Leak #1 was right before E3 2013. It foretold Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, Mega Man, Pac-Man, Mii and Little Mac.
Half of those happened, and then Rosalina, and then Little Mac.
Leak #2 was right before the April Smash Direct. It reaffirmed Pac-Man and Mii, and added Palutena, Shulk, Chrom, Chorus Men, and Pokémon from X and Y.
Pokémon from X and Y turned out to be Greninja. We've already discussed the reason for the vagueness being that Sakurai finalized a slot for an X/Y Pokémon before Greninja was chosen. Thus, the leaker saw it early.
Leak #3 came right before E3 2014. It reaffirmed Pac-Man and Mii, and included the name Mii Fighters, which turned out to be true. And it once again said that Palutena, Shulk, Chrom and Chorus Men were coming. And that Lucas might be cut.

oh! sonic trophies, my memory is hazy, but there werent really any sonic trophies besides sonic himself and maybe shadow, right?
The Egg Robo from Sonic & Knuckles (or Sonic 3 & Knuckles, since Sega wants to count them as one game). It's used as a decoy to carry out tasks that Eggman himself would normally do, like deal with Knuckles in the game. It can also be found as a killable Badnik in stages, Sky Sanctuary for example. It's an enemy in Smash Run.
Funny, I just posted a Sonic gif.
There's a Metal Sonic trophy in the E3 2014 sizzle reel of the features in the 3DS version.

If he's not announced by now, it's not going to happen.
There's no real reason to wait, all the other third party characters were included with some sort of event (E3. announcement of three-game Sonic exclusivity deal) but there's sort of nothing between now and when Smash officially comes out in Japan.
I also think pictures like this basically say "Yeah, these are the third parties in this game."
I dunno, I think Snake could still happen. And, as others have already noted, keeping him until the last minute provides the perfect opportunity to use his "Kept you waiting, huh?" line, lol.
Also, regarding the image with Mega Man, Pac-Man, and Sonic, you could say the same about this post:

I think Sakurai very clearly made the first match of Pac-Man's reveal a four-player match with Mario, Pac-Man, Sonic, and Mega Man for a reason.

Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, Silver, Blaze, Eggman, Chaos, & I think Cream & Cheese.
I sure hope it's Eggman (ideally in his Green Hill Zone 1 vehicle), and not one of those Deadly Whatevers.

No, it's not just another picture, Sakurai clearly calls them THE TRIO. In fact, this picture caused a lot of people to assume that Sonic & Mega Man were the only third party characters. Exactly like what you're doing.
I think Sakurai very clearly made Sonic's reveal trailer start with Mario, Mega Man & Sonic battling it out for a reason.

It wasn't random, it was the Nintendo Direct right before Sonic Lost World launched. The announcement was clearly a tie-in to Lost World.
The Deadly Six, you mean.
About that, I'm not sure if Windy Hill will have a boss. If it does, it'll either be Eggman or Zazz.

I'd say the end of the Pac-Man trailer confirmed him pretty definitively.
Aw, c'mon, don't be that way. I don't think anyone here is saying it's certain that Snake is safe. Just saying we can see a possible way he's still in, and that the screen in question doesn't necessarily preclude him.
It's not gonna be pretty, will it.

It was random in that most people expected him to be revealed on the day Lost World came out, not weeks before. The point remains that it was just as uneventful as any other veteran. Not even comparable to Mega Man and Pac-Man's reveals.
Nothing anyone is saying convinces me that Snake being cut is a given... NOTHING. When Sonic was revealed, Sakurai was really playing up the "trio" aspect in the same way he's playing up the "four icons" aspect now that Pac-Man is revealed. The only reason people had any hope for Pac-Man was because of Namco's involvement and the leak. Nothing Sakurai has said or done points to Snake being cut.
I wonder if people will lose hype for the WiiU version after playing the 3DS version first. You know, kind of get Smash out of their system, so to speak. All the mystique is gone once the roster is known.
I dobut there will be too much disappointment...hopefully. Everyone I wan't is in so I'm satisfied.
He might be hidden and Sakurai might not want to reveal him. That appearance could've just been a "hey guise dont wurry im hur!"
When it comes to vets, Mr. G&W is to me what Snake is to you.
It feels like a terrible tease being shown him and then not seeing him on the website.

I actually played Lucas so I'll be bummed if he doesn't make it.
I have to admit that the enemy lineup in Smash Run is great. So many enemies.
