.

It's not just for that; if they remove the bars that's more pixels to process for the display, and performance may take a drop. I'm sure if this were a late-gen game it could maintain what's here w/o the bars, but that isn't the case.

I forget if the bars are actually black pixels processed in-game or just the result of the native resolution being what it is. I'm thinking if the game is processing those pixels on its own, that kind of knocks back the idea they're there to save on performance or at least aren't there to ease performance load as much as I think they are.

Doesn't bother me in the slightest; got no problem w/ them being in the game whatsoever.

Drawing the mattes is not in any sense demanding.

However, with the 4xMSAA, they could comfortably do full frame with a less intensive AA and still look incredible.

If you were to tell me this was cg, i would have believed you.

Indeed, art and tech look supperb. Really strong CGI feel. Shame the quality is shitty, but we have this from February. All of this will have new lightning, better metal materials and new uniforms in new code. Hnnng.

It is saving them preformance by not having to render those pixles, but we also know they using 4xMSAA. If you're using that, you have room to change things up. Likewise fromntwitter sound like the game is already running above 30FPS but that's where it'll be capped to provide a consistent experience.

Its a design choice. One that works well with over the shoulder TPS'.

Maybe a little late but here are some of my thoughts:

Graphics: Phenomenal. It looks that good even with extremely compressed and dirty image. Particle effects, lighting, cloth effects, color palette (love those grays). Impressed.

Gameplay: It is a cover-based shooter with magnificent feeling of immersion. Loved the presentation of the chapter at the beginning of the video and liked the guns (awesome light beam). Maybe not very innovative but at this point, nothing really is innovative if you ask me. Specially with shooters.

I still need to see more but overall: 8.9/10

I would rather this be as cinematic as possible as opposed to Hollywood thinking they need to adapt everything into a movie. So yeah, I'm pro Cinematic(as an adjective and not a literal cutscene) for these types of experiences. I love Uncharted for that reason and I think The Order is going to fit in well with the notion and execution.

I can't wait!

Some people will only give games a chance if they have an Xbox logo in the cover...

God damn. So much hyperbole, and from just less than 2 freaking minutes of gameplay. Good job, man.

I bet you didn't even play Uncharted to begin with, character movements seem quite different.

What's this crap about the firing people keep talking about? Gears had automatic guns with terrible aim, which isn't even a bad thing since having super accurate automatic weapons would be boring. The shooting mechanics in The Order look comparable to Gears, just without active reloading.

And what's wrong with having more than one game that plays similar? Nobody trips out about Mario and Donkey Kong platformers on Nintendo consoles, PGR and Forza or Alan Wake and Gears of War on Xbox consoles. Hell, people are asking for a new Perfect Dark even though Xbox already has Halo.

I hope you're not excited for Sunset Overdrive or Crackdown 3, since there's already Dead Rising 3 which is sure to have very similar gameplay to both. Wacky weapons? Mutants/zombies? Some powers and special traversal methods? Open world setting? Each of those 3 games have these things to varying degrees, does that mean the devs should stop making these games? No, each of these are gonna be different enough to be their own games, same with The Order and Uncharted which, aside from guns, look like very different experiences.

Honestly looking at them now, the new footage looks better, compressed or not. The lighting effects on the character and gun are better and bring the focal point on the player character (as it should be), and the saturation levels are toned down to create a more appropriate vibe, not to mention it works better for contrast w/ the explosions.

Level of texture detail for the buildings looks better in the old shots yeah, but I'd take the newer ones easily. It actually has depth and doesn't look flat.

Same. This is probably the best-looking next-gen game I've seen so far, both in a technical and artistic sense. Can't wait 'till crow's eaten by the haters thinking the game's gonna suck.

RAD have been saying since last E3 that there's going to be more then straight shooting. Everyone expected it to be more then a straight shooter. So When they release footage of just shooting akin to an uncharted/last of us game without any clarification of whats to come , people are bound to be a bit disappointed. Everyone expected it to be more then a straight shooter.

Its the marketing that is to blame. I feel I know more about quantum break and how it will play and they have released less gameplay?

I hope we some interesting weapons at e3, can't wait.
I do want to see more weapons,we know of 3 and a grenade.
The Combo Gun

The bread and butter of The Order’s arsenal. The combo gun has two different functions. The rifle component of the gun is good for gunning down foes from a distance. The other barrel delivers a concussive blast that knocks foes back like a Force push. Stunned enemies can then be picked off with rifle fire.
The Arc Gun

This high-voltage weapon is where things start to get more experimental. The arc gun has electric wires and components spread along its long metal rods. Electrical current zaps along this contraption as it warms up, creating a Jacob’s Ladder. This piece of bleeding edge technology shakes and smokes as it charges up a precise, long-distance bolt of energy. The way it zaps towards far off targets reminds us of Cole’s eagle-eyed lightning blast from Infamous.
The Thermite Rifle

The thermite rifle is the flashiest and most devastating of the bunch Ready At Dawn has revealed so far. Pellets packed with strips of aluminum iron oxide are blasted into the environment, which then break open into a cloud of glittery metal paper. A high temperature flare is then shot into the cloud, creating a chemical reaction that turns the cloud into a burning mass of melting metal. This devastating weapon is perfect for punishing enemies hiding behind cover.
Fragmentation Grenades

Everybody knows how grenades work – pull the pin and throw it before it blows up. The Order’s grenades are a little different than average. These thrown explosives resemble the handled “potato masher” grenades usually used by German troops. It also features a small spike that allows it to be stuck into walls or the floor, creating a nasty proximity mine.

I honestly wonder if posters like this are self-aware when they pull the fanboy card.

Legitimate negative impressions are friggin everywhere in the thread, enough with this victim complex bullshit.

I don't know, are you self-aware? Since when is this imaginary similarity in movement between The Order (which has not even been played by the poster), Uncharted and Gears a good basis for a legitimate negative impression?

Plenty of posters said they were not impressed with the sampled gameplay without resorting to bullshit, and I didn't argue with them.

Quote me going to an Xbox exclusive preview or trailer thread just to shit on the game with basis on bullshit, then you can call me a fanboy.

@ALastNac absolutely - one of the things we are trying to do is to have a lot variety in the things you do moment to moment. And thanks! :)

I'm liking those weapons descriptions.

The player in this video wasn't necessarily bad, but was instead shooting around the enemies and then shooting the flare to ignite them up, and them shooting some more so the flame didn't die off so soon.

I hope that each gun feels radically different. But yeah, this is totally Uncharted. Totally.

Since the graphics look so good, the small imperfections are easily noticeable. Things like smoke disappearing too quickly and lack of destruction.

I though the game would have a proper soft body physics system, but I guess it is only applied to the objects within the enivronment

Okay then, thanks for clearing that up man!

I barely know squat about Quantum and I know this isn't an isolated feeling. There's been more coverage on Order than Quantum, which makes sense given Quantum might not be coming this year after all. Only stuff I know on that game is it's half game half tv show and probably takes place in Washington DC, and the time-freeze powers.

Interesting, but that's all we know, literally.

Plus we've seen no in-game footage of Quantum; they've yet to show how the game/tv structure actually works.
