It was quite a difference watching the invitational's multi man item punch ups compared to Treehouse's own, beyond the slight bemusement at some items it's like there was a lacking of item based situational awareness in the invitational.
Actually I suppose that last point goes beyond items and into four player matches in general where you need to keep what everyone else is up to in mind and not just the one person in front of you.

Yeah, give them items and they just fall apart. There are actually a lot of cool things you can do with items. I did all sorts of crazy shit in melee, its an extra level if comitment though. I would do shit like grab items like the green shell dash dance into foes. Throw up the green, grab the foe and toss them up into the shell. I'd really enjoy competetuve Smash with a limited assortment of items, but when it comes down to it, the competetive scene is just memorizing frames and practicing the same techs over and over.

It reminds me of those anime antagonist characters that the main characters think are impossible to beat, but they have that ones stupid ass weakness that makes them look like a joke. Like the character loses their shades and freaks out or something lol.

Anyone else find it easier to do tilts on a gc controller than any other controller? Also anyone else here using the may flash adapter on the wii u? It works good for me but everything i start up brawl it flashes a few seconds before I can use the gc controller.

It's in the invitational, let me try to find it.

I completely missed this when I saw the invitational. Good to have Moltres back.

In the new ones? So far we've only seen the two returning Earthbound items, Mr. Saturn and the Franklin Badge.

Yep. That's correct. It'd be silly to think Ness or Lucas won't be coming back. Same goes for Wario and Captain Falcon when we had assist trophies for both series.

ROB isn't on the list, because there's no universe in which he gets cut. (But I'll add him anyway.) :)

I literally had a super in-depth conversation with someone today about how I can't wait to get my R.O.B. Amiibo.
OH MAN! I'd love to have a R.O.B. Amiibo! That's so, like, meta, and full-circle, etc. (Plus, R.O.B. looks cool, and his Amiibo could conceivably hold my cell phone and other items)

I don't even get this, surely bullying would be more potent if you used Miis with friends since you could make a Mii of them and then send it out to die. You really can't do that with strangers.
The concern is probably more along the lines of, "Mom, why are all of the other players targeting my black Mii," or "Mom, why did Jesus just KO me with a shuriken of light?"

I'm too preoccupied with how horrible the face buttons are on other controllers to worry about things like tilts.

Wait, so Ness is from Earthbound and Lucas is from Mother?

I thought both were from the same franchise.
EarthBound is the American name, Mother is the Japanese name. Same franchise.

Ness is Earthbound/Mother 2 (only game in the series to be released in the West), and Lucas is Mother 3.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
One guy was ignoring the bumper. How to use bumper:
1. Pick up bumper.
2. Throw bumper at foe.
3. Laugh at their dismay.

I consider those moves not items. Items are the things you can turn off in the item menu. I'm not even considering advanced item tactics like catching them midair and what not. I'm literally talking about people not even knowing the basics like how to pick one up.

Thats not even special. Pros in Melee and Brawl do that all the time with characters like Peach and ZSS.

The dude in green who was the "best" from the Treehouse was so damn salty and represents just the type of person who hates competitive players. Guy was trying to force his playstyle onto others and clearly brought the atmosphere down.

Info on the Miis is handy (I noticed the Chakram being tossed by a sword-fighter in their reveal trailer) but here's hoping we get news on Palu's defaults sooner rather than later

In regards to people's thoughts on the E3 build, there are several hints that perhaps the newer version had run into trouble that prevented it being usable at the event and so they had to roll back to the last, older version that was more stable. This isn't uncommon at all and would likely explain the odd inconsistency of things like move recovery times and whatnot :3

Going by the leak, I'm glad FE:A, Rhythm Heaven and Xenoblade Chronicles will be getting repped. They're all fantastic titles and more than deserving :3
...it's just a shame that they didn't/couldn't pick better characters from said series to rep them :p

Cross-posting from another thread:

I don't expect it, but I want Sakurai to add the Inklings to Smash Bros. as post-launch character DLC.

