No New Final Fantasy XV Info at E3 2014

I feel safer not expecting this game to show up than expecting it will, so at least this news doesn't really hurt. Been a slow transition from disappointing to funny to embarrassing over the years.

I'm assuming morale for the Versus/XV team isn't all that high at this point...

Even if we have X, Project Beast, and Bayonetta 2 showing that Japan can still make based games?

I don't care for X and Bayonetta, not a big fan of Platinum Games at all or Monolith.

Project Beast still excites me greatly, so I guess that's one...

But Kojima Productions, Square Enix and Team Ico were my favorite Japanese studios... Well until they stopped making video games.

Nothing new at all?

I'm pretty happy I'm no longer hyped for this game. I'll wait until it's actually got a release date to start getting excited.

Square is not the norm in Japan either :)

You say that like its a good thing. Square's management issues are legendary at this point. They've now gone through 13 years and 4 iterations of their flagship franchise going through an extraordinary amount of development hell, and each time, it seems they've learned next to nothing since come the next iteration, they're right back to their old ways. Whether or not they should have cancelled this project is up to debate, but the fact is there needs to be a serious overhaul of SE's management.

I just don't get the idea of lumping Kojima in with Square or Ico, sure he's taken a while to make his newest game, but it's clear to anyone that it's at least coming along.

Unlike Last Guardian, which is still up in the air and FFXV which is aeons away.

If The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy XV, and Kingdom Hearts 3 are all not at E3... I'm giving up on Japan.

Square Enix has been crap for years, even if ARR is really good(gotta give them credit for that).

I believe in Japan because Nintendo, Atlus, Falcom, Gust, and Platinum still gives us quality games every year.

Edit: Just saw your other post, Kojima takes his time but he delivers at least.

This is getting to be the norm for SE, isn't it? Sad to think about.

The last mainline Final Fantasy without development troubles was FF X in 2001 .

The mainline series is
(kind of)
struggling for 13 years .

That we have come to this point is just baffling.

Edit: Rewritten my post, direct sequels are closer to spin-offs imo.

No I don't???!!???
I simply stated a fact without implying that it was a positive or negative thing. Taking too much time to make a game is not a good thing, neither for me who wants to desperately play the game nor for the developer who is sinking ridiculous amounts of money to a mess of a project.

Just for reference, MGS4 came out in 2008.

By the time MGS5 comes out it will have been 7 years. So yeah, they deserve to be thrown in that mix too.

FFXII was in development hell and resurfaced to controversial reception
FFXIII was in development hell and resurfaced to somewhat negative reception
FFXIV was mismanaged in the worst way possible, shitted out to the public, and forced SE to redo the entire game from scratch. A bizarrely transparent and very public "development hell" if you will.
FFXV has obviously been in development hell at least once and is going back underground after a very pointed effort to "re-unveil" the title.

Basically, SE hasn't had "normal" development since FF XII on the PS2. The studio has some serious problems with software development and project management. It's one thing for a studio to have a "duke nukem forever", or a "half life 3", the story of one game that will just refuse to surface. It's another to have a nonending stream of major release after major release that consists of nothing but development headaches, broken promises, ridiculous waiting times, bizarre results, and a pissed off fanbase.

I'm honestly amazed that they're still in business. I guess their iOS games are making so much it's keeping them afloat because their mainline FF series hasn't had regular, sane human being development for well over a decade.

"D"

I'm extremely insecure with how much f2p mobile games are encroaching on Nintendo
How's this sound for a new thread title? Cause aside from FFXV/KH3 being a no show, might as well get it out the way cause I doubt those two are the only things we will be disappointed about.

It's quite disappointing to hear these no-show announcements so close to E3. I was really hoping to see more of this.

Thats disappointing, it doesn't ruin E3 for me, but it does really dampen my hype levels.

I actually was predicting a 2015 release for Final Fantasy XV and a 2016 release for KH3, with this information I assume the release dates for both titles will be a year later

What the hell is going on there at Square? They have really fallen from greatness and it has been a long time since they have been just that. Just don't know what to think anymore when it comes to them.

but he wasn't working on MGS5 during most of that time. Peace Walker was a 2010 game, you know.

Okay, so even if you say they were working on Peace Walker for 2 years. That's a 5 year development time for MGS5. Obviously not counting the wasted time on Rising.

Anyway, this is silly, my point is - my favorite Japanese studios haven't produced anything worthwhile in quite some time.

I'm just disappointed that's all.

1. You're forgetting about Peace Walker
2. He don't announced the MGS 5 in 2008

Since the game become public, we're getting news about him every 3-4 months
The same can't be said about FF XV or Last Guardian

This company has become such a joke it's not even funny anymore.Probably they are being laughed at not only by their fans but by the whole industry as well.

"You are doing it like Square Enix" should be considered as an insult.

Maybe The Last Guardian is gonna be shown and that and this game cant be shown at the same event or it will fuck the universe up if they cross streams.

Just go back to making these f'ing games in 2-D. Christ. Come on Squeenix.

To quote Jesse Cox, "YOU WERE SO GOOD!!!!"
I actually wouldn't mind a revert to 2D FFs(if they were given HD, crisp sprite action and wonderful backgrounds), if it means a new FF every year or so. I know the graphic hounds wouldn't allow it, but is it really worth it to wait THIS long for a game that "looks" good? IMO, if you can make a great game(graphics be damned, there are great 2D and 3D games) with a great story that plays uber well, it doesn't matter if it's the top of the line/cutting edge graphics with every skinflake rendered as realistically as possible.

Though, IMO, whatever can be done to cut down the dev time while retaining some quality(yet not pushing the boundaries for the sake of making everything look as realistic as possible) would suffice. I wouldn't mind something similar to PS3/X360 rendering if it meant less detail minute detail and more focus on expanding the game. Hell, I wouldn't even mind an experimental FF that went the cel-shaded route(like Ni no Kuni), gave us a fully explorable world where towns, while still being fully 3D, have a painted(cartoon/anime background) look to them. Basically, if it allows a game to be made that limits the dev time while not hindering it by making it seem "less" of an experience(higher graphical power means less exploration and more linearity), so fuckin BE IT!! I'd sacrifice the naysayers just for that!!

Reminds me of that theater unveiling of "fake Square" introducing people to Final Fantasy XV, which showed Versus becoming XV, ending with a roar from the theater. That turned out to be staged, but oddly, the concept(Versus becoming XV) was coincidentally true.

If Kitase and Toriyama are involved in this unannounced game and it gets revealed at E3 whilst XV is absent, it will be the final nail in the coffin for GAF.

Even square isn't stupid enough to have lightning returns bomb on two more platforms.

It's like SQ is the japanese 3d realms only they have like 3 Duke Nukem Forevers going at any given time.
Only way I would accept a Lightning Collection is to see all the mental breakdowns that'll occur on the internet...