We already know from the third Gematsu leak that post-launch character DLC is planned. And we have little reason to doubt the Gematsu leak at this point: All of the newcomers have panned out, including the exact name "Mii Fighters" as seen in the third leak.

If DLC was already Sakurai's plan when the leaker got his intel, then chances are they've already started conceptualizing the DLC and perhaps even working on it (separate from refining and balancing the core roster). The question, then, is what characters they might put together. Cut characters would seem simplest, but there is the possibility of all-original content.

Adding the Inklings would work wonders for Splatoon as a new IP, endearing the Inklings to a huge audience. If timed correctly, to coincide with Splatoon's launch in 2015, it could translate to direct sales of Splatoon, as well.

The Inklings also seem like they'd work exceptionally well as characters in Smash Bros. Granted, the ink splatter probably couldn't linger on the stage that long due to memory restrictions, but temporary splashes would work just as well. Slow down other players, disappear into your paint and reappear elsewhere, rocket-jump for a recovery, melee with the paint-roller, throw ink-grenades and fire off ink-shots, cyclones, etc. The Inkling could be available in both male and female forms, with all of the team colors from Splatoon.

If we don't see them as DLC, I'm sure we'll see them in Smash Bros. 5. As combat-oriented characters made by EAD, they're ready-made for Smash.

I worship your photoshop skills. I also agree with the picture as well (potentially, I can see 11 columns if they decide to cut).

I think if they made the inkling girl playable she'd be instant main material for me. I love the idea of getting an inkling Amiibo too XD

If they were to coordinate the DLC as cross-promotion with Splatoon, the Amiibo could even be designed to work with both games (Smash Bros. and Splatoon).

I just made a long-ass post on the Smash Reddit about "Melee 2.0". Ever since the invitational people can't seem to stop saying it. It's really been getting on my nerves.

Why does that Sanford Kelly on MVC3 video never cease to amuse me? That said, great write up. I will never understand why with this particular franchise it is so hard to have both sides come to a union/agreement on what everyone wants when they can instinctively feel it the moment they play the games and compare them.

Mixing in the rumored characters and vets I think we can expect this in the final build.

Gorgeous but all these mockups with boring ol' Chrom in and without Lucas and Takamaru in the main squad make me sad face like no other. :(

Brawl 2.0 is equally as stupid.

These generalizations should just stop.

I'm just going to start calling it 'Smash bros 4.0'

That said, this game does feel more similar to a past smash bros games than ever before. Melee played vastly different from 64 and brawl played vastly different from melee. When playing this one, it really did feel more similar to brawl than brawl did to melee.

Yep, this is more or less what I expect. I think they might tweak the order to better distribute the newcomers, however. For example, with Animal Crossing and Wii Fit being huge-selling franchises, they might be placed where you currently have Samus and Zero Suit Samus (who'd then be on the second row, with the Zelda series).

EDIT: I don't know why I called Samus "Metroid," lol

Solid post. It's truly crazy to me how overly defensive Smash fans get when people say they want a game similar to Melee despite all the posts detailing exactly what that means. There needs to be more footage on this because people aren't grasping it universally by just reading internet forums.

Items are literally an equalizer and being "good" with items isn't really a thing people should want IMO.
I don't see how being good with items is a detriment to somebody who's also very good without them, though.

I understand that's probably not what you're trying to say, but it's kind of how it reads.

The more I see Chorus Men the more I hope that it was just a misinformed leak.

I'd rather just have Marshal, since he's the mascot of the series and is basically one of the Chorus Men. Rhythm Heaven is one of my favorite Nintendo franchises and I'll be bummed if he's a gimmicky '3 as 1' character. Maybe Glee Club is just his final smash.

Just personal preference though.

Not exactly what I was trying to get across but people have been mixing up what I'm trying to say a lot so it's fine

Sometimes it's hard for me to get everything in my head into writing... It always comes out jumbled, missing parts or simply confusing in its wording

It seems like everyone's given up on Mewtwo. What's up with that? I mean, I wasn't ENTIRELY expecting him, but I thought he had a somewhat decent chance.
